EXPERIENCE NEW HAVEN DIFFERENTLY IN FAIR HAVEN.

This is a quiet location in a busy town along the Q River. But New Haven is a city: people live here, work here, and do interact with each other. Here, we just choose to celebrate our diversity. I host because I love New Haven and I want people to experience something that hotels and tourism offices downtown won't share with you! I greet my guests in person to establish trust and explain what's special about the house. This is not a hotel.

This cottage is not suitable for small children or people with mobility issues. The stairs are steeps. Review all pictures.

Built in 1900, this house is a piece of New Haven Quinnipiac river waterfront history. The New Haven oyster industry was a major enterprise in the last quarter of the nineteenth century and in the early years of the twentieth century.

Single family house, fully equipped, with sheets, covers, towels, cookware, bathroom essentials, home-made French soaps. There are two bedrooms, kitchen, LR, private backyard, and parking for 2 cars. Enter through the second floor with an open floor plan from living-room to kitchen that flows through French doors to private stone patio; full bathroom with shower is also on the second floor. The main bedroom and a half bath are located on the third floor/loft (queen-size bed). The second bedroom is located on the first floor of the cottage (full-size bed). River views from living room and bedroom loft. Check out the pictures, steps are steep! The cottage is not recommended for young children and people with mobility issues.

Coffee and tea on the house, you can cook your own meals, or get a take out. Oven and dishwasher. The space is warmly decorated, has fresh linens and towels. Washer and dryer on site. Central AC, gas heat. WIFI. No TV.

Watch the Oyster boats putter just yards from your front door. Walking distance to the Boat House Cafe breakfast place on the river. MAY- OCT SPECIAL: Access to our Boat at the Marina for a romantic morning or evening on the river***

Sit in the backyard and watch the birds in the tall trees. Walk down the street to look at historic houses, and watch the boats at the marina, rent a canoe or kayak to experience our beautiful river, check out the antique store across the street open on weekends, get a bottle of wine at classy Grand Vin across the historic Grand Avenue bridge.

Relax in the cozy living room, lots of books available to you. There is a desk if you need to work. Iron table and iron available if you need to get ready for an interview or business meeting.

New Haven has lots of restaurant to choose from, especially downtown. But diversity is also offered in our Fair Haven neighborhood. Along the busy and eclectic Grand avenue, you'd find bakeries, and small eateries, with delicious sandwiches, pastries, and hot meals, of Italian and Latin flavors. We'll share our favorite addresses with you.

Ask questions, and we'll try to answer them. I just want you to enjoy your stay, whatever the reasons you have to come to town.

I will be your host and will get you oriented upon arrival, providing a peace of mind. We live a few houses down the street. Check out the profile and review pages for more information about my management style.

Stay in your own space, cook your own meals, enjoy your privacy in the entire house. Relax in the peaceful backyard with beautiful trees. There are 2 bedrooms, an office space, river views. All furnished. Sorry no TV, by design. Parking for 2 cars.

I greet my guests with a smile at their arrival and welcome them to the neighborhood and New Haven at large! I share information as needed, and answer questions. I give them privacy and hey enjoy a safe stay and treat the house as if it were their own. They leave the place the way they found it, neat, and well organized.

The Quinnipiac river historic neighborhood is one of the most overlooked neighborhoods of New Haven. Diversity of people and birds. City life with proximity to shops on Grand Avenue, and beautiful natural open spaces.
Our bridge is an "asymetrical steel swing bridge". This side of town next to the Q river, also called Fair Haven, is beautiful, rich in history, cultures, arts, family-friendly, community-oriented, and safe. Parks, restaurants, shops, schools. People live here, work here, and do interact with each other.

On D-bus - 2 miles or 10/15 minutes from downtown
Or use Uber - you'll be downtown in 5-10 minutes.

This is an old house. Stairs to bedrooms are very steep. The cottage is not recommended for young children and people with mobility issues. Sorry, no pets.

At the end of the stay, guests will dispose of their trash and recycling into city bins that are collected weekly; they will undo the bed and fold the sheets at the bottom of the beds; they shall wash all dishes, tidy up the entire space. Thermostat will be set conservatively. All doors will be locked.

Nathalie was a wonderful host. We had everything we needed. We were in town for Yale graduation. It was about a 10 minute ride into the city. Nathalie was nearby to help us with anything we needed.

Nathalie's house is very clean and adorable! The photos are spot on. She's very quick to reply which made check-in quick and convenient. She gave us a tour and walked us through the house and made sure we were settled in. The house is not far from downtown new haven, a short uber ride, less than $10. I'd recommend this Airbnb to anyone looking to stay in new haven!

