It was a true pleasure to stay here. I love nature and seclusion -- and this spot was perfect. The house is elegant and very tastefully decorated. Sleeping in the silence of the jungle was superb... though as other reviewers have said, a four wheel drive is needed... but that simply adds to the charm of the location. The owners Paula and Marty were most helpful and not intrusive in any way. They got a snafu on the internet worked out and gave some lovely recommendations on beaches and restaurants. If you want a comfortable home, superb nature, wonderful views and welcoming hosts, this is the place.

Casa Antigua is an amazingly magical piece of jungle paradise! The property and the views it offers are simply breathtaking. The casa itself is beautifully and solidly built with the most tasteful décor and furnishings, but the experience of private living in the jungle with only the sounds of pure nature is what it's all about - a glamping version of the authentic Tico life. For a week it was our romantic yoga sanctuary (mats included!) and the highlight of our 3 weeks tour through Costa Rica. Everything in this place has been thought of and is intuitively laid out. When you need something it's exactly where you need it to be. It was spotlessly clean, the kitchen knives were actually sharp, and the complimentary toothpaste was appreciated. The patio and outdoor living space showcase some beautiful stonework and swaying in the hammock with the breeze and the outdoor fan to cool you was heaven. The bed was extremely comfortable with soft, high quality sheets. Paula and Marty were wonderful hosts. Even before we got there Paula went out of her way to help us find the easiest way around CR with tips and helpful advice. Uvita is a short drive down the mountain and is a friendly small town (a strip of stores and groceries along the highway really) with great beaches, waterfalls, restaurants and everything you could need nearby. I was so happy we ventured further south than most. I recommend, as Paula had suggested, a 4x4. It's really is a must to get around this beautiful area. Though, it would have been a wonderful week just staying on the grounds spotting the wildlife, and resting if that's your goal. Casa Antigua was the highlight of our trip and I recommend it to anyone heading to Costa Rica

The villa was well appointed with the essentials and the grounds were just breathtaking. A great place to get away and unwind while being tucked away in the rainforest. We loved enjoying an early morning cup of coffee while bird watching out on the patio. A great way to experience the Costa Rican wildlife! We were able to see toucans, parrots and various other birds while listening to howler monkeys. It was hot but Paula and Marty had fans in the villa, which helped a lot. Paula and Marty are just wonderful! They greeted us when we arrived and were on hand anytime we needed anything; however they respected our privacy as well. You definitely need a 4x4 to get to the villa, but with only the main road in Uvita being paved, I would recommend a 4x4 anyway to get around town. Enjoy & Pura Vida!

This place is unique, a combination of an old Tico cabin and a new addition that looks like if it was taken out of a fairy tale book; all in the middle of the forest. The outside patio and manicured gardens are where you'll find yourself all the time, either having an early breakfast, winding down from the day or enjoying dinner under the stars with the many candles provided. We were greeted by Martin and Paula, wonderful people and hosts that pay attention to all the details. They even had our little Christmas present with chocolate and a bottle of wine plus a mini Christmas' tree to great us on our arrival. They also helped me with finding a doctor so I could have my insect bite checked, and kept checking on me to ensure I was doing well. Even though it was really hot, the nights with a fan were okay and the proximity to the beach (get a 4x4!) and the river waterfalls help to cool us down. As for the Internet, expect days of no connections and days of slow internet speeds (text-only email), so if that's important to you, check out if things got better. Not a bad way of disconnecting from the hectic routine though. We will definitely go back here again! Thanks you guys from a wonderful time in your slice of paradise.

Thanks Jaime. It was a pleasure to have you both stay at Casa Antigua and to get to know you, even briefly. I just want to add that the insect bite was not some thing that occurred while you were staying at our home. Don't want to scare folks off! Marty thinks he has a new system that will help to ensure more consistent wifi. Take good care!!

Eighteen years ago my husband and I took our first trip together to Costa Rica and fell deeply in love with the country. Making our way to the small coastal Tico village of Uvita, where the mountains meet the Pacific Ocean, we found the beauty of the country rivaled only by the beauty of the Tico people. We felt that we had "come home" to a place where the inter connectedness of true community, and the ease and openness that radiates from people (a true mixture of Tico and extranjeros) is present in every interaction.
Now, living in Costa Rica we have found our that our lives are greatly enriched by this beautiful environment. About 4 years ago we designed and built Villa Esondida (Hidden Villa) and it was a true labor of love. It brings us great pleasure to invite guests to enter this magical world and to participate in ensuring that their vacation is memorable and exceeds their expectations.
