À propos de ce logement
For an authentic Parisian experience in a delightful neighborhood on the Left Bank off the usual tourist route but within easy reach via excellent public transportation of all that Paris has to offer, welcome to l'Impasse du Rouet.
Formerly an artist's atelier with an enormous window on the north wall, this is our cherished pied-a-terre which we are pleased to share with guests on a long or short term basis. We are located in a private courtyard at the end of a cobblestone street just off Place Basch, the bustling heart of the XIV arrondisement (once described by the NYTimes as the best kept secret in Paris). Excellent public transportation (the #4 metro line two minutes away, the bus lines directly across the street plus a velib station at the end of the Impasse) puts us within easy reach of even the more remote corners of the city. The neighborhood itself abounds in excellent restaurants, in convenient shopping from large supermarkets to specialty shops, in small tucked-away gardens or the magnificence of Parc Montsouris, beloved of joggers and great for a picnic on the grass. Even the Luxembourg Garden is a 15 minute walk or 8 minute bus ride away.
Entry to the courtyard is protected by a digicode and gardien; we are on the second floor but, with double volume ceilings, this is the equivalent of a fourth (with elevator). The exposure is north/south with light as a constant from the north window and from two windows on the second level facing south. On the loft's first level: a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area that seats six people easily, comfortable couches, an entry with ample closets. On the second level: the studio area with a
single bed, desk and chairs; adjoining is the bedroom with double bed, ample closets, and the bathroom with basin, WC and large shower. Here too, ample closets!
All linens, towels, etc. are supplied; the kitchen is completely equipped with microwave and fan ovens, washer/dryer, refrigerator, halogen cooktop and all cooking equipment. Air conditioning in the form of a reversible ceiling fan recently installed.
A TV set, a printer/scanner are provided as is a free ADSL connection and WiFi, free telephone calls to land lines in the United States and Europe; all utilities included; maid service of 4 hours twice monthly included in stays of 4 weeks or over.
Minimum rental period: one week

Whenever possible we make use of our second apartment, immediately adjacent to this, and consequently are on the premises for any need our guests might have. In our absence, we furnish complete lists of whom or what to call in case of need.
There is an ample supply of guide books, restaurant guides, etc.and I'm happy to provide suggestions about local favorites.
This is a no-smoking apartment and small children are not encouraged due to the possible danger presented by the inside staircase.

First of all, an explanation: Vittorio, my husband, and I - he a native of Florence, I a California-raised specimen - divide our time between our home in Florence and a pied-a-terre in Paris.
Many decades ago we built our home in the midst of an olive grove overlooking Florence . Here we raised two children and it now serves also as a sometimes base for five grandchildren. The pool and/or lunch under the trees serve as a magnet for them and their friends!
Last year - 2013 - we closed in an unused loggia in our garden, turning it into a mini-apartment, complete with its own small but welcoming bit of garden. There - eventually - we might be tempted to move in ourselves but for the present we are pleased to offer it to guests - preferably long term - who want to enjoy the luxury of open country but within a few minutes of the center of Florence.
As for Paris, we continue to make use of it ourselves when we both feel the need of a Paris "fix". We lived there for several years in our younger days and try to make it back every year for at least a few weeks.