Nathalie was great! Met us at the cottage and gave us great recommendation of where to eat and see in New Haven. The little cottage we stayed in was so quaint, clean and had everything we needed. Short ride into town. Would definitely come back and stay here again!

This was such a great place to stay in the town of New Haven. Convenient to everything downtown in a quiet neighborhood. The house is a beautiful historic home right by the water. Nathalie was an excellent host and answered any questions we had. Would recommend staying here and would love to visit again. Had dinner at Olives & Oil downtown, it was fantastic!

Very neat place for two adults. Upstairs bedroom is wonderful and views of the river are very nice. Place is sunny although a little too cluttered. Lower basement bedroom is clausterphobic and the stairs are pretty scary and it smells damp. There is some loud road noise from the basement bedroom but street is pretty quiet. The towels and sheets were very nice. It was a very nice touch that owner supplied maps and information on the history of the area. The owner was a little too intrusive for our family .

Réponse de Nathalie :
A review such as this one gives me the opportunity to clarify once for all a few things about my management style, which is in accordance with Airbnb philosophy requiring trust, and open mindedness on both sides. My description of the property was written very thoroughly. I even edit it every time I feel clarification is needed based on my guests’ feedback. I emphasize the uniqueness of this historic cottage, built in 1900 as a oysterman's house, its exact location relative to the Quinnipiac river, the Long island sound, and downtown New Haven. I talk about the diversity of birds and people, I say how lively it can be. 94 pictures were uploaded as documentation. I spell out very clearly that the cottage is NOT recommended for guests with any mobility or balance issues or young children, or anyone with any sorts of phobia. I can't comment on the way it's decorated, as it's really a matter of style and taste. I decorated it with my designer to fit the style of the house, with antiques. I make natural French soap and even add fresh flowers. It has a clear personality. I also clearly stipulate it's not a 5* hotel but is a happy place, designed to encourage exchanges and fun experiences. I added a second bedroom on the first floor - English cottage Style, so families can come and stay together. I use Tung oil to naturally finish and nourish my wood pieces and its nutty smell was in this case mistakenly interpreted as moisture! Airbnb is based on exchanges and trust. After more than 150 visitors in several of my properties, my own house, the oysterman's cottage, our boat, and in my neighbor's property where I am an Airbnb co-host, I have a lot of experience reading people and meeting them where they are. So when a guest refuses to meet me - does not respond to my messages - changes plans at the last minute without warning - does not confirm the extra guests with me - sends the elderly parents to meet me to get the key, and they arrive 3 hours after the ETA I was originally given exhausted after a long flight, with no apologies, and an oblivious look, affecting my work schedule while I had moved my appointments with hospice patients around to arrange for an early check-in - when I find dirt all over the entryway, dirty coffee cups back into the closet, dirty coffee machine, the recycling items dumped into the regular trash bin, and the regular trash bags into the recycling bin, the fridge full of half empty bottles for me to clean up, the beds either undone, or covers thrown all over the floor something I have seen angry teenagers would do, excessive suspicious dead skin flakes all over the living room and sofa…and I could go on - I would like to respond this is more a violation of my privacy, boundaries, and house rules! If anyone has to be unhappy about such encounter, it should be me. Did I write a bad public review for this group asking them to deal with their own anxieties and angers? no, I don't do that! It's not my monkey, until they disrespect me. People who refuse to follow the rules and then criticize in the back are not people I would want to have further interactions with and would not be welcome in my house again. My house is a heaven by design and I am warm and fuzzy, and sincere, but I have boundaries. Unhappy people WHO REFUSE to read the property description, review the 94 photos, understand the owner's boundaries or follow the house rules, but find the time to write disrespectful reviews do have problems of their own and should have the decency not to through them at the face of reputable landlords.

I am Nathalie. I am French-American, originally from Languedoc, France. I moved to this country 20ish years ago for my work in biomedical research. My husband, Don, is a designer and a Renaissance man. Together we are like bees, always busy building things bigger than ourselves.

We enjoy our family, friends, and each other's company, good conversation and pretty things, like guitars, trombones, dragonflies, birds, rivers and and trees. We like Jazz, books, listening to the birds, watching the sun rise and making a difference in our community.

Neither of us like rude people but we will go out of our way for people we love and genuine people we don't really know.

We host on Airbnb because we wish to share our love for the city of New Haven and for its Quinnipiac River history and waterfront.
