This house is fantastically located just a few blocks from JHU Homewood campus. We are 2 blocks from the JHU shuttle stops on 27th St and 8 blocks from the ones on 33rd St. A public bus stop is nearby on Charles and St Paul St's.

Le logement

We have several rooms available in our shared house. 2 full shared baths are available as well as a nice kitchen, separate dining room, living room, laundry, backyard and patio.

The house was recently renovated and restored throughout. There are many unique touches such as original fireplaces (the house is over 100 years old), hardwood floors throughout etc. But we also have modern touches like central AC and a dishwasher.

We are conveniently located only 2 blocks from JHU shuttle stops and City public transit stops.

A major chain grocery store is 2 blocks away, with eateries within the same distance.

There are some long-term guests in the house, and guests vary regularly. Most of our guests tend to be graduate students and professionals.

You can always stay shorter than the minimum stay (1 weekend, etc). The fee for the minimum stay still applies.

Accès des voyageurs

All guests have access to the kitchen, both baths, living room with TV and DVD (no cable), Internet, laundry, and the back yard!

Échanges avec les voyageurs

I don't live in the house. You are welcome to contact me or my company with any concerns.
Please direct all emergency maintenance issues such as power outages, loss of heat, lost keys, etc to (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). I have a call center to help make sure you reach someone 24/7!

Autres remarques

Because your stay may be a short one (less than one year) we keep it on the local market. We never know if a guest will come through Airbnb or locally. We will show the room during your stay, but will notify you in advance of any such showings. We may also send notification of showing another bedroom in the house. Guests often extend their stays, or reschedule, and we can never know for sure which rooms will be available for that prospective guest, so we show them all possible choices. We will accompany any visitors every time. You don't need to do anything special except for putting away things you consider personal. We know that this is an inconvenience. We don't know any other way. Not everyone visits through Airbnb, but we wish they would! :)

Please fill out your whole profile including verifications before booking. We will ask you to do so if you have not. This will save some time, and will help you find accommodation faster, even if you aren't booking with us. The other guests in the house want to know that everyone is on the level.

We are very easy-going, but some things just gotta be said so we all have an awesome experience:

No smoking inside. I like cigars and I won't judge you for your 420. Just not inside. dispose of your butts safely.
No pets.

Additional guests are not permitted without prior arrangement. We have not turned anyone down yet, but we like to know who is coming and going in the house and when for your safety. Your guest(s) must sleep in your room unless we agree otherwise in advance.

Price includes reasonable regular general cleaning of the shared spaces. You must take care of your own messes including post-cooking cleanup and your bedroom.
No loud music, it carries to the neighboring rooms.
Small Dinner/Cocktail parties are welcome with advanced notice and agreement.

Please close windows anytime the heat is on and when you are not home. We will provide window AC units for each bedroom. Please do not leave these units on when you are not at home to enjoy them. They can become expensive to run.

You'll need your own groceries. We have provided some staples like rice, lentils etc, but for the most part you're on your own for meals.

Please wash your own towels and bed-linens during your stay, and before you leave. The linens will be clean when you arrive.

Communication is crucial. Tell me what you need or want or what is bothering you. If you're reasonable like me, we'll fix it together and make it awesome!

1. Cleaning up after yourself: With a shared home such as this, it becomes imperative that everyone do their part and not leave messes for others. When you don't wash your dishes, no one else can use them and/or the sink must be emptied before use, etc. Please clean up after yourself at all times, whether opening some mail, making dinner, or just having some coffee. When you do so you are being considerate to all the other guests in the house.
I do it too: forget to clean up right away. It happens. Just come back and get it later.

2. Coasters: Please use coasters or something under your drink on all furniture. See those rings? They'll never come out. Seriously, we've got about 20 coasters. Maybe we've got a coaster problem....

3. Pitch-in: There are a lot of things in the house that get dirty or otherwise need to be done, where it really isn't anyone's responsibility in particular. This can be a dirty table after a group meal, or maybe the trash is full, or the recycling needs to go out. Please take a moment each day and do one thing to help out. If everyone pitches in, the place stays pretty awesome for everyone.

