The grounds feature a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, as well as oak, pine, cypress, and two young olive trees. There is also a cherry tree that bears fruit in the spring, a small spice garden home to lavender, rosemary, mint, as well as basil and vegetables in the summer months. There are also a handful of small bamboo groves which dot the property.

Quiet but not isolated, the house is ideal for a relaxing getaway as well as writing and research, with plenty of nooks to work in, and two desks. There is wireless internet and cable TV, a washing machine and dishwasher. The fully-equipped kitchen opens onto a dining room and a living room that overlook the elevated patio area. There is a working fireplace in the living room, and an outdoor stone barbecue.

We are an international family living in France and around the world. Those of us in France and living in the surrounding region will be available to help you organize your trip and to make sure your stay is comfortable and we will provide you with our email addresses and telephone numbers so that you can easily be in touch with us. We speak a host of languages between us (English, French, Spanish) and will do our best to communicate with you in the language you feel most comfortable with. This rustic and charming four bedroom, two bathroom Provencal house is located three km (20 minutes on foot and only minutes by car) from the picturesque village of Jouques, which once served as the summer residence of the Archbishop of Aix en Provence. Roughly 25 minutes by car (26 km) or 40 minutes by bus to the Southwest lies the bustling student town of Aix-en Provence, which was founded by the Romans and today is home to a vibrant Provençal market (Tue, Thurs, Sat) as well as live theater, music, cinemas, and shopping. Marseille, France’s most famous maritime city, is located less than an hour (55 km) away. The Aix TGV station is 40 minutes away and Marignane/Marseille airport is 45 mins (50kms) away. The location is ideal for vacationing in Provence, with many of the main attractions of the region within an hour or two by car, including Avignon, Nice, Cannes, Arles, Marseilles, Aix-en-Provence, and a host of other cultural and natural attractions of Southern France.

The surrounding vicinity boasts a range of activities, from sightseeing in the splendid towns and cities of provence, to wine-tasting in the many area vineyards, as well as walking, hiking and other outdoor activities, including tennis courts in the village. Nearby (and visible from the upstairs balcony) is the Concors, a local mountain that can be hiked most months of the year.

The nearby village of Jouques, with the ruins of an 11th century church perched above, hosts a local outdoor market on Sundays year-round. The village has several bakeries, a butcher, two small supermarkets, and a handful of restaurants, bars and cafes in and around the town. The local Presse carries the International Herald Tribune as well as local and national French publications. On the outskirts of Jouques is a lovely lavender distillery and gift shop.

Jouques is within two hours or less of a host of nearby cities, towns and attractions, including: Marseilles, Aix, Arles, Avignon, the Luberon, Meyrargues, Mont St. Victoire, the Gorges du Verdon, Montpellier, the Cote d’Azur, Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez, Antibes, Apt, St. Maximin de la Ste. Baume, and many museums, including the Museum d’Histoire Naturelle d’Aix; and the Musee de Prehistoire du Gorge du Verdon (Quinson).

Each of the four bedrooms are spacious and have ample light. They each have double beds & closet space. The upstairs bedroom includes a bathroom w/ walk-in shower & its own balcony that looks out over the garden and towards the Concors mountain. 2 of the 3 bedrooms on the 1st floor have separate doorways leading to the garden & desks. One of these was recently converted into a beautiful 2 story open loft space with a double bed above and the possibility of sleeping 1 or 2 people below on single mattresses. These 3 rooms share a large spacious bathroom and a separate wc. The living/dining and kitchen are open onto each other & are beautiful rooms with high ceilings. The living/dining rooms have multiple glass doors that face the sunny stone terrace & pool, while the kitchen which is separated by an open bar, has a door & window that open to the other side of the garden. There is a separate garage and laundry room attached to the house as well as several rustic horse stalls & a pool house used for storage dotted across the property. The property is not isolated but it is quiet at night and on clear evenings you can get great views of the stars, especially from the terrace or the upstairs balcony.

This is our family country home adorned with our personal belongings. The house has a nice cozy vibe because it has been lived in and we expect our guests to feel comfortable and at home while at the same time treating our home and belongings with respect. The home is on a large country property that is heavy with trees and brush and is therefore home to garden variety wildlife that coexist peacefully with us. We ask our guests to treat our garden and its flora and fauna with respect. Part of the allure of this home is its greenery which isolates it from the surrounding properties and makes it perfect for relaxing with friends and/or working. There is no smoking indoors. Smoking outdoors requires careful disposal of butts. No pets allowed in the house. Pool use must be supervised by adults and the pool alarm must always be on. The pool is covered and out of use from late fall to late spring but this can be negotiated. A full list of house rules and useful information will be made available to rentees.
