Description

Our home is a historic, somewhat rustic carriage house tucked on a dead-end street in the City of Belfast. We are 4 blocks to the ocean and 6 blocks to the center of town, easy walking distance to almost anything! This room is located up a set of winding steep stairs on the second floor. The house is small but with high ceilings and a lot of windows it feels spacious and welcoming. For rent are the two upstairs bedrooms on either side of a sitting room, with this room at the end of a very short hall. It has two twin beds tucked under two of the slanted walls of the room, each with a bedside table and lamp, a desk, dresser, and stacks of wooden crates to store your things. Unless you are renting this room along with the master bedroom, your bathroom is shared and downstairs. The sitting room has a desk, a settee, rocker, books for browsing and games for guest use.

Guests may make light use of the kitchen, sunroom, deck, yard, fire pit.

Between a full time job and outdoor adventures I am not home a lot, but would love to share my knowledge of the area with you when I am home.

Belfast is a lovely and lively coastal Maine town. We have a wonderful assortment of restaurants, bars, ice cream of course, small shops and "real stores", like a hardware store, shoe store, bookstore, kitchen store, and food coop among many others. The numerous art galleries have festive openings every Friday night. There is a movie theater in the center of town and community theater performances through out the summer. Every Thursday night there is live outdoor music somewhere in town, just follow your ears, or ask a local. There are many historic churches and grand old ship-captain houses to wander by. Belfast is build along the shores of one of the innermost harbors of the Penobscot Bay at the mouth of the Passagassawakeag River. From the shore you can witness a stunning sunrise over the ocean, and views of the harbor with the boats tugging against the tide on their moorings. You can access the the rocky beaches by plenty of public ways with areas for swimming, walking and boating. The new boardwalk in town skirts the coastline, through several waterfront parks and extends to a footbridge over the river and footpath up river. We have maps of Belfast available and plenty of recommendations!

The only public transportation services here are a small taxi service and a daily Concord Trailways bus service to the Rockland area, Bangor, Portland and Boston. If you are intrepid, our home is about a mile walk downhill from where the Concord Trailways stops. There are ferry services to the larger islands from Lincolnville and Rockland. Fortunately, since we are right in town, you have easy access to just about anything local by walking, biking or boating. We have a few bikes that can be borrowed to explore the area, a canoe and dinghy at the shore and you can paddle into town, or maybe you would like to row over to the local lobster pound for a byob picnic on the wharf.

Sweet home, in a very quiet area. I did not get to meet Betsy, but she left helpful notes. Her place is welcoming and comfortable with a great sunporch for coffee in the morning. The shared bath was spotless! And the overall decor was unique a quite wonderful.

Belfast is still somewhat of a hidden gem, not overrun with tourists, like Camden and Rockland, and it's a good base to explore the surrounding areas. In town there is the picturesque Belfast harbor, good restaurants, breweries, book shops (Old Prof's), Front Street Shipyard, friendly locals and more. (For a small town, Belfast has an enviable of collection of well-kept Greek Revivals). Betsy has a beautiful home, tastefully decorated and is in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance from center of town. She and her son went out of their way, literally and figuratively, to make my stay comfortable. It felt like I had the whole house to myself. I didn't get to socialize much with them, as I was out and about trying to soak in as much of this part of mid-coast region and the town in a short time. I truly enjoyed staying at Betsy's home and will love to stay at her place when I'm up that way again.

Betsy was super nice with my dad. He was so happy staying at her place with her and her son. The apartment is very cute and the neighborhood is 10' walking from downtown Belfast. Totally recommended!

Betsy is a wonderful host. Her home is adorable, clean, comfortable and decorated with charm. Its location is so close to the center of downtown Belfast that I could zip back for a quick lunch while working long days. We had some delightful conversations and look forward to returning to this bustling, small community with its fabulous food co-op and farmers' market, and a thriving artistic community.

Betsy is a wonderful host. Although she's busy most of times but she make sure her guests are taking care off. We had a few moments felt we were at home with a better view! Haha! We had blast in Maine and we will definitely visit Maine and Betsy again!
