The location of this place is amazing. Portobello Road was the best location I’ve lived in London since I came here 5 months ago, and I’ve been moving every month through Airbnb as a way to explore the city. I loved waking up to the sound of the market on the weekends (amazing food, music, cool vendors). The area itself is fantastic and I plan on visiting it again before I head back to the states. Lots of great restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. The apartment is nice aside from being a little dirty. (My sheets weren’t washed when I arrived and the entrance stairs are covered in dirt.) The apt is modern, has good style, great kitchen and huge gorgeous windows in the living room, which although great for people watching can make the apt get a little cold during the winter months. The room I stayed in stays warmer and the bed is very comfortable and soft. As for the hosts, John is open, welcoming and friendly. His roommate Catalina however is an unnerving mixture of friendliness and aggressiveness. She made me feel very unwelcome, going so far as to tell me point blank that she didn't enjoy being an airbnb host within the first three days of my stay, while John did the opposite, so the stay, while mostly enjoyable, at times felt confusing and like a bit of a drag, which was disappointing considering how great the location was. I was a bit disappointed when my reservation ended, which is either a tribute to the general quality of the stay for the value or a testament to making the best of things. I'm sure that not everyone will have this experience, but it was mine and while I didn't have a great time here socially, I wouldn't go so far as to warn others off. Overall a decent stay in a fantastic area and nice room for a very reasonable price.
