3 out 5 stars. I hate to give Marcie's property a lukewarm review because she was a great host and this property will meet people's needs if they know a bit more. But we have been doing rural Virginia weekends for 8 years and this one was one of the few that didn't meet our expectations. Read on for more information to supplement the info provided to help you decide this is the place for you. Surrounding property. We have kids 9, 9 and 4 and love to let them run around. The animals were a huge hit and Marcie's 8 year old daughter became an instant friend. There is an above ground pool too - kids swam we watched. But as parents we saw a yard not cared for with grass out of control and toys and cages scattered around the property. We had to encroach on the neighbors land to find a place to play catch. There wasn't really a place outside where adults could feel comfortable to sit and relax. The front porch is nice, but with 2 dead trees, an old Christmas tree, and grass that hadn't been mowed in several weeks, it took away from the experience. House. You have to know that Marcie and herdaughter sleep in a shed next to the property while you are there. That was odd for us as it made us feel we were taking away their home. The house is 3 bd 1 bath. You get the spare bedroom and her daughters room, which has 3 beds not just two. House was clean but very cluttered, like the outside. Overall I would call it "rustic" more than beautiful. Towels and sheets were on the low end of quality. Kitchen had everything needed but most cupboards are pretty cluttered which makes it hard to find things. She did label drawers which was nice. Host: High marks for Marcie here - easy to deal with and very helpful. Love her "house rules"..."respectful". That is part of what sold us and was true. Wish wifi worked but she certainly tried. Overall, this is a $125-150 a night property that gives your city-kids great exposure to farm animals. I would recommend just renting it as a true "room in a house" and don't give the guests the impression that they have the place to themselves.

What can I say? That we told Bill that it had just stopped raining that afternoon, after almost three and a half weeks straight of Lots of rain? Did it not rain in D. C., too?? So, yes the yard needed attention, but I guess he forgot that part. Also, the listing does say private room, but we GAVE him the whole house, which is a large house, for the weekend, at a great price, even let him bring his puppy, at no charge. and he complained?? Maybe it is not perfect, but we call it home, and even though, his listing said that he was looking for a home atmosphere, having the whole home, being able to relax for a weekend out here in this beautiful area, away from the city, just did not happen for him. Could my place have been better? Sure, there is always room for improvement(it is an old house( 106 years old, it better be a bit rustic!!), but that is why I love it!). Am I perfect, no and thank God. I certainly looked the other way when I found out that he let his kids open my rabbit hutches without permission, and swim in my pool without permission....that being said, I do wonder if he would have found fault with other things , if there were not these to focus on. I wish that he could have relaxed a little more, enjoyed being away from city, looked at it as an adventure, and enjoyed the airbnb experience(which is known for people opening their homes) with us more. Also, more communication before booking or coming would have been helpful.

Marcie's house is in rural Virginia, a short drive from James Madison's Montpelier and providing easy access to Shenandoah National Park. It is beautiful countryside and really comes alive in the fall especially. The house is very peaceful and set back off a quiet road. It is a comfortable family home with rabbits, chickens, a rooster, dog, great heating and hot water system, and a lovely open bright eat-in kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need to make meals and the lounge room comfortable for sitting and chatting. The host gave good directions to her house and made us feel welcome by having a vast, delicious, and part healthy/part indulgent variety of breakfast foods available, and even leaving wine glasses with chocolates out for our group of ladies! The beds were nicely made and the towels all ready for us.

My father and I had an amazing stay at Marcie's house. The place is very big and clean and located in the peaceful countryside. It took us some time to find it and we arrived quite late. Though Marcie was great helping navigating us to the house and also helped with all kinds of recommendations and advice. She made us feel at home at any time, would definitely stay there again, thanks!
