Our large home made of Wissahickon schist is on a lovely, tree-lined street in the West Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. Fairmount Park with its many trails, the local train to Center City, and the neighborhood food cooperative and coffee shop are within a few blocks.

Le logement

Our house is spacious and comfortable. On the first floor, there is a formal living room where fires blaze in the fireplace during the winter. The dining room has a large table with ten upholstered chairs, hardwood floors, and traditional wallcoverings. The kitchen has been updated with granite countertops, Fisher & Paykel appliances, and numerous coffee devices. The kitchen is adjacent to a breakfast room/TV area. (There is only one TV in our home with cable.)

Our family inhabits the second floor of the house however, the third floor is available to our guests. There is one major bedroom with a queen and a single bed and a bathroom just outside of the door. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, and sink.

While we house our cars in the garage, there is one remaining space in the driveway for a vehicle. Additionally, there is ample on-street parking on either side of the street. We have a lovely backyard with a gas grill, chairs, wind sculptures. There is a sun room with adjacent terraces.

Accès des voyageurs

Our guests will have access to the kitchen if needed. There is ample space to refrigerate perishables.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We are very social people and can interact as much or as little as our guests desire.

Autres remarques

Our house was the first home to the famous von Trapp family upon their arrival in the United States in 1938. We would be happy to share some of the memorabilia with you.

Absolutely loved my stay in Chestnut Hill- my only regret is that I didn't have more free time to spend with Karen and Bob, as they're absolutely fantastic individuals. Very helpful, and a beautiful home with an amazing location. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

Beautiful home, wonderful hosts!!! The house is lovely inside and out. It was clean and comfortable in a very nice neighborhood. We had a short stay, but Karen and Bob were extraordinarily kind and helpful the entire time. I am grateful and would certainly recommend!

Words cannot convey how wondrously my crew and I were welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. Karen and Bob were altogether delightful and cheery, pointing out the marvelous historical references their house embodies. They had us using the dining room with a beautiful long table, surrounded by pictures and antique cabinets with object d'art... I frequently felt it was too stately to actually be using but there we were, our motley crew, dining like kings and queens! Karen had offered us a meager meal upon arrival, so we never suspected the sumptuous freshly grilled chicken and roasted veggie banquet they provided. The fact that we were filming the Democratic Party National Convention may have had something to do with how tolerant and patient our hosts were with us. We had planned to be out every morning by 9am and back late every day but plans change minute by minute on a film shoot. Hence, we were in the house much more than anyone had expected. The heat outside was unbearable but the central air conditioning kept us comfortable, especially on the ground floor, where Producer Jesse Bertel set up his lighting and camera equipment for interviews with people in politics. I simply cannot thank Karen and Bob enough for their loving kindness, especially poignant that their daughter had come home at the same exact time we came to stay. I'm afraid we were a major distraction during that event in their lives but how gracious they were in not letting us feel any imposition they might have been experiencing! The guest rooms are all on the third floor, with 2 bathrooms accessible to all but again, our hosts went beyond the norm and permitted us use of their own bathroom on the second floor as well. As if that weren’t enough, they even gave us use of their washer/dryer, not promised on their Abnb page! This was their “retribution” for invading their home the way we had. Again, I cannot thank them enough for the comfort, the beautiful surroundings and accommodation they provided all 8 of us. Next time I’m in filming in Philly, I’ll be sure to rejoin Karen and Bob, if they’ll dare to have me again.

Karen was in contact before we arrived, giving us detailed information on how to find the house and letting us know how to contact her or her husband should we arrive early. As it worked out she was there to greet us when we did arrive, welcomed us warmly, and showed us to the lovely room and private bath which was ours for the weekend. The house is absolutely beautiful and conveniently located for us to see friends in Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill, and also in Center City. The first morning of our visit we were out very early before our hosts even woke. Fortunately, after having breakfast with friends, my husband ran back to the house to pick up something he had forgotten and found Bob, Karen's husband, about to make us breakfast. In spite of that mix-up, we were able to partake of their hospitality the following morning. Bob made us delicious omelets and we very much enjoyed sharing coffee and conversation with our hosts. We would definitely stay at this listing again on a future visit to Philadelphia.

What exceptional hosts! Karen and Bob provided the definition of a true "Air Bed and Breakfast" experience. I've stayed at many places and this was one of my top. My boyfriend and I were in town enjoying a music festival. Karen and Bob were accommodating with our late check in and check outs - and even gave us a lift to the nearby train. We enjoyed great conversation with them as well. If I can't say enough about the hosts - the house and neighborhood were gems as well. The pictures don't do it justice. Beautiful old home that has the character, charm and decor of past and present. It is a gem - be sure to ask for the Sound of Music story! We stayed on the 3rd floor of the home that had several bedrooms and was very comfortable. We had our own private bathroom that included fresh linens and awesome body wash. The bed was comfy and everything was very clean. They prepared a nice guide of the local area that we took some time to explore. The neighborhood is beautiful and peaceful. Everyone was very kind. Great little coffee shop and co-op in within walking distance. If you have the time - check them out! We felt so at home! We are planning to return back for sure. Thanks Karen and Bob!
