What more can you ask for? A sky full of stars and the glowing rocks over the lake in the sunset. Colorful lizards darting all about. Quiet and comfortable home- even prettier than the pics. Annie keeps the house extremely clean and orderly and Teri is kind and responsive. Stay in peaceful, tasteful luxury on the best swimming lake in NM.

Teri and Max's home is surrounded by the most unbelievably stunning vista imaginable. The location is completely breathtaking: Abiquiu lake, visible from the patio; Pedernal, visible from the kitchen window; the gorgeous low foliage of New Mexico all around. We swam daily in the lake, a short drive away, and soaked daily in the hot tub--there is little reason, really, to ever leave their beautiful house, which is elegant, comfortable, cool, and spacious, but we made the most of the proximity to Ghost Ranch, where we rode horses and hiked the trails. Teri and Max are gracious and generous hosts: a bottle of wine greeted us upon our arrival, and Teri contacted me on our first day there to make sure we had arrived and had everything we needed. Later, when we did have a question about operating the hot tub, Teri, as always, was prompt in her reply and wonderfully warm in her assertion that we could of course call on her for anything we might need. One evening, sitting outside at sunset with my husband and daughters, I looked around us and said, "Everything--is perfect--" And it really is.

We have been to New Mexico many times, on brief visits to Santa Fe, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch, Farmington, various pueblos, and Chaco Canyon. This time we decided on a longer stay so we could do some painting in our favorite area – near Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch. Luckily we found Spiral Shaped Adobe and made a reservation for four weeks. Teri and Max's home turned out to be ideal for our desire for a quiet retreat from which to view and paint the scenery. Their spacious office at the opposite end of the house from the master suite provided ample room for us both to set up our art supplies and easels without bumping into each other. When we had an unexpected death in the family while there, the Spiral Adobe was an oasis of calm that comforted us. For Jean, leaving was particularly hard. The house and the area have become a spiritual home, comforting and inspiring. The unique semi-circular design envelops you with comforting curves. The great room living space expands into the large east-facing patio that lights up with every sunrise and provides a magnificent territorial view. A complete kitchen meets ones cooking needs. The adobe stays warm during cool nights and cool during hot days (if you keep it closed during the day.) Teri and Annie, the nearby housekeeper, were ready to answer any and all questions, provide advice on shopping and sights. The solitude comes with some caveats: The nearest gas station is in Abiquiu, about 15 miles away. Although there is a small grocery at Bode's in Abiquiu, the prices and choices make it best used to supplement your supplies. The nearest full groceries are in Espanola and Santa Fe. If you want a good selection of organic foods Santa Fe is the place to go even though it's over an hour away. This doesn’t seem far before you get to the house, but once you’re there you don’t want to stray very far. The internet/wifi is on a metered connection. If you are used to streaming video, using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), looking at websites that have video content, etc. you will quickly use up the available service. However, it is a fast and reliable connection for e-mail and some non-video intensive web surfing. And limiting your internet use adds to the peace you feel there. It is very quiet and dark out there. We loved it for just that reason. If you are not used to this you might feel intimidated. Storms are intense in the mountains. Be prepared to witness mother nature's best light and sound shows. Having been in the area before, we loved returning to Ghost Ranch and the surrounding landscape. However, Teri's great house-book gave us many other suggestions and we found several new favorites. Plaza Blanca was at the top of the list. This place that Georgia O'Keefe painted managed to show us something new with each visit. Echo Amphitheater is a gem despite its small size. We made three...

We have travelled to New Mexico at least a dozen times but never stayed outside of Santa Fe. We knew the Abiquiu area through our love of the Chama River, and wanted to have more time to explore nearby. The location of Teri's place afforded us that opportunity; We just didn't realize that we wouldn't want to leave her home! Quiet, private and secluded, incredible views, amazing and considerate spaces and architecture. And the sunrises, sunsets and mesmerizing night sky! We explored so many places within easy drives: Taos, El Rito (El Farolito Restaurant was great), Monestary of Christ in the Desert, Abiquiu of course, and the whole Espanola Valley. We hiked down to the red rocks of the Abiquiu Reservoir, Plaza Blanca, near Cerro Pedernal, and various stops along the Rio Chama including the recreation area beneath the dam. Whew! And every day we'd come back to the tranquility and peacefulness of Teri's place, grateful that we made the choice for an extended stay at this truly special home. Thank you Teri!