4. Laundry: Try to move your laundry forward in the wash/dry process so that the next person can do the same quickly. If you leave things in either the wash or dryer, don't be surprised if someone moves it aside. It's common courtesy to move it forward and get out of the way.

5. Fridge space: The space in the refrigerator is limited. Please only buy what you need for a short time. Please don't stock up on bulk items or buy a month's worth of food and store it in there etc. Please keep extra beverage bottles out of the fridge and simply replenish what you use as you go. The same goes for the freezer. (Side note, no storage of food in the room please. It can lead to pests :)

6. Bathroom: There's a lever for the shower. Please return it to the bath position. Otherwise when the next person comes in, they get cold water on their head when they lean down to turn on the water. Wipe up the sink when you're done.

7. Just generally be considerate: Will someone have to move your dishes to use the sink? Will they need to wipe up crumbs to have a clean counter to do food prep? Did you just compress the trash in the can instead of taking it out just once? (See #3)

Remember that you are living with others, and they are living with you. There isn't a daily housekeeper (you didn't think this was a hotel did you? :)) so remember that no one is picking up your towels or taking out your trash, unless they are being very, very kind.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

Before you leave, I have to ask you to do a few things and plan accordingly based on your travel schedule. I call this my version of the "Campsite Rule."

1. Please clean up the room and take out any trash. You can find cleaning towelettes in the kitchen and/or basement, and the vacuum is normally kept on the 3rd floor.

2. Please wash and dry your bed linens and towels (if provided) and at a minimum, return them to your room.

3. Please throw out any perishable/opened food that you may have left in the fridge or elsewhere.

4. If you are leaving any toiletries behind, please leave them in the bathroom and label them for "free to use by anyone" or something similar so that others know they can use these items if they want.

5. If you were provided a key lock-box combo upon arrival, please return the keys to the same lock-box. If you were not provided a combo, please contact me for instructions on where to leave keys.

Thank you and safe journey!

Brett's place is a large and cozy house at about one mile from the East Gate of Johns Hopkins University. The neighborhood is pretty quiet and green, and ideally close to the bus lines leading downtown - especially the free Charm City Circulator, which every traveler not equipped with a car should know. Baltimore has the reputation of being a dangerous city, but the area around the house (especially north) is safe enough for walking home in the night with no particular issue. A few people live in the house, some on a long term stay, while others are temporary visitors. The "permanent" residents are cool and polite people, who introduced me to the city and their life, and who gave me many tips about living in the city. However, there is a tendency not to share the common spaces of the house, which makes it a very silent place. You might feel surprised when you arrive, but you'll always be welcome if you knock at somebody's door. I had a few interactions with Brett, and a few with John, his colleague in managing the place. Both of them were helpful and kind with me. They were responsive before I arrived, but during my stay we had a couple of problems in communication which caused me some troubles. With a little improvement on that side, I would have had an even nicer stay.

I really enjoyed the Brett's house. Clean, quiet, big and close to supermarket and public transportation stop. The neighborhood is nice too. I only would like to find a bathroom on 3rd floor, but the other things in the house, like kitchen and laundry are well equipped and the internet is good. :)

This place is great for students going to JHU. Few blocks from college and 10 minutes from downtown.

I definitely enjoyed my stay at Brett's listing- the room was large, bright, and clean, which made for a very comfortable experience, and the house was located near to grocery stores and restaurants as well as bus, shuttle, and circulator stops. I felt like I had everything I needed while staying in this room.

Absolutely! I'm definitely sorry about that miscommunication. Have already implemented solutions to the initial key exchange and check-in as a result. Thanks, Laura!

Creative, business-oriented, quiet, respectful, resourceful. I work hard so I like to take it easy when I get the chance. I work full-time and run my own business, in addition to my other interests such as found art, and hiking.
