Le logement

Set in the heart of this attractive Cotswolds' market town, Toll Keepers Cottage is a beautifully presented cottage set in the heart of Moreton in Marsh. Spaciously arranged across three flooors, this historic and characterful cottage is an ideal base for exploring this and other popular Cotswolds towns/villages.
According to local history this cottage was reserved for the town's 'Toll Collector' hundreds of years ago when the town was the centre for the region's wool and farming trade. In fact we are told the cottage contains the oldest window in Moreton!! Although much has changed, the wonky floors, flagstone floors downstairs and inglenook fireplace all give this home a very special charm. There are three bedrooms spread across the three floors (via steepish stairs). This cottage is suitable for families, friends or couples as it combines a central location with easy access to the shops and pubs in Moreton - all just minutes away.
Delightful, convenient and welcoming this historic cottage is spot on!

Le quartier

Moreton-in-Marsh is an attractive market town situated in the northern Cotswolds at the head of the Evenlode valley, on the Fosse Way, and mid way between Chipping Norton and Stow on the Wold. Hundreds of years ago, it was once a major stopping point on a Roman road which travelled from the south coast all the way to Lincoln. Much of the towns architecture is still evident and displays history and classic signs of the region's 'style'. As you would expect the town has a long history including being a stopping location for the old coaching route from London to Worcester, hence several coaching inns that still exist today. Additionally, there is The Four Shires Stone is about two miles out of the town - the meeting place of four counties: Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire.

Today the town has a great selection of shops including teashops, restaurants, antiques and art galleries. There are many delightful Cotswolds villages within a short drive with more of the well known hotspots such as Bourton on the Water, Burford and Stow on the Wold very close by. Warwick and Warwick Castle plus Stratford upon Avon are nearby also.

Add to this the fact that there is a train station in Moreton (just 5 mins walk away also) with direct access to Oxford and London, a great location for sure!!

You have good transport links to other villages/towns via bus and train links.

A lovely old cottage. Just as described although even nicer than it looks in photos. Cosy, on one of the coldest weekends in the year. Really close to shops, pubs, cafes, walks, public transport but also quiet. We parked the car and didn't get back in it for 3 days. Particular favourites were wafel waffle, Victoria cafe, White Hart restaurant, Redesdale Arms. Dog friendly cottage and town. Just watch your head on the low door frames, and yes there are steep steps up to level 3, but you'd expect that in a cottage of this age.

We had a wonderful stay! The cottage is lovely and well-located, close to shops and restaurants. It was immaculately cleaned and I've not seen a better-equipped kitchen in any Airbnb. Be careful of the ceilings and doorways in the cottage as they are quite low. My husband and son continually bumped their heads. If you are accustomed to an overhead shower the 3rd floor bathroom is not for you. The 2nd floor bath has one. Also, the towels are very rough and the sheets somewhat thin. If you can bring your own pillow, do. There is a Tesco Express (small grocery store) and a Co-op right across High Street for your needs. There are some great coffee shops, also across High Street. We highly recommend Victoria's and Martha's! The best meal we had was at the White Hart Hotel. The Black Bear Pub also has very good pub food and a great beer selection. We absolutely fell in love with Moreton-in-Marsh and the Cotswolds and we will definitely be back. Thanks, Chris!

This Toll Cottage was a superb place to stay. Very warm, cosy and private. Everything is within walking distance. A car or bus ride through the Vale of Evesham, The beautiful Bourton on the Water and the individual shops of both Moreton in Marsh and Stow on the Wold.

This is the perfect location for a trip to the Cotswolds. It's a very easy 5 minute walk from the train station. Buses to other towns are also just a short walk away. The house was adorable and very well equipped with a great kitchen and a bathroom on each of the 3 floors. The host was great to deal with as was the housekeeper who very kindly let us drop off our luggage early.

I work for Manor Cottages! We are a boutique cottage agency specialising in holiday properties in the Cotswolds and Bath region, an area about 1 -2 hours to the west of London (depending on where you are travelling to of course). We visit and and check all of our cottages and in many cases actually manage them too. Either way, you can be certain of the standard and style and description of the property being of a high standard and if it is more basic then we'll make sure you know this.
We're friendly, we're approachable and (of course) we're based in the area so we know it like the back of our hands. What we're not, however, is a large multi-national company stuck in a call centre with thousands of cottages - you will be pleased to know.
Finally you'll be pleased to know that any property we advertise really exists! Not that we're pointing fingers at anyone out there, but we do get to hear of some horror stories of cottages not existing when a customer arrives..... imagine that.
Anyway, we are here to help you and help you get the cottage holiday you want and are looking for.
