À propos de ce logement

We relocated this old house to the beach. The house is old but the inside is all new. It is filled with light, views of cows and green hills, 400 mt from the ocean and the excellent Kilcunda General Store for great food and coffee. Have a beer at sunset on the deck of the pub, or stay home on our large raised deck and watch the cows go home.

Our house is all about peace, beauty and rest. The house is filled with light and has beautiful 1930's steel frame windows overlooking green hills. The cows come down most mornings and evenings. We tend to sit down and just watch them at the back fence. We've come to call it 'cow tv'!

We do NOT get TV reception and we have decided that we are ok with this. Guests tend to bring their laptops and link up to the TV and watch iview, downloads or the many great DVDs that we have. We have a large and varied selection of books, lots of cds, games, art materials, and a pretty and edible garden to potter in. The house has a generous lounge area, large table seating 8 inside and another larger table on the deck that can seat 10. There are couches in some of the bed rooms as well as super delicious comfy QS beds, so people can peel off from the group and read, or chill out.

The kitchen works really well and there are loads of pantry basics. We have an honesty box in the pantry, and people tend to make a contribution if they have needed to use some bits and pieces from the pantry. It is well stocked for people who like to cook. It has a Smeg oven, food processor, and making devices for ice-cream, pasta, milkshakes, dumpling moulds, slow cooker, as well as microwave, kettle etc. The cookware is old but good quality, much of it cast iron.

We love old retro stuff, so lots of the kitchenalia is vintage, and there is loads of really gorgeous old china and glassware. There is everyday china too, so if you cant be bothered, use the plain white stuff.

The knives are sharp, the tea towels are linen, the view from the kitchen window makes you enjoy washing up!

There is a beautiful rear deck that is quite large and it has a BBQ and a splendid view...perfect for morning tea or sunset gin and tonics.

The 3 x QS bedrooms are all beautifully and gently furnished in homey retro style and the beds are maxo comfy! At night, it is so dark, still and quiet that you can hear the sea while you are falling asleep. People always comment that they sleep really deeply at Kilcunda.

As you can tell, we do really love Kilcunda, and our dear old houses. There are in fact 2 houses on a very large block, and both can be rented for larger family groups.

The whole house is yours but there is a studio room at the rear and that tends to be full of our works in progress so we respectfully ask if you please keep the door closed.

We live in Melbourne and so when you stay at Killy we are unlikely to meet. We have wonderful neighbours though who will be happy yo assist if need be.

There is just so much wild and unspoilt beauty along the coast. The beaches vary from wild exhilarating surf, to magical rockpools which are great for kids. Some of our favorite spots are walking and swimming at the Mouth of the Powlett River, Shipwreck Bay at Harmers Haven, the walks along the old trestle bridges, amazing sunsets on the deck of the killy pub, awesome coffee and food at the Kilcunda General Store, the uber cool markets around, including Factory Seven and Shott Cafe and bric a brac markets in Wonthaggi. There are also great markets at Kongwak and of course, markets , penguins and a squillion people 15 mins away on Phillip Island. We like to visit the island but we really enjoy coming back to killy where the beaches are not crowded and life is very gentle.

We have an undercover double car port but if guests wish to come by public transport, there are buses from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne which stop just a few hundred metres from our house. Buses can also be taken to Wonthaggi and Phillip Island.

We love art, books, upcycled and recycled vintage and retro things. I have a stall at Factory Seven in Wonthaggi. This is not just a holiday house. We usually live here about 1/2 the week, and so the pantry is full of basics and we love to cook. We leave an honesty jar in the pantry because one can't just pop out for some forgotten ingredient and people seem happy to leave some money there for bits and pieces that they used.

We hope that when you see the house, you will love it as we do. We ask people to just love it and respect the house. Smoking is fine outside. We tend to take off shoes at the door and often bring up our cats. Dogs can be accomodated but it's good to talk about each individual case.
