À propos de ce logement
Modern condo lovingly decorated with inspiration from times past. Located next to historic Humboldt Park, close to Ukrainian Village/Wicker Park/Logan Square. At Grand bus stop that brings easy access to downtown. Private bath w/rain shower.
Our home is on a tree lined street just next to Humboldt Park and easy walking distance to nearby shops and restaurants. We love the convenience of newer homes with the style of older homes, so have decorated with a lot of antiques and bold colors.
The porch and roof deck are a wonderful oasis in the warmer months, generally May - September. However we also have blankets up there for when it's chillier (April & October). Once the weather gets pretty cold and starts to snow we have covers over all the furniture, but it's great to go up there at any point of the year to check out the stunning day/night views of Chicago's gorgeous cityscape.
The pool is located just at the end of our block and is open U.S. Memorial Day - Labor Day. It has a great waterslide! On some weekdays it's closed in the AM for swim classes, but when open it's totally free for anyone to use. We have beach towels if you need them.
Accès des voyageurs
We're on a 3rd floor walk up with no elevator. It's a 4 floor building with stair access to the roof deck.
Our place is open concept, so the kitchen/living/dining rooms are all one space. Your room and bathroom (directly across from your room) are just down the hall next to the main area. Bathroom has a rainshower! We have a front porch and a private section of the roof deck as well.
You're welcome to hang out anywhere in the space except our bedroom (has a separate master bath in it) and office.
Échanges avec les voyageurs
We generally keep to ourselves, but are glad to help give pointers for directions, places to see, and the like. Yves is fluent in English and Spanish too!
We're pretty low key and may be around (watching movies/cooking/etc), but also may be out and about at some points, varies depending on the day and season.
Humboldt Park is directly next to us, along with many long tree-lined boulevards, all of which are great for a picnic in warmer months. There are some beautiful old buildings and a boathouse with a lagoon in Humboldt Park, it's great to take a walk around there and soak in the sights, maybe pick up a snack from one of the food trucks as well!
The intersection of Augusta and California streets have some wonderful shops and restaurants, it's a growing area, so there are plans for more places to open as well. A bit further East on Chicago Ave also has a lot to offer.
The 606 Trail is a great newer park located on an old elevated train track, and located just 2 miles North of us.
There's free parking available on our street. In general (as with anywhere in Chicago), make sure to not leave any electronics/GPS/cords out in your car. It's about a 20 minute drive to downtown (depending on traffic).
At the end of our block just across the street is the Grand/Kedzie (line#65) bus stop, which takes you to downtown in 25-30 mins. In your room there will be a transit card with funds for 1 ride (for 2 ppl) plus a transfer.
The Kedzie bus can take you up to the Logan Square neighborhood, and other buses bring you to other neighborhoods nearby (Wicker Park, Bucktown, Ukrainian Village).
There is a Divvy bike station at the intersection of California & Augusta streets.
When calling a cab if you use Uber or Lyft apps they often arrive within minutes, depending on the time of day.
Let us know if you have any questions about getting to/from Midway, O'Hare, Union Station, etc. We're glad to help with pointers. If you're traveling from outside the country and will be without phone access but have a device with Wifi, we both have Whats App so can easily be contacted that way once you're here.
For breakfast we have basics like tea, coffee, eggs, yogurt, fruit, and cereal (we sometimes have almond milk sometimes regular, it varies). If you have any specific dietary restrictions, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate. Breakfast is all available to serve yourself whenever you want it, early riser and late sleeper friendly!
If you'd like to do your laundry we ask for $3/load, you're welcome to use our detergent, etc.
If you have any questions, ask away! We love to travel and hope to make your voyage to our beautiful city of Chicago as enjoyable as possible!

Please no outside folks in the home unless previously discussed. In general though no group gatherings.
Be respectful of noise after bedtime (varies but generally by 10-11 on weekdays, sometimes later on weekends). We may be up watching TV or something later in the evening, but will be quiet and respectful as well.
Aside from the breakfast food we provide, you're welcome to also bring your own food/drink and use the kitchen. If needed to cook you can use the basics (ie. spices, cooking oil) as well, please pick up after yourself.
We're a 'green' home, so have a separate bin for all recyclables in the kitchen, please rinse things out and use it accordingly.
No pets, we occasionally dogsit, but if we'll ever have one during your stay will let you know. They're all small fluffy ones and generally breeds that don't cause allergies.
We have some family antiques in the house, so please in general be careful with and respectful of the home.

We love to travel and met each other on a trip abroad! Alayna is from Ann Arbor, MI, and Yves from Venezuela with a dash of Swiss. We travel internationally as much as possible, and try to make it to a new country (or at least new place) within each trip. One of the most memorable was a voyage across Eastern Europe: had the pleasure of visiting 5 countries, but the Transylvania region in Romania was the most magical for us.
We are big DIYers and always have an ongoing list of projects to work on. We especially love to find old pieces of furniture at vintage/thrift shops, and refinish them to give them new life.
We love gardening once the warm weather comes around and enjoying the fruits of our labor by cooking up the veggies/herbs. Yves is a culinary teacher and the head chef in our kitchen!
