À propos de ce logement

Beautiful home in quiet nature setting. Large deck with barbecue + picnic tables overlooks the Lery Marsh to the horizon. Lake St Louis, (swimming, canoeing, sunsets, campfires) 30 secs distant. Log exterior, warm wood-work inside with cathedral ceiling. Open concept 1st flr holds kitchen, living, dining, sun-room and tv zones. Nearby walks, forest trails, bike path. A fine means to combine city forays (30 minutes to downtown outside rush hour) with a relaxing country stay. Heaven.

Le logement

Montreal: Completely renovated two story home on edge of the Lery marsh (not a house or human being in sight) with access two hundred feet away to Lake St. Louis ( a widening in the St. Lawrence River) in one of the most beautiful spots in southwest Quebec. Open concept main floor with large dining and tv viewing area, solarium-like zone overlooking marsh, enormous deck (with barbecue) at back overlooking marsh, one bedroom downstairs, while the upstairs is an open-space mezzanine with a queen size bed, a bed-sofa, and its own toilet and basin. From here one looks down into the main floor living area and the galley kitchen with its fridge, microwave and propane stove. A propane fireplace, heat-exchange system, and electric baseboards ensure a comfortable temperature year round and the most pleasant of atmospheres. Though all this seems hundreds of miles out in the country, far away from the city, it is in fact just 35 minutes from the heart of downtown Montreal (as long as one travels outside rush hour) and less than that to the nearest subway station, whence it is easy by personal or family pass to quickly make one's way to all of the city's many attractions. There are quiet walking trails through the woods near the marsh house, as also extensive bicycle paths through the countryside to adjacent communities, and five minutes away is a magnificent little island with a small city owned hotel, a superb view of the St. Lawrence, a coffee shop, and more nature paths of the sort that makes one come home astounded t so much beauty is so close at hand. Thus, the marsh makes for a delightful combination of Montreal city visits (with all that means in terms of busy downtown streets, skyscrapers, and the pleasures of a near-European city) and isolated, quiet enjoyment of nature. Families cannot believe how immensely relaxing it is to come home in late afternoon for a drink on the deck , a canoe ride on the lake (canoe, paddles, and life vests are supplied), or gentle repose in Cape Cod chairs by the Lac St Louis edge to watch the nearly always superb sunsets. In winter one can wander out on the ice to the ice-fishing huts on the St. Lawrence, and for much of the year one is time and again surprised and bemused by ocean going vessels on their way to the Great Lakes or back (for what is called a lake here is in fact part of a marine thoroughfare, the St. Lawrence Seaway.)

No stays less than two nights. Pets allowed, but must not be left alone except in cage, and must not be left if they bark loudly when lonely. I bring my own two Maltese terriers when I visit the premises unless I am warned that a guest has a phobia or dislike for four-footed creatures. They are friendly and love meeting both human and canine friends, but have a hate on for large black ones--so again, do let me know.
Make music inside as loud as you wish except that it must not seep outside so that the boom-boom or whatever can be heard or felt by neighbours.
Have a fine time on the deck; but not to the point where music or loud voices irritates neighbours. Best not to talk in more than a soft conversational voice after 10 p.m. as sound is amplified and carried far by the marsh. If noise is essential despite the peaceful setting, go inside.
No smoking under any circumstances inside or outside. We do not take smokers even if they promise not to smoke--despite their best intention the smell of their clothes etc invests the house--and we have guests who are highly sensitive to the point of feeling nauseated when exposed. A $500 extra fee if we detect that smoking has occurred, as all draperies, bedding, rugs must be washed before new guests can enter.
Do not play the organ (the 1890 harmonium to be correct) unless you know how and have our permission.
Other than that, enjoy yourselves thoroughly. This is one of the most beautiful spots at which you will ever stay. (I'm still overwhelmed by it each time I go over.)

Quelle belle maison !

What an amazing experience! Walter is incredible - kind, generous, and knowledgeable. We were living the house (two teachers) for a week while our students lived with families on farms in the region. It was perfect! The area is gorgeous, the house is wonderful, and it simply couldn't have been better. Thanks so much Walter! I sincerely hope to return with my family (wife and 4 little boys) in the future!

My gf and I spent the weekend and were primarily looking for a few days of peace and quiet. What a beautiful and restful place! The is plenty of sunlight, a gorgeous view of the marsh, and you will not find a more responsive and cordial host than Walter! Everything was lovely and we highly recommend!
