Description

Le logement

Os Figueiros is a lovingly restored bastide farmhouse located in the tiny hamlet of Canezac, in the midi-pyrenees region of South West France. On arrival in our courtyard you are immediately transported into a beautiful, rustic world, far away from modern life.

Our rooms are furnished in a country-style with wooden floors, antique furniture, cosy beds and full bookshelves. Step out of your room on to the rose and vine-strewn balcony and look out over our ancient courtyard where you can feast on local and homegrown produce around our farmhouse table, or take a picnic into the gardens. Afterwards have a swing in a hammock under the fig trees.

Accès des voyageurs

There are 8 individual bedrooms at Os Figueiros, each sleeping 2 or more people. You also have various areas for relaxing and lounging such as on the balcony, in the courtyard and in the garden. You have 2 large, well equipped kitchens for your sole use - one has space for 20+ people to eat together and a lounge area too. There is another seperate sitting room with sofas and armchairs for everyone. The house comes with 4 bathrooms, and 2 seperate toilets.

But when you stay here you get so much more than this. Go on a journey back in time and discover our ancient buildings. The beautiful vaulted barn, where you are welcome to practice meditation, dance or just play. Find the Dovecote for a peep out of the window to spot someone at work in the open barn, or take a stroll out into the meadow where wild flowers grow alongside our vegetables.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

We will always be on hand if you need us, with at least one of us usually staying on site, either in the dovecote or another out-house. We are very happy to help in planning trips and outtings and to give advice on the local area and the best restaurants and cafes around. If however you want to be left to your own devices that is also fine. It's up to you!

Le quartier

A walker’s paradise, you can access Le Grand Rondonee (the French network of footpaths) just a 15 minute walk from our door, and we are moments from forests, fields and valleys where you can roam free in nature. We are close to the river, with beautiful swimming spots and its grassy banks for cooling off (if you’re feeling daring take one of our canoes down with you.) You’ll find many attractive villages and towns nearby with traditional markets, restaurants and cafes. The nearest big town to us is Albi; a world heritage site and home to the Toulouse Lautrec museum and the ancient cathedral. We are very happy to help with planning walks, outings and where to eat out when you visit.

Transports

Os Figueiros is located in the Tarn department in the Midi Pyrenees region of south west France, about 65 miles north east of Toulouse, 25 miles north of Albi. Travel connections are good.
Airports and Train:
Toulouse and Rodez airports are the most convenient and nearest with train connections and car hire available at both.
From both you can take a train (1.5 hr journey) to Carmaux, (20 min drive from us) where we will meet you or you can take a taxi to Os Figueiros.

Travelling by road:
There are 2 major motorways you can take from northern France, A20 or A75.

Autres remarques

Os Figueiros can sleep up to 20 guests.

There is a 5 night minimum stay in this property.

As we organise various retreats and courses at Os Figueiros, it is much more likely that the house will be available for your stay if you book at least 3 months in advance.

Règlement intérieur

There is a no smoking policiy in all inside spaces at Os Figueiros. Smoking is allowed outside in the courtyard and gardens (please use an ashtray).

We really enjoyed our too-brief stay in David's lovely old house. It is a wonderful building, full of age and character, and the courtyard is just as nice as the pictures show. Yes, it's a little dusty and cobwebby around the edges, but somehow that just adds to its charm. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and we could quite easily have stayed for much longer if work hadn't called us on our way. We asked David about dinner when we booked, and he suggested that we contribute a dish and a bottle or two of wine towards the group meal that was planned for that night. He had a few friends staying, so we all did just that and had a very convivial evening eating and chatting (and drinking wine!) around the big table in the courtyard. Breakfast was a plentiful help yourself deal, as was tea and coffee at any time. There's a huge kitchen that you can use to cook for yourself whenever you like. We found it really hard to drag ourselves away - it's one of those out-of-time kind of places where it is easy to relax. We couldn't connect to the wifi to get connected whilst we were there, but it didn't matter for such a brief stay. If you want somewhere laid back, relaxed and full of character, this is the place to stay - we'd love to re-visit someday.

I love being in nature, gardening, building and restoring where i live . In the spring and summer i enjoy swimming in the nearby river, working outside, lazing around and relaxing in my courtyard with friends under the stars. I am very easy going and open to new experiences and people and try not to take myself too seriously. I am interested in alternative lifestyles and ways of being, have had lots of adventures and worked as a cranial osteopath for 25 years..
