History
The first mention dates from 993, when it is listed among the grounds of the Brevnov monastery. During Premysl Otakar I. reign the monastery was replaced the Preferred Teutonic Knights, later this territory paases to the assets of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star. Under Charles IV. large vineyard with outbuildings was here. Grapevine has been relatively successful untill they were severaly destroyed and looted by foreign troops. Another unfortunate events have affected Karlin at the time of the Hussite spree. The area was hit by numerous natural disasters, particularly floods. The first huge hit back in 1432 and had such a devastating impact that it broke the five pillars of the Charles Bridge and the current Old Town Square was under water. In the eighteenth century history repeated itself and then unfortunately once again in modern history in 2002. Karlin had had in the past the unique privilege to be called the Prague´s suburb. Maybe it was the fact that here since the Middle Ages led an important merchant route (today´s Sokolovská Street, passing the Invalidovna building)). The local area was formerly known Špitálská field. The title refers to the church Paul's hospital founded in 1504. Over time the Church and hospitals were demolished, but the marking period have survived until 1817, when Emperor Franz I. confirmed the establishment of the first Prague´s suburb. In connection with this event also a new local name was created - Karolinenthal (Caroline´s valley), which is about forty years later developed into a simplified Karlin. The original German name is derived from the name of the emperor's wife, Caroline Augusta.

You can get from tha Karlin shore to Stvanice Island also by a ferry (P7), it´s destination is Holesovice shore (with the marketplace Holesovicka trznice) .

Lot of cafes, restaurants and bars in Karin, You can easily get to other districts such as Zizkov (Prague 3), Stare mesto (Prague 1) or Holesovice (Prague 7). Every week food market at the Karlin square, 3 min. by walk from the apartment. If needed I will provide you with additional advices and information about sightseeing, as well as with interesting places to visit in Prague.

History of the Krizikova Street
The street connects Florenc and Hybesova St. Length is approximately 1550 m. Street was founded in 1884 by the merger of two separate roads. The eastern part of Karlín Square to the east, which was called By Invalidovna Street, and western part of Karlín Square to the west, which was called the Middle Way and since 1841 Křížovnická. The entire stretch was originally named after Palacky and then Sudeten street. The current name is after Czech inventor Frantisek Krizik since 1948.
