PUBLIC AND PRIVATE TRANSPORT CONNECTIONS
• GUIDELINES AT YOUR ARRIVAL
• Arrivals by PLANE on Schiphol Airport and by INTERNATIONAL TRAIN on Amsterdam Central Station.
•• From Schiphol Airport the best/least expensive and most efficient transport is the train to Amsterdam Central Station. Trains depart from Schiphol Airport at least every 15 minutes. This takes about 20 minutes to the Amsterdam Central Station. The train station at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is located directly below the airport. Tickets (one-way € 3,70) are for sale at the NS service desk or ticket machines.
•• From Amsterdam Central Station you take Tramlines 1,2,5. Ask the conductor for STOP PRINSENGRACHT/LEIDSESTRAAT. From there you'll have a 0,5 minute walk to the apartment.
•• Traveltime of train+tram from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to the apartment, waiting time included, 1,25 hour.
•• Traveltime specifications:
••• from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Central Station 1,0 hour
••• from Amsterdam Central Station to the apartment 0,25 hour
•• Taxis from Schiphol Airport to the apartment are to find at the Exit and will cost about € 45,00 - € 50,00.
•• Taxis from Amsterdam Central Train Station to the apartment are to find at the Exit and cost about € 10,00.
•• Traveltime taxis from Schiphol Airport to the apartment 20 - 30 min, depending on traffic.
•• Traveltime taxis from Amsterdam Central Train Station to the apartment 10-20 min.
• Arrivals by CAR
•• Parking your car during the days of your stay, guests are advised to park their car on the long stay P+R facilities of the Municipality of Amsterdam. These P+R facilities are located on the outskirts of Amsterdam near the ring A-10. The goal is that you park your car outside the City Center against an attractive low rate of € 8,- per 24 hours – so called OV card (in some garages even 2 bikes for 4 days), to get to the city centre, and to return to the parking where you left your car (special OV cards for up to 5 people per one car parked). These are specially made OV cards not suitable for your communications throughout the city, but made only for your transfer to and from the city centre. These cards are valid for 4 days.
You will therefore need another OV card to use the public transport during your stay in Amsterdam. As they are heavily subsidized, you must return your used public transport tickets to the P+R parking service at your departure, when paying your parking fees for the whole stay.
•• With an additional payment you may purchase 48 and 72 hours public transport tickets. You may park your car at the P+R sit up to the maximum of four days. You should inform the parking service about it, so you will be receiving public transport tickets for all these days.
•• P+R car parks are, open 7 days a week, 24 hours. They are all supervised but you are strongly advised to take off anything of value in your car because break-in's are possible in Amsterdam.
•• My recommendation to you as guest at this apartment will be to park on only two of all these places regarding the tramline connections to the apartment:
••• P+R Olympisch Stadion (Olympic Stadium), Olympisch Stadion 44, 1076 DE Amsterdam; capacity: 250; located at the ring A10, exit S108; communication with the centre of Amsterdam: tram 16, 24 ; this parking lot has also free bicycles to lend (up to two bikes per car – your ID will be required).
••• P+R Zeeburg I and II, Zuiderzeeweg 46 1095 KJ Amsterdam; at Piet Heintunnel, capacity: 250, from A10 exit S114, communication with the centre of Amsterdam: tram: 26.
••• In both cases you'll better ask the attendant on the tram how to reach the STOP PRINSENGRACHT/LEIDSESTRAAT. In both cases you'll have to change on the STOP CENTRAL STATION once to TRAMLINES 1,2,5.
• GUIDELINES DURING YOUR STAY IN AMSTERDAM
•• Public Transport.
••• You may travel in the City starting from the same Public Transport STOP PRINSENGRACHT/LEIDSESTRAAT on the lines 1,2,5 (North-South directions) and ON THE LEIDSEPLEIN 7, 10 (East-West directions).
Important Conference and Convention Centres are The RAI Convention Centre, The Okura Hotel, The Krasnapolsky Hotel. To all these places you can travel from the apartment within 15 minutes and very easily with Public Transport
••• The most convenient transport ticket is a GVB (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) OV chip card. These tickets entitle holders to transport on all GVB lines, including the night buses. Available at GVB Tickets & Info and tourist offices. Drivers and conductors also sell 1-hour (€ 2,60) and 24-hours (€ 7,50) disposable OV chip cards on trams and buses.
For walking around in the city read footnote "Useful/Don't forget" under CityCard.
•• Private transport.
••• Biking is very useful and healthy in the city of Amsterdam. This is a country of bicycles. About a half million (550,000) bicycles are operational in Amsterdam and there is a network of 400 km independent cycle paths.
Biking is a popular alternative for long distance walkings and bringing home big purchases from the supermarket.
Explore Amsterdam the way locals do and discover small alleys and amusing places that otherwise might have been left unnoticed.
We can inform you on request about Bike rentshops in the centre of the city.
••• Car2go - The E-SMART Electric Cars (Mercedes Benz Company) - are fully operational in the City. The availability of 300 cars is 24/7. If you are already subscriber/member of Car2go in Vancouver (Can), Austin( USA), Portland, San Diego, Washington DC, Birmingham (UK), Lyon (Fr), Berlin (DE), Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Ulm, Vienna (AUS) and owner of a membership Car2go-card you can use the system in Amsterdam. A new one-off registration is 10 euro. A rough estimate: the price of the E-Smart is lower than the expensive Amsterdam taxi-tariffs and higher than the cheap ticket price of Public Transport. (URL HIDDEN)
••• The Canal Bus gives you Hop on and Hop off opportunities. So you create your own sightseeing tour. The red line and the blue line have their stops near the apartment. Both lines have their terminal on the Amsterdam Central Station.
••• A TAXI STOP is on the nearby LEIDSEPLEIN just a 3 min walk.
••• Parking your private car in the city center area is expensive, €4-€5/per hour/from (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) days a week. Using your car in the city is inefficient. Guests arriving by car for a stay in the city are advised to park the car at the P+R sites at the city limits (€ 8 / 24 hours, incl. max. 5 public transport tickets) and to use public transport. (See arrivals by CAR)
