The Byre, a three hundred year old barn, is nestled amongst hills and fields. and is the perfect "get away from it all" cottage. With astounding views, it was once part of the famous Baskerville Estate. Beautifully restored , it has a wealth of oak timbers and flagged floors throughout. There's a superb oak framed garden room overlooking the garden and pastures, a fabulous hand made Welsh walnut bed with gorgeous blankets, and a great log burner for when you just want to be cosy.
Winter specials available! Contact me for details.
The Byre is a unique rural escape just two miles from Hay on Wye, built from local Welsh oak over three hundred years ago. When we moved to the farm twenty five years ago it was home to our small herd of Anglo Nubian goats. Traditionally it would have housed cattle. Now it's a super cosy retreat, comfortable, warm and filled with good things for you to enjoy!
From The Byre you can see the remains of woodland where the oaks were felled to build the farm. The valley is rich in wildlife- badgers, foxes, barn owls, red kites and buzzards. Below the farm a stream travels down towards
the river Wye. The Byre has a private garden for you to enjoy this beautiful valley.
There is a large car parking area just for you. In the shed you'll find lots of
logs from our wood, a barbecue and a small freezer.
The bird feeders are kept filled throughout the year. You will see an incredible variety of birds throughout your stay. As you relax in the garden you can expect to hear the stream in our fields below you.
Our fantastic welcome pack with Steve's home made bread, fresh from the oven, our own freshly laid eggs, cereals, juice, fresh fruit, local bacon, milk, teas and coffee, as well as home made jams and marmalade, means that you will have everything you need for that all important breakfast to set you up for the day- whether you're aiming to explore Hay on Wye's great shops and castle or looking for something more adventurous, such as hiring a canoe, mountain bike or horse. The scenery is simply superb.
On your arrival we can offer lots of advice about things to enjoy locally, including great places to eat. But we also respect your privacy and know that you are probably looking forward to peace and quiet...and we promise you that you will definitely unwind whilst staying in The Byre!
Coming in the winter or cooler months? No problem. On your arrival the log stove will be lit, the lights will be low and The Byre will be wonderfully cosy for you.
Throughout December mulled wine will be served to you when you arrive and The Byre will be dressed for Christmas. But we are already booked for the entire Christmas and new year period!

We know the area very well, having lived here for over twenty four years, and we are always on hand to offer advice, answer any questions or help in any way. The Byre has guide books and lots of suggestions for things to do and places to eat! However we will always respect your privacy too. We always greet our guests and ask you in advance to let us know what time you expect to arrive so we can be sure to be here. Arrivals are from 3pm. There's always Michele's home made lemon drizzle cake waiting for you as well as Steve's fabulous home made bread fresh from the oven. . At Christmas time we welcome you with a glass of something special and lots of extra treats. But we get booked up early for that...
We have horses, sheep, hens, ducks, cats and dogs. You are welcome to meet them if you wish. The hens often wander near to the Byre. The cats will often pass by on their way to breakfast in our house. There are many wild birds feeding very close to the Byre as well as the odd pheasant or two. The horses' stables are just in the next yard- you are welcome to pat them or share the meaning of life but check with us first. If you aren't used to horses they can seem alarmingly large close up!
This is a farming neighbourhood so you might hear the odd tractor in the distance.
We provide crisp bed linen and all towels as well as shampoo and shower gel, kitchen essentials such as washing up liquid, tea towels, kitchen foil etc as well as our famous welcome pack. There's a barbecue and we can supply charcoal, kindling, logs etc.
We see The Byre as an extension of our home. It was created with a great deal of love and attention to detail. We ask you to respect it as if it was your home. We find it upsetting when some guests (thankfully not many!) forget to take care of The Byre. Please don't drink wine on the bed. We ask you to leave everything that can be recycled in the shed provided. Please wash up all pots on departure and put away.
À partir du 20 décembre 2017 - 27 décembre 2017, la durée minimum de séjour est de 3 nuits.
I have lived in this wonderful place with my husband Steve and our family of animals for twenty five years. We love the outdoor life- be it horse riding, walking, kayaking or cycling. We look forward to sharing our part of the world with you and for making your stay magical.
