This grade 2 listed barn conversion lies at the foot of Dartmoor, but within a few minutes walk of town. Rebuilt from a ruin using many local materials, this is now a comfortable high-end holiday home providing three large en-suite bedrooms and spacious living area.

Le logement

The Tithe Barn at Headborough is a luxury family house extending to nearly 2000 sq ft (200 sq m). It comprises a large open plan living space, opening onto a patio courtyard, and three spacious bedrooms, all with en suites. There is also a utility/laundry room and a games room with table tennis and a pool table..

The living area comprises the open-plan kitchen/dining area and the sitting area. The flooring is made up of porcelain tiles with underfloor heating.

The bright and modern kitchen is well equipped with a Brittania range cooker which has a six burner gas hob and two electric ovens. There is a microwave; an electric kettle; a toaster; a Nespresso machine; and a large fridge-freezer. Filtered water is provided directly from a Brita water tap. For your convenience, we provide plenty of saucepans, utensils, cooking and baking equipment which will allow you to cook Sunday roasts and bake at your leisure, and there is a standard sized dishwasher to help you clear up afterwards. There is plenty of cupboard space for storage.

The dining area has a large table and eight chairs (more chairs are available for larger groups). There is a large selection of crockery and glassware.

In the sitting area, there are two three seater comfortable sofas and two chairs which surround a large coffee table and a built-in log effect gas fire. For your entertainment, there is 46" HD television with satellite channels and recorder. The house has wifi throughout.

Opening out the bi-fold doors, you walk from the house into the courtyard, which has a large hardwood table with eight chairs and parasol, and a gas fired barbeque.

The fully equipped laundry room has a sink, washing machine, tumble dryer and full drying facilities. There is an attached games room with a table tennis table, a pool/snooker table, and a good cross-trainer.

Bedroom 1 is the largest of the bedrooms; it has a rustic oak floor and is light and airy due to its beautiful vaulted ceiling with exposed oak beams. It has full height french doors (with Juliet safety glass, of course) which gives a view over the pond and the orchard, and of the Ashburton terrace. It has a super-king sized zip-and-link bed that can be split into two singles, and two bedside tables. Storage is available in a chest of drawers and in a fitted wardrobe, which also has shelves. There are two restored arts and crafts chairs. The en-suite is underfloor heated and comprises a large bath, separate shower, two basins and WC behind a further door.

Bedroom 2 is also very spacious. Like the other bedroom, it also has a rustic oak floor and vaulted ceiling with exposed oak beams. The room comprises king sized bed, a chest of drawers and a fitted wardrobe with shelving. There is a comfortable armchair where you may relax and read a book whilst enjoying the afternoon sun coming through the south facing windows. The en-suite is underfloor heated and comprises a large bath with overhead shower, a basin and WC.

Bedroom 3 is situated on the ground floor. It comprises a super-king sized zip-and-link bed that can be split into two singles, two bedside tables, a chest of drawers and hanging space. It also has a big arm chair in which to sit and relax. The french doors can be opened out onto the patio area. This room is suitable for mobility restricted or wheelchair bound guests, as it has wide doorways and the en-suite is set out as a wetroom with shower, basin and WC.

All bedrooms are provided with linens and towels. There are hair dryers and in each room, and each en-suite has shaving points.

Accès des voyageurs

You will have exclusive access to the entire house and patio area, and access to the orchard area and fields.

There is ample on-site parking and the entrance gate can be locked for security.

Well behaved dogs will be welcomed provided that they are quiet and would interact in a friendly way with our two Labradors.

Jane and Stuart will be available in the nearby farmhouse at most times, to answer questions and to provide advice as required. Your privacy will be respected at all other times.

Autres remarques

You can walk into Ashburton in around five minutes from the house. There you will find excellent local shops covering most needs, including an artisan baker, butchers, greengrocers, two delicatessens, two supermarkets, etc.

There are several pubs and restaurants serving good food, several cafes and Indian and Chinese takeaways. No need to take the car...enjoy the walk!

Règlement intérieur
L'entrée dans les lieux se fait entre 16:00 et 22:00

Please try to be reasonably quiet after 22:30, as although we have no near neighbours, sound carries in the countryside.

We (and our insurance company) do not allow smoking in the house, and there must be no open fires in the courtyard area near the house. The gas-fired barbeque can be used in the area allocated on the patio, or can be moved onto a recreation area near the orchard.

Quiet, well-behaved dogs (maximum 2) are accepted by advance agreement, but must be confined to the ground floor and must not sit on furniture. Owners are expected to clear up immediately after their pet.

Our stay at The Tithe Barn was perfect. The barn is wonderful, stunningly refurbished to the highest standards, it was a warm, cosy and comfortable place to spend a winter break. All the rooms and kitchen were really nicely furnished and had all the equipment you could want. The kitchen was perfect for us as we like to cook a lot and it had everything we needed, showers were also brilliant! The area was great too, close to all we wanted to see and a short walk into the lovely town of Ashburton. Stuart and Jane were great hosts, really helpful with wells and info on walks etc, and really nice people. All in all it was a pleasure to stay there, we will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful stay at the Tithe Barn. This house is even more marvellous than the photos. The house was done to a superb standard and every detail had been thought of. Stuart and Jane were great hosts leaving treats in the house and giving great advice. The house is located in a great location for walking and is a short walk to the village which had a great variety of shops. We visited in December and it would be a superb place to visit all year round. We are definitely planning to return!

We (Stuart and Jane) have spent a good part of our married life restoring and building homes for our family; we moved to Headborough Farm in 2000, and have been restoring it and its many outbuildings since then. The Tithe Barn was the final and most challenging part of the renovation.

We both love Dartmoor for all its landscape,variety and moods, so we walk our two Labradors (Ollie and Toby) there almost every day. We both have many interests and hobbies, with Stuart being keen on photography and Jane looking after a large and productive garden providing fresh food for our house, and, when time allows, working on her pottery in another of the outbuildings that we have restored.

We have both travelled extensively and have stayed in high quality holiday homes and world-class hotels; we wanted to recreate that comfort and quality whilst creating an individual bespoke finish, using the best local craftsmen and materials. We hope you will agree that we have achieved this goal and that you will share our enthusiasm for oak and granite!
