Little jewel of an apartment, close to historic heart of Porto. In a quiet street, near public transport. Newly renovated, tastefully furnished. Hall; sitting room + dining area; double bedroom; kitchen + laundry; bathroom with shower, basin, wc.
This is a little jewel of an apartment, close to the historic heart of Porto. It is completely renovated, and tastefully furnished with pieces individually commissioned from a Portuguese craftsman, original paintings and prints. There is a big L-shaped open plan sitting room with dining area and kitchen; a double bedroom; and bathroom with walk-in shower and wc. A small balcony opens from the sitting room, with a view over the city to the sea. The kitchen area has sun in the morning, while the sitting room, with a distant view of the sea, has sun from early afternoon until it sets. The name of the street, Rua do Monte Alegre, means Mount of Happiness.
The apartment is fully equipped with kitchen and laundry appliances, china, cutlery, pots and pans, bed linen, towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hair dryer… and so on. You only need to bring your toothbrush!
There is no noise from traffic. In the morning a cock crows in someone’s garden, and in the evening you may hear a dog or two barking as its owner comes home. Enjoy walking in the streets around the apartment, looking at tiled houses in the Portuguese style, historical buildings and public gardens.
Supermarkets and locally owned shops are within a few minutes’ walk from the apartment, along with medium priced restaurants, and a swimming pool with gymnasium. Buses and metro within easy walking distance get you to the historic centre of Porto in about ten minutes. There is easy access from the airport. The River Douro is not far away, and then come Porto’s town beaches and cafes on the promenades overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Échanges avec les voyageurs
While you are here, I will be in my other apartment and can help you with any questions. I will give you contact details for a friend who can help you if I am out of town.
My friend Antonio Borges can meet you at the airport and drive you directly to the apartment. This costs €30.
Just look after the apartment as you would your own place. There is no need to wash bed linen and towels before you leave. I will look after the laundry and general cleaning.
Si vous annulez jusqu'à 24 heures avant le voyage, vous recevez un remboursement intégral. En cas d'annulation au cours des 24 heures précédant le voyage, la première nuit n'est pas remboursable.

I was born and married in New Zealand, and lived with my historian husband many years in London where our son was born, working as a teacher and bibliographer. I spent eleven years in St Petersburg, at first working on a replica ship building project with my husband; after his death there, I stayed on to teach English and write. In 2009 I settled in Porto, and am absolutely pleased to be living here. I write a lot, read, paint, renovate furniture, cook, entertain friends, and enjoy local life. I read mainly modern literature, history, anthropology and art history - my favourite artists these days are Matisse, Cezanne and Klee. I am an absentee host because I let my apartment when I am not using it, either when travelling, or when using my other apartment in Porto. However I plan meticulously so that guests will have everything they need to feel welcome and enjoy their stay in this lovely apartment. It is calm, quiet and full of light, and yet minutes away from the metro and local station. You are in the historic heart of the city in less than fifteen minutes.
