I traveled to Cayo District with a friend and 2 small children. I decided on Moe's Place because of the semi remote location and was very please when I arrived. Thelma and James were great hosts and helped us plan our stay. They offered delicious breakfast for about $6 USD and dinner for $8, which was very convenient for us since we were only there for 2 days. We had a great time and regret not staying longer.

If you are adventuresome and like to camp and rough it a little, this is a perfect place. If you need hotels with plenty of amenities it us not for you. There are lots of activities and adventures in the area, so it could be a nice place to stay for a few days, and go adventure.

We tend to attract adventurous people , who are looking for cost effective accommodation. We are not aware that during your overnight stay here you opted out for our riverside rustic camping facility which we do have available for our more adventurous guests, As i understood it you booked a studio cabin of which you were given a key. Keys would not have been issued to you if you were as you put it camping and roughing it, we would have issued you with a tent at the riverside instead. Are you sure you read and seen the internal cabin pictures as to what we have to offer guests before you booked with us ? We have checked with our staff and have found no evidence that you were camping here. We also are not sure how you come about to roughing it ? a brand new mattress was provided on your bed prior to your arrival, including clean sheets and pillows including cutlery, plates, a fridge, large fan, bed ,rugs. bedside lamp, and soft furnishings just as our photos depicts. your option for self catering was clearly depicted in our description, We can only assume that you did not consume the facilities that were provided under those circumstances we are unable to pinpoint exactly were you were roughing it. In addition to this the accommodation description we provide clearly states the obvious. We are not a hotel at all, and we are proud of our services that provide a cost effective experience to our guests which perhaps is what attracted you to make the booking in the first instance. We also have a riverside communal area attached to our property. It was not possible for you to view this because you were an overnight stayer who came towards into the evening unable exploring the rest of the grounds which spans 5 acres of lush flora and fauna and a well maintained grounds. We also do a wide range of adventure activities at Moe's Place at a cost that is well below the national average in the Belize tour guide tariff a matter of which we are proud of. Due to your overnight stay here it was not physically possible for you to absorb the facilities that we have available. We are fully aware that because our nightly rates are considered reasonable to say the very least, there is a tendency for travelers who decide to abort high end previous accommodation and come here expecting a champagne reception on a nightly tariff paid to us that would barley cover their taxes paid to the previous high end accommodation of which the traveler has aborted. The notion that you have compared Moe's Place with an hotel are your words and not ours. Most travelers who take the time to carefully read what we have to offer would quite obviously realize that we are not a hotel a matter of which we are proud of. As a result of this any savings that we make we always pass that saving on to the travelling guest consumer by way of reducing our rates. In our experience It is not every traveler who are involved in the hotel culture that desires a hotel accommodation experience everywhere they go. So the idea of you stating the obvious is already self explanatory embedded in our property description. Moe's Place due to our geography is a very nice place to stay, a matter of which we have on several occasions and still do facilitate guests of which some are household names who are fully conversant with hotels and high end establishments, who come to Moe's Place time and time again. There is no better accolade than to have returning guests come back to Moe's Place to enjoy the peace and tranquility that we provide. We also on request provide continental breakfast, lunch and evening meals. None of which you were interested in. Due to the fact that we provide cooking facilities in our studio cabins for your convenience as i understand it you chose to buy your provisions at the shop the night you arrived for your consumption. I do not recall any hotel allowing food to be cooked by a guest in the hotel establishment. In addition to this we have many fruit trees that blossom and sometimes the tiny flowering heads blow into the open window of your cabin. This i understand was used to refer to as dust. We are in the countryside on the edge of San Ignacio, of course there are going to be flowers and buds falling of trees. Our studio cabins are cleaned daily, and we can not be held responsible for an act of nature as described above. We of course wish you all the best in your future intentions of joining the Belizean community, perhaps when you do you may just have a much better command of Caribbean Belizean life.

Thelma and James were really great to talk to, and their property is really beautiful with nice furnishings. I'd recommend it as a place to stay if you're looking for a relaxing stay, but beware that it's far away from San Ignacio. Other than that, it is an amazing place to stay. Specifics on being far away: The bus is relatively infrequent and doesn't run at all on Sundays. Taxis from San Ignacio will run you $25 BZE. If you are coming or going before 6pm, you can catch the ferry across the river for $1 BZE and then get a cheaper taxi on the other side. It's not impossible to get back and forth, but it will be expensive if you aren't ready for it. If you've got a rental car, or are ready for the trek, absolutely stay here though.

James and Thelma's cabins are the ideal place to stay if you want a few days away from the hustle and bustle, surrounded by nature. On arrival we got the bus from San Ignacio to Santa familia, getting off at "Moe's cabins", only 20mins ($2) away. The location is beautiful, relaxing and you get a real authentic experience of rural Belize. The cabin is basic but has a comfortable bed and electric hob so simple meals can be cooked. It was also pretty bug proof! The nearest shop is 5mins walk away. The WiFi was patchy but I think this is to be expected in the location. The bathroom is clean though cold showers only and it is a bit of a walk if needed in the night. We reached San Ignacio by getting the boat across the river ($1) and walking. This took about 40mins. Cahal pech was an hour walk. You can also swim in the river near the house. We stayed 3 nights here and had a fantastic time. We didn't do any tours due to the prices but I think Thelma and James have plans in the future to help arrange these for better prices. They also said they can cook meals on request for an extra price.

Thank you so much for your review, just to let you know for the future that some of the cabins are a bit more" upmarket" with a fridge and larger space but cost a bit more but still value for money, so we hope you can have one next time to enjoy., Best wishes and Bon Voyage

Moe's place is clean & a super value with convenient access to San Ignacio, Xunantunich, Caracol, and Mountain Pine Ridge. The farmer's market in San Ignacio is the place to buy fruit, veggies, and spices. Ask around town for fresh tortillas, and there is another tortilla place a mile towards Santa Familia on the Bullet Falls road. Look for the foot ferry across the Mopan 1/4 mile towards San Familia and you can walk a mile into town or take a taxi that last mile.

This was our favorite place we stayed our 17 days. It was very tranquil and relaxing. We rented a car and getting to and from and exploring the cayo district was amazing! They have a wonderful property and it's so beautiful! We wished we would have had longer there

Great location near San Ignacio (about 10-15 minutes away). The property is beautiful and full of wildlife. We saw butterflies and iguanas on the property, and could hear howler monkeys in the distance. The living situation was sweet, simple, and just enough comfort. The bathrooms are shared and not connected to the rooms, so keep that in mind if you require easy bathroom accessibility. I would recommend having a rented car but the public bus does run by the property every few hours and takes you directly to San Ignacio. We didn't rent a car and were able to get around just fine. But if you want to accomplish a lot in a short period of time, a rental car might be your best option. I recommend this location for anyone who wants an authentic experience in Belize and wants to make life long friends with their hosts.
