Cathie is a great host. We were there on New Years Eve and she made us black-eyed peas her family tradition. We really like the farmstay, John taught the kids how to milk cow. A beautiful stream runs by the farm.

Thank you Ravi. We are glad you liked the farm and hope to see you again soon. Sorry you had to use a flashlight (torch) to get to the outside bathroom at night. John has fixed the auto light now. The bulbs were burned out. Glad you had the inside bathroom to use as well. Really glad you liked our family Blackeyed pea dip recipe. You are now part of our family tradition.

Our family (with an elementary and a middle schooler) enjoyed every minute of our stay at Cathie and John's farm. My kids were interested in farm animals (they wanted to raise chickens in our backyard) and we specifically searched for a real working farm with many farm animals (dogs, cats, chickens, cows, sheep and pigs), and hosts that were willing to let us be part of the farm for a few days and provide farm meals. The Willow Creek Ranch farm was the exact match. Here was our experience. 1. About the host: Cathie was very prompt and clear during our communication, and made sure we understood it was indeed a working farm with many farm animals. She also kindly accommodated our late arrival. Throughout our stay Cathie and John (and their family guests) made us feel very welcome and shared with us their farm experiences and life stories. My child just wrote an essay about the challenges farmers face today. 2. About the farm: (from the kids): we liked everything about the farm. We enjoyed entertaining the cats and dogs and milking the cows. The part that there were animals was the best! John showed us how to milk the cow by hand and by using the vacuum pump. It was very challenging but John was very kind and patient. From the milk Cathie showed us how to make cream, butter, buttermilk and ice cream, a real farm to table experience! The kids picked eggs from the chicken coop and rode the ATV (highlight of their day!) with John to deliver hays and feed to cows, sheep and pigs throughout the farm. 3. About the cabin: The cabin had a huge bedroom with a king size bed, a small room at entry with more beds, and a sitting area with dining table. We all slept very well. Bathroom was newly remodeled with washer and dryer inside. Kitchen had fridge, microwave, toaster oven, gas stove and all utensils and cookware needed. TV had DISH network and DVD player. Wifi was week/slow and no cell phone signal. We pleasantly found Brownie the cow outside the cabin fence in the morning. 4. About the meal: We pre-ordered dinner and breakfast for both days and thoroughly enjoyed Cathie's home cooking, especially the kids. They claimed it was the best food they had on vacation. Overall: Our family had a great time at the farm as it was exactly what we looked for and expected. We talked to kids about the farm animals before going (yes real life animals pee and poo and may have smells) and yes there were dust and dirt. The farm was still trying to recover from last year's sever wild fire and there were things they were trying to rebuild and improve. This is not a 5 star resort, but Cathie and John's hospitality deserves 6 stars.

Cathie made us feel very welcome. Her food was delicious and the children enjoyed all the animal activities. This is a simple farm stay for those who enjoy getting their hands dirty and mucking in.
