We have had a wonderful experience renting our house on AirBnB. Unfortunately there is always someone who causes problems, eventually. Mike Collins left our home in extremely filthy condition. Someone is his party was violently ill and a bed left covered in human waste, which apparently no one made an attempt to clean. When confronted, he denied it, did not apologize, or offer to replace the items. The mattress and linens were not okay to use again and were disposed of. We now have a whole new bed and linens in this room. We have a professional maid clean in between each renter and she spent extra time sanitizing the area. We understand people get sick and our goal is not to embarrass our guests. However, due to Mike’s handling of the situation, we thought we should share this information and possibly spare other hosts like ourselves. Regarding his complaints, we do not have any other reports of odor or roaches. We completed renovation of the house in August 2015. The interior walls and their contents are brand new and the home is sprayed regularly for pests. We were skeptical about these complaints, especially because we have record of Mike contradicting himself several times. Regardless, we decided to look into these complaints to be ABSOLUTELY SURE none of our future guests experience these problems. -ODOR: We could not detect and odor. We had several friends and neighbors inspect the house and no one reported a smell. -COCKROACHES: We had the house examined by an exterminator. He could not find any signs of roaches or infestation. We did go ahead and give the house an extra spray for safe measure. The only explanation is if a door or window was left open and a palmetto bug flew in – they are commonly mistaken for roaches. We do have some rather exotic creatures in Florida, such as geckos and palmetto bugs. It is very normal to see them outside and occasionally one might sneak in an open door. I’m not sure why Mike believes we are anal. We do keep the house immaculate, which most guests appreciate. We did decide to make our home available to parties of adults only as it was built in 1910 and is not the safest or best environment for children. For the record, Mike did not have any children in his group.
