Paula has a beautiful home. Great location! There are lots of fun things to do only a short walk away. Paula was kind and quick to respond to any questions we had. The fireplace and Fogo made everything that much cozier. I'd definitely recommend this place

This was my second time staying here and it was just as amazing as the first time! Close to downtown, lots of room, and the fireplace is a very nice added touch!

The house is really rustic, based on my past experiences with Airbnb. No microwave, toaster or drop coffee machine. Might not be an issue for most people, but unfortunately for me, I had brought prepared meals for my weekend because I was in workshops all day and don't have time to make a meal at lunch break. I usually book Airbnb places with kitchens because I don't like eating out all the time. Also, there were no face cloths in the bathroom (not a major issue for me, but probably should be provided if you're renting your place out). Heathers are water heaters and extremely noisy - woke me up a few times at night. Thermostat on the main floor is really high-tech and there were no instructions on how to change it - it was set at 14 degC and programmed to reset at that temp a few times a day. I gave up trying to figure it out on the first evening. Second evening, I got it after 5-10 minutes of messing around with it. Luckily, there is a separate thermostat for the bedrooms upstairs that was very simple. The drying rack and drying pad for the dishes looked really dirty. The kitchen was a bit of a mess in the cupboards. I can see some people loving this eclectic house. But the description should at least mention there are no small electrical appliances in the kitchen. I'm not upset about my stay. I think I paid too much for it based on my past experiences with other places on Airbnb. Paula was extremely quick at responding when I sent emails and really nice. I'm giving feedback to inform other people who like me might need an equipped kitchen, or prefer less rustic accommodations.

Réponse de Paula :
Airbnb and it's guests come in all forms and needs. This guest seemed to need more from our house than could normally be expected and is the first ever guest to have complaints about our place. We pride ourselves in leaving our house beautiful for our guests. I left a hand written note with lots of instructions, a bottle of wine and pre-stocked the fire before they arrived. I also showed Melanie's friend, the only one of the two of them I met, how to use the thermostat and ensured she understood before I left, and I turned the heat to 19C before I left. To be clear our house is NOT RUSTIC, it is a beautiful well kept historic house in Halifax. It has wooden floors and 9' ceilings, two bathrooms, two bedrooms with feather duvets on the beds and a well stocked, normal kitchen. We have had over 100 guests stay in our place and use our kitchen with no complaints. We cook all of our meals in this kitchen and have everything you need for your stay. We don't have a drip coffee machine but do have a french press and a kettle. We don't have a mircowave but we have a nice oven and stove and a big (clean) fridge. We clean our place to the highest standards and yes we have open cupboards so you can see our plates and jarred items but it is never messy or dirty. As for value: I think some people forget they are staying in your home. This guest paid less than $100 a night to get a two bedroom, two bathroom house with a wood stove and parking in the north end is the best deal you could ever think of. Plus I was quick to help, showed up in less than 5 minutes when Melanie's friend couldn't find the key in the mailbox and responded to her needs at all times of the night. Our house is great space, we have amazing plants and big windows and books from all over the world, and a woodstove and old wooden floors. It is our favourite place in the world to hang out and we love welcoming guests into it.

I had a great stay at Paula's place, complete with adorable cat. It's a very cozy house in a great part of Halifax, and everything works exactly as it should. I didn't get to meet Paula, but getting the keys and getting in was no problem. When we accidentally locked ourselves out she was very on-the-ball and had a friend let us back in to the house in no time at all.

I am a freelance advertiser living in working in beautiful Nova Scotia with my partner Peter. We love dinner parties, brewing beer, living near the ocean and knowing our neighbours. We are pretty easy going and social. We've spent many nights at other airbnb's and we are excited to have a place to offer now.
Our great apartment in the North End of Halifax is available as the entire place or as a shared space (guest room). We are happy to show people around, go for drinks and hang out, or happy to give people their space.
We loved to travel and have managed to work our way pretty far and wide across the world so we are super happy to have guests from everywhere. Peter is half German (and speaks enough German to hold a conversation) and I have a very special spot in my heart for South Africans (as I used to live there). We are both sailors and adventure seekers and can point you in the right direction for lots of fun things for any ages in halifax.
Come stay with us!
We will even pick you up (sort of like enterprise, but better) from the airport/bus station/train station/parent's basement. Free if your staying 3 nights or more, other wise there is a fee to cover the gas.
