Description

This is one of two private rooms on the second floor of my home. I live
in the conveniently located flatland Westbrae neighborhood in North Berkeley. We are a short walk to 2 bus lines & BART, several wonderful markets and many restaurants.

When my mother used to visit, this was her room--we still call it "Grandma's Room." Please note that it now has a proper full-size bed, dresser, and chair. It is light and airy. It shares a bathroom with the second room on the upstairs floor.
We have internet access, I serve a nutritious buffet breakfast to help you start your day, and there's always coffee, tea, and fresh lemonade available. In addition, outside the kitchen there is a deck with table and chairs where you can sit and enjoy the flower garden, eat a meal, or read at your leisure.

I enjoy sharing my home which is bright and cheerful, music and flower-filled. My kitchen is inviting and well-equipped--and there's usually a pot of tea on the table. Guests are welcome to store and prepare food as long as they clean up after themselves.

I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my home which is bright and cheerful--music and flower-filled. My kitchen is inviting and well-equipped--and there's usually a pot of tea on a counter
or table. Guests are welcome to store and prepare food as long as they
clean up after themselves. Outside the kitchen is a deck overlooking the
garden, a quiet place to enjoy a relaxing meal, read some interesting material, or simply rest from your travels.
I have lived in Berkeley for many years and hosted many people--family, friends, visiting scholars, and visiting musicians--a number of
whom make return visits. I am very familiar with the Bay Area and prepared to offer information about a host of subjects including transportation, activities, and attractions. And if you are coming to a function on the UC campus, having taught at UC/Berkeley, I can also help you navigate your way around campus.

Westbrae is a quiet, residential area full of friendly neighbors, tree-lined streets, and modest homes in the flatland area of North Berkeley, quite close to the BART station. A natural food grocery store is just around the corner and we are within a few blocks of a very popular produce market, a robust neighborhood commercial area, two parks, and a swimming pool. Within a 15 minute walk, you will also find two large super-markets, many restaurants, a movie theatre, and a variety of business services.

This neighborhood is quite walkable and well served by public transportation--there are two bus lines close by and the North Berkeley BART station is a pleasant 12-minute walk. There is always available on-street parking in this neighborhood.

I share my home with two friendly, well-behaved sheep dogs, Bearded Collies, who love having people in the house. They have been trained not to enter guests' rooms. In addition, the house is always protected by a fire alarm system and the security aspect of the system can be engaged when desired.

If you book with me, we can discuss your approximate time of
arrival so that I can be home to welcome you.

Règlement intérieur

I live in a non-smoking home. I ask you:
--to please notify me immediately about any problem you find in the room
or bathroom
-- not to smoke any substances
--not to leave open food in your rooms
--not to leave wet towels and other items on the wooden floor and
furniture
--not to play loud music
--to clean up after yourselves
--to notify me about any missing or broken items
--to not book with me if you are bringing a dog other than a Seeing Eye
dog, a Dog for the Deaf, or a Search & Rescue dog
In general, I expect you to respect me and my home just as you would expect the same were I a guest in your home.

Veronika was a friendly, warm, and communicative host. She was very flexible with our late arrival (12:30am) and generally unpredictable hours. We enjoyed many interesting conversations with Veronika over the lovely breakfasts she prepared. Her dogs are friendly and extremely well trained! Our room was neat, cozy and extremely clean, as was the bathroom. Overall we had a great stay and recommend Veronika most highly.

I stayed at Veronika's for two full weeks. She is an excellent host and would be an awesome resource to learn about the best spots to go in Berkeley if you're new to the area. Also, the kitchen is very well stocked and cooking here is a pleasure. Do not ignore the lemon/limeade, trust me -- it's delicious. Parking was no problem, pretty easy to find a spot on the street, and you don't need a permit. Also, it's a really nice neighborhood for taking a walk and checking out the cool north berkeley area.

Great place for my visiting in-laws to stay -- clean, convenient, peaceful. Veronika even gave them a ride to BART the morning they left to the airport. Will gladly book with Veronika again for future visitors.

Veronika is a very welcoming host and really interesting to talk with. The location made commuting to San Francisco easy. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the continental breakfast. We had a great stay and would recommend this B&B.

I am a university lecturer and horticultural educator who often works with international students wanting to improve their language skills. If you happen to be visiting from abroad, you will feel completely at home here. I enjoy sharing my home with family, friends, and guests. In fact, I have developed some treasured friendships with people whom I met as guests in my home. And if you are looking for interesting places to visit, I will be able to help with suggestions. My passions?? I am happy getting my hands in the dirt in the garden, love every moment I spend performing and listening to classical music, relish a few free hours with a good book, and enjoy traveling but find navigating through airports completely exhausting. On the doorway leading to my kitchen there is a decorative plaque I purchased many years ago which guides my days--Live well, Laugh often, Love much. I look forward to meeting you and helping make your stay in the Bay Area an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
