North of town but it is a beautiful drive to and from town. Nice little creek right next to the house and nestled at the foot of the mountains. Very cool spot if you enjoy nature and beautiful scenery

We absolutely loved our 3-day stay at South Fork Academy! Not only is this a beautiful location, nestled in an isolated little spot beside a beautiful creek just west of Weaverville, but the house itself is a classic combination of historical, rustic beauty and modern comforts. The attention to detail that David has put into restoring this former schoolhouse is compelling, as are the numerous personal touches he has added to the house overall. On top of it, he made sure that we felt welcome with delicious and inviting treats, including a nice sampling of local beers, some incredible muffins and even some cookies! Overall, a wonderfully inviting and welcoming place to stay for a couple or small family seeking to get away from it all - truly magnificent!

So, this is all that Air BnB should be...going to a different locale altogether and getting to experience how someone else approaches life. How is the kitchen arranged? How to deal with afternoon sunlight? Where to place the washer and dryer in a small space? How to conceal the electronic equipment? How to create ambience with texture and lighting? South Fork Academy was, for us, a delightful expression of personality come to life in a former school house/tobacco warehouse. As we arrived we were momentarily distracted by the rather timeworn tableau on the front porch. As we stepped inside, however, we were enveloped by a vision of beauty and comfort that belied the exterior clutter. It took us a day or so to get the joke. The outdoor hodgepodge is actually an homage to all the mountain cabins we see with old cars and appliances strewn about. Here there was an old truck, wheelbarrows, even a vignette of a broken sink and watering cans. Believe me, it works! And the house itself is brilliantly composed for maximum well-being and convenience. The neighborhood as well had all that we needed; David recommended The Stoney Knob for dining. It was quite nearby and we enjoyed it twice. Now on to Asheville. David's property is in Weaverville and is convenient to Asheville if your really must go. We found the city crowded, short on parking, and difficult to navigate due to what seemed like the endless bisection, or trisection, of intersecting highways. The Biltmore Village proved charmless as well, sort of an outdoor mall. We did greatly enjoyed our trips to Black Mountain, Montreat, and Chimney Rock, in comparison and caught a glimpse of a few bona fide mountain farms along the way! And if you are determined to give the Vanderbilt/Cecil family your money, please acquire your tickets for Biltmore early, on line. We went three times and were repelled by the long lines. In the end, frankly, we were offended that the family does not allow a peep of anything at all if you don't fork over $90. We cannot help but compare this to the largess of the Rockefeller family in Colonial Williamsburg who made so much of that village accessible to all for free.

We were so excited to stay in this lovely old school house during our fall trip to Asheville. The cabin was well stocked with essentials and modern amenities (satellite TV, microwave, coffee maker, wifi, iron, hair dryer, and there were washer and dryer in the master bath). David was very accommodating to our ETA. He greated at the cabin ran over some quick things. The pictures do not do this place justice. It's just beautiful! There is a creek right out the master bed room window and a trail through the woods that my two boys loved to explore. The second bath room had a shower and a tub in the master. We highly recommend this cabin and will most definitely be back. During our short stay we traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway from Waynesville all the way to the Ox Creek access point where the cabin was only 5 minutes away. We explored the Biltmore Estates and then had a picnic in Chataloochee at the Great Smokey Moutain National forest where we saw a herd of Elk and Turkey. There is so much more to do. Thank you so much David for opening up your lovely cabin for us to stay in.

We arrived and were greeted by David, who made us instantly feel right at home with a personal tour of the house, and the surrounding yard. He had local wines and beers for us along with some baked goods, and even had bowls and treats for our two dogs. David had terrific information on the history of the area, excellent restaurants/cafes to check out, and even helped us pick great hikes in the nearby areas. The location was perfect - close enough to both Weaverville and Asheville, but secluded enough to give you peace and quiet in the beautiful surroundings of those amazing mountains. The house is just a few moments from the Blue Ridge Parkway, and our only regret is that we didn't stay longer to enjoy the property even more. Can not say enough great things about both David, and this wonderful house!
