Description

Only 20 min. outside Hogsback, this eco-community backpackers has it all: great views, yummy food, cozy vibes and most of all, the exchange of cultural experiences makes it all a difference.

Situated in the homeland of the Xhosa people, this backpackers is peaceful, has stunning scenery and amazing hospitality. Sleep in traditional rondavels, eat free mielie pap for breakfast and enjoy the activities that are 100% owned and run by the people of Elundini.

Elundini Backpackers is an eco-friendly place. We are 90% of the grid and depend mostly on renewable energy. Electricity is generated from our solar panels. Solar geysers and our hot water donkey are warming up our water. Rain water is harvested from the roof and stored in tanks. We do not have flushing toilets, but use compost toilets instead. Our sleeping rooms are in rondavels and are build with natural materials and have thatched roofs. In the main building we use natural finishes like wood, cane and stone, all found in the area. There is no electricity in the rooms, but we give you a solar light at night. There is a central plug point to charge phones, laptops, etc.

We are an owner-run backpackers with a very individual approach. The owners live at the backpackers and are always there to assist you.

All our activities are organized by the people from our local community through their 100% self owned businesses. You can learn how to make Xhosa bread, you can go on a village tour with our local tour guide, follow Xhosa lessons or go on a mountain bike ride.
