With a small fishing harbour and sandy beach, the beautiful village of Agios Georgios is the perfect place for a quiet and restful holiday. For more amenities, the town of Methana is 9 kms away with bars, restaurants, shops and a bank. The islands of Aegina and Agistri are just a short ferry ride away and a 30 minute car journey will take you to the beautiful island of Poros. There are two double bedrooms, each with air conditioning and shuttered windows. One room opens onto the balcony with lovely sea views. The other has fitted wardrobes which give guests plenty of storage space. Bedding is provided and there is a hairdryer.

The kitchen has an electric cooker and oven. There are plenty of cupboards for guest's food, a large fridge freezer and a table and chairs for eating inside. Plates, cutlery, glasses and other cookware are there for guests to use along with a toaster, kettle, coffee jug, juicer and so on. There is a log burner in this room for chilly evenings.

On the balcony there is a large barbecue and a washing machine along with an outside table and chairs and a sun lounger. There is a shade for the mornings when the balcony gets full sun.

There is a shower with glass doors plus a toilet and hand basin. Hot water comes from a solar heated tank. There is also an immersion heater for those days when the sun doesn't shine enough or for when lots of people are showering. Towels are provided if requested.

Sitting room
This room is perfect for sitting at the end of the day or in the evening. There is a large settee plus two very comfortable chairs. The settee can also double as a very comfortable single bed.

When you stay, you will have sole use of the apartment. There will be a couple of cupboards that we will lock as we store our personal belongings there but other than that please feel free to use washing up liquid, toilet rolls, candles, mosquito coils and any foodstuff in the cupboards that is here when you arrive. It would be really helpful to us and any other users if you replace anything you have used before you leave.
Wifi has been installed and up to 4 devices can be used at any one time.

If we are not around, some friends look after the apartment and clean for visitors. They will meet you at a prearranged time to welcome you and hand over the keys to the apartment. They live just a short walk away so if you have any problems during your stay or any questions, feel free to ring them using the number that will be left for you on the contact sheet in the apartment. We have pulled together a folder which has other useful numbers, emergency contacts, information leaflets and suggestions as to where you can visit.

If you are looking for bars and night life, Agios Georgios is not for you. You
can find cafes, bars and restaurants in Methana but it is low key and family orientated. More action can be found in Poros but this is half an hours drive away.

The focus of the village is the little family beach and fishing. The bay is gently sloping and enclosed so it is safe and perfect for children to paddle in and fish. The beach is sandy which is unusual for this area. There are two tavernas selling delicious, simple home cooked Greek food.

There are several walks on the Methana peninsula although they are not always well marked. The walk up the volcano is well worth the effort. Most tracks are rough and it can get very hot so take water.

Sight seeing
Places worth visiting on Methana include(URL HIDDEN)Vathi – a delightful small village with a harbou(URL HIDDEN)La Playa beach just outside Methana tow(URL HIDDEN)The old acropolis near Megalahor(URL HIDDEN)Sulphur baths in Methana town(URL HIDDEN)spa for massage and thermal treatment(URL HIDDEN)The village and ancient ruins of Trizin(URL HIDDEN)Pigeon cave on the coast road to Vath(URL HIDDEN)The old castle above the junction where the Vathi coast road turns off the main road out of Methana

There should be a local Methana map in the information folder. These are very hard to come by so please leave in the folder when you go.

As we are 9 kms from the nearest town, it is preferable to have a car when come to stay. This will also enable you to do day trips to visit some of the famous ancient Greek sites in the Peloponnese.

We have a designated parking place in front of the garden area. Sometimes, the Greek neighbours will be parked there but they will move once they realise there are visitors in the apartment. They are all really friendly, so say hello - Yassas

If you are planning to stay around the village and make do without a car, you can get a taxi too and from Methana for about €12 each way.

In Greece, no toilet paper is put down the toilet. Please use the small bin in the bathroom for all used toiled paper and any sanitary items. Empty the bin along with all other rubbish.

Règlement intérieur

Not rules exactly, just some tips.

Rubbish Please take your rubbish out with you when you leave the apartment and leave it in one of the many bins on the roadside. If you follow the ‘river road' down towards the sea, there are bins at the bottom, just to the right. If you follow the other road, there are bins just up from the junction where the road joins on a bend as well as bins down at the bottom near the beach.

Please note, the Greeks are not very good with recycling so don't be surprised to see general rubbish in the recycling bins. (Also don't be surprised to find cats in the bins as well!)

There are a number of feral cats in the area as well as the odd stray dog As tempting as it is, please do not feed them. The problem is made worse when visitors put out food for the animals which then causes them to hang around. As well as causing problems for the people living here, it is not fair on the animals as they need to fend for themselves – when you leave, their food supply disappears and they go hungry.

This is a no smoking apartment but we are happy for you to smoke on the balcony

Helen's apartment is a fantastic space in a remote location. It provided everything we were looking for: peace and quiet, nature, opportunities for running, hiking and swimming, superb views over the water and nearby islands, and a comfortable and spacious apartment with all the needed amenities. Helen herself wasn't there but her friends Ian and Wendy, who live next door, were extremely welcoming and heart-warming when we finally arrived at the apartment in the middle of the night after a long delay. Since Agios Georgios is rather remote, you definitely need a car to get there; winding and hilly roads along the shore lead you to the village - a breathtaking drive up and downhill. The nearest small shops are 9 km away in Methana. But if you're looking for a spot away from the masses, in a beautiful natural setting in a small village with the real 'Greek feeling', this is just it. Thank you for a wonderful time here.

A good size apartment for a holiday: 2 bedrooms, a kitchen/diner & also a separate sitting room. Outside a good size balcony with great view. Flat well equipped & arrangements for access work well - although initially we drove past the house! You do need a car because nearest shops 6 miles away but despite that had a great, relaxing holiday. Would thoroughly recommend it if you want to escape the crowds but still want to be near the sea & mountains.

This was our second stay in the apartment - the first time via Airbnb. The apartment is lovely with everything you need for a good holiday including air-conditioning in the bedrooms for summer and a log stove for winter. The apartment is on the first floor so everyone in your party needs to be able to cope with a flight of stairs. You can get there by driving from the airport, taking the car on the ferry from Piraeus or on foot via the 'Cat' to Poros. You could in theory manage without a car if you used taxis but I would definitely recommend hiring one. The village is very quiet with just two or three restaurants open depending on the time of year - definitely a place for a quiet retreat rather than clubbing every night! Swimming in the little harbour is close and very safe for kids - you can wade out for 20 metres before getting over waist deep. Methena town is a 15 min drive away and has bars, restaurants and shops. Cafe B@B on the harbour-side is a perfect place to start and end all trips out. Day trips to Poros, Epidavros and the longer trip to Mycenae are all worth while - just driving round Methana itself is beautiful. All in all a great apartment and great value for mony. Helen couldn't have been more helpful. If you are after a stress free, restful, holiday this is the place for you.

I travel as often as time, family and money allow. I had my first gap year after leaving university and, 30 years later, I had my second gap year travelling around NZ, Australia and SE Asia. Laos is probably my favourite place on earth, except Greece of course. Some of my best experiences have been staying in the homes of people I have met along the way.
We bought the apartment in Agios Georgios because we love Greece and wanted to spend more time there. We probably spend about 12 weeks a year there. We didn't intend to rent out but it seems such a shame to have it empty when we are not there. So I hope you enjoy our home away from home.
