This is a hostel mostly for long stay Indonesian tenants. It is called a kost (a boarding house) in the local lingo. Those who rent on a long term basis are housed on the 1st floor. Our room was on the ground floor with tiny ensuite bathroom that doesn't have a door. You’ll have to stand in front of the wc while you shower, for some privacy. There is a bathroom cum toilet outside but it is kept locked. This one doesn't have hot shower. The room is quite small. There is a glass panel near to the ceiling that lets light in from the tiny common area. You'll have to get the Wifi password from the caretaker. The night caretaker stays nearby We didn't get to meet Alfred but we called to get further instruction on how to get to the place. We got down from the Transjakarta bus Mangga Besar stop and the halte faced the lamb soup restaurant (sop kambing). Nice food. The bus stop is situated over the Batang Hari canal, previously known as as Molenvliet, which was dug in the 17th century Alfred was so kind as to send the caretaker to guide us to his place. There is a respectable sized Gramedia book shop and a GM (Gadjah Mada) bakmi restaurant on the main road (Jalan Gadjah Mada). On the opposite parallel road (Jalan Hayam Wuruk) there is the famous Garuda restaurant. Thanks to Alfred and his caretaker for making our stay comfortable and safe. The caretaker offered to give us his mobile number in case we needed any help. He also gave us tips to how to navigate around the city.
