19th Century stone built cottage in Callander offering flexible accommodation for up to 7 (Double Room, Twin room with extra bed, sofabed). Situated at the quieter (away from the main pubs, restaurants, shops) end of the main street with parking at the door and a short walk to local amenities. (Please note that this is on the main street so all traffic passing through still goes past the property)

Le logement

Fairhill Cottage has gas central heating and guests are provided with bed linen and towels. The accommodation is non smoking and well behaved, non-moulting pets are allowed by prior arrangement (£25 per week surcharge).

Cottage comprises the following:

Bedroom 1: Double bed.
Bedroom 2: Twin beds with an extra pull out single bed allowing sleeping for 3.
Living Room: Leather sofas, Freesat TV, DVD player and double sofa bed allowing extra sleeping for 2 persons.
Family/Dining Room: Dining table, sofa, radio/CD player.
Bathroom: With over bath electric shower.
Kitchen: Equipped with electric hob, oven, fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle.
Garden: Sunny secluded garden with views to Callander Crags and Ben Ledi.

I confirm the lindsay comments : strong smell of mouldor damp. Noisy road and windows poorly isolated Callander is the rigt place to have walk in the trossachs and around the loch lomond

Thank you for your comments, I will reaspond to each of the points you have raised: 1. With regard to dampness in the property - following previous comments in June, at some considerable expense we got the entire property surveyed by professionals and they confirmed that there is no underlying dampness in the property so we are quite shocked to hear that you think there is, please could you let us know where exactly you think there is a damp problem as we cannot find any trace of dampness. With regard to any odour, I think that the doormat inside the front door may smell very slightly when it gets damp (which it has a lot this summer!), we will look at getting this replaced when the property is redecorated and re-carpeted during the winter. 2. With regard to noise, the property is situated on the main street in Callander and as such all traffic passing through the town passes the front of the cottage. Our advertising states that the cottage is at the quieter end of the main street - this is exactly what it is, it is away from the noise and bustle of the main shops, pubs and restaurants. and away from the parts of the main street where it is difficult to park. The cottage is 150 years old and is in a conservation area and we are not allowed to replace the single glazed windows at the front of the property, unfortunately these are not as soundproof as modern double glazed units. 3. With regard to the bed bases, these are periodically replaced and we will check them for noisiness next time the cottage is empty.

There's a strong smell of either damp or mould. There was a half eaten bag of food in freezer. Needs a few D.I.Y bits done....double bedroom door handle comes off, shower comes off wall. The curtains are almost see through. The carpets are a bit thread bare. The garden isn't actually attached to the property. Very basic.

There is no damp or mould in the property. With regard to food left in the freezer compartment we apologise that this was missed at the last change over, we normally throw all perishable food away at the end of each let (the food was a bag of frozen onion rings). With regard to the DIY bits you mention, things get damaged by our guests all the time and we try to keep on top of maintenance in the short time we have between guests leaving and the next coming in. This is usually a matter of hours in which time our prime concern is getting the property thoroughly cleaned and bedding changed. The last guests before you managed to break the toilet cistern and a lamp which took most of that window of time to get sorted so some of the less urgent items were not sorted at that time. The curtains are quite thin but each bedroom is also equipped with blackout blinds. With regard to the carpets, we admit they are now getting quite worn but will be replaced after the summer along with redecoration.

Cottage was a great base for our 5 days exploring the area. Handy location, good size for our family of four and had everything we needed.

Cottage was very nice and location was perfect!It was on the Main street of Callander and everything was in a walking distance. Cottage was charming and it was a joy to spend our holiday there. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to spend their holiday in the Highlands.

The house was exactly what we were looking for with easy access to amenities and local area. Everything was very comfortable and there were clear instructions for heating and cooking. Would recommend as a place to stay in the area and Richard was very helpful with questions leading up to the trip
