Ka'ena Point State Park - offering a beautiful hike and a rare Albatross nesting area
Along the westernmost point of O‘ahu. The trail leads to Ka‘ena Point Natural Area Reserve, a remote and scenic protected area harboring some of the last vestiges of coastal sand dune habitat on the island, and home to native plants and seabirds. Whales frequent this shoreline during the winter months. Allow 1 to 3 hours depending on your pace. Stay away from the wave-exposed coast.
A hike to Ka‘ena Point can take two routes. From the Wai‘anae side, take the trailhead at the end of the paved road in the Keawaula Section of Ka‘ena Point State Park and follow the dirt roadway for 2.4 miles to Ka‘ena Point Natural Area Reserve. This route follows the shoreline on your left (southwest), characterized by boulder beaches and occasional tidepools, while cliffs rise above you on your right (northeast). Midway along the trail are a pair of small blowholes.
Keawaula Beach / Yokohama Bay
Yokohama Bay when you head towards the most west northern tip of Oahu, known to as Ka’ena Pt. Also referred to as Keawaula Beach, this Oahu beach resides in one of the most secluded areas of the island. Yokohama Bay is pristine beautiful, untouched by development for miles around, and framed by the Waianae Mountain Range in the background. You’ll usually find this Oahu beach empty, with an extensive sandy beach to explore all to yourself.
Makaha Beach Park (1 mile from the Condo)
The swimming is better in the summer months when the ocean is generally calmer here (but exceptions are always possible). In the winter months, the surf is often times up This is when Makaha Beach is only suitable for experienced surfers.
If you want to swim - then drive to Ko olina 14 miles away to swim in the Protected lagoons OR Visit Aluna the new Disney Resort there (have a meal to get your parking validated for the day:) and swim shop or eat there:) Its open to day trippers:)
Kaena point offers some fo the best snorkeling. Its best to go with an experienced local guide.
Waianae Mountain Range
Mount Kaala Trail - Very easy at the beginning for the 1st mile - then very strenuous - but awesome views.
Dolphin Excursion & Whale Watch!! Excelllent and just a mile down the road:)
One of the best companies to whale watch with or do a dolphin outing. Their office is 1 mile from the condo.Their boats will take you to an area well known for having the calmest and clearest waters around the island, ideal for snorkeling, and home to Spinner Dolphins and those mighty winter visitors, Humpback whales. What Our Guests Say
WHAT GUESTS SAY ABOUT THEIR STAY
-Very nice setting !
The condo was very clean and fully updated and a corner unit on the top floor. The property was nicely landscaped, clean, well maintained and home to about 30 peacocks. The complex was very safe and the neighbours were quiet. Good snorkeling close by at Makaha Beach and Ka'ena Point Beach, which in my opinion was one of the nicest beaches on the island. Went hiking to Ka'ena Point State Park and saw 2 greymonk seals and the albatross nesting site. This area is one of the quieter sides of the island where many local native hawaiins live. Also went golfing twice at the Makaha Valley Golf course which is only two minutes away and is a nice course that is reasonably priced. Catriona is a very detail oriented person who was quick to respond to any questions and provided detailed instructions about the condo and tourist attractions.
- Resort View, Fantastic area for hikes, Beaches with low tourist density walking distance away!!
Fell in love as soon as we arrived. Plenty of space inside so that we weren't tripping over our children (which is usually the case in cramped hotel rooms). The complex itself has live Peacocks that rome around as they please, adding to the tropical magic. A brisk hike can be found just around 200 meters up the road thats hard enough to leave you with a stomach for a large lunch, but easy enough for our youngest (12) to act as pack leader most of the time. Makaha beach is outstanding as well, a little further then the walking trail, but by no means out of walking distance. Not only does this beach have the benefit of being remote enough to limit human traffic, theres also an increase in aquatic life traffic as a result. I was able to have my entire family swim besides two Sea Turtles. This left quiet the lasting impression with my boys. We usually don't like to repeat trips/locations for our family vacations, but Catriona's Makaha Vally condo might be the exception to that rule!
- Clean and comfortable condo on top (third) floor. Well equipped. Beautiful surroundings
The condo is situated in a "gated" area that is very well maintained. Very peaceful surroundings, lots of birds in the gardens. The valley plantation is between spectacular mountains surrounding the Makaha Vally and open to the ocean. Roughly one mile to the Makaha beach with few tourists and a beautiful beach, as good as the best on Oahu. Close to food, surf shops etc. Comfortable condo, well equipped, Everything you need for living. Clean. Very pleasant owner, easy communication, no fuss. Highly recommended, we'd like to return in the future!
