My wife and I arrived with our two kids on the Sunday before Memorial Day. When we got inside, we were hit with a blast of hot air. The AC was set to heat. We switched it to cool. No change. We switched it to off. Still hot air. It was around 110 degrees inside. We opened all the windows to let in some fresh 90-degree air from outside. Then we noticed that the bed was unmade, meaning no one had changed the sheets used by the previous guest. I called the host and told her about the heat. "That's odd," she said. "I'll call the maintenance person." I told her about the bed. "That's odd," she said. "I'll call the housekeeper." We waited twenty minutes on the porch. When no one showed, we went out to dinner. No word from the host. After dinner, we got a hotel room downtown. The host never called. The next morning, we peeked in the window and saw that the bed still had not been made. Through AirBnB, I requested a refund from the host. More than a week later, she has not replied. She took our money for a uninhabitable rental then ignored us.

Be Aware. Not one to usually write a poor review, but I would definitely recommend avoiding this place. Although the location is great, check in was smooth and communication was good, our host failed to mention the following: 1) Shower is a mess! the shower head is hung on a bent up wire. Seriously. 2) The cold water knob in the shower was completely broken. We had to turn the hot water off, then wait, then back on, so that it wouldn't get too hot while showering 3) There is a serious mold issue in this house. If you have respiratory issues, please stay away from this place. 4) Beneath the mattress in the second bedroom, there is tons of mold. 5) The towels that our host provided were also very very old and smelled very damp. Almost as if they have not been cleaned. I am sorry, although this is a budget type of place, I do believe this place is not worth the money. It is also unsafe. Airbnb should remove this listing until the host deals with these very basic issues.

Christine's Bungalow gave me a a really nice quiet space to have just outside the city. It's only a 20 minute walk from Congress in the city so getting to work was very simple. Also Christine provided me all the information I needed for my stay and was very responsive to anything questions I had. I will definitely look to stay here again when I'm back in Austin.

Summary: Avoid this house - it needs repairs and the host is unreliable. The Bad: - The front door knob was dangling and kept falling off. - The shower's cold water knob had fallen off, so I had to take piping hot showers. - There were no towels. The host said she would drop some off at 11am, but around 7pm I sent her a message. She just stopped answering entirely so I had to use hand towels and paper towels to dry off from my showers. - All the trash cans were filled to the brim and not changed from the previous guests. I changed the trash cans myself upon arriving and again when departing. - There's no curtains in the living room so it's, uh. very... open. - The grass hasn't been mowed or kept up with in a while - There were raised nails on the back outside stairs - be careful! The Good: - Decent location/neighborhood - Fair price (until you run into the issues I did) - Smooth check-in

The charm of "rustic" and "old" wears off when you're forced to take a hot shower because the cold water tap has completely rusted off. The towels and bed sheets have seen better days, as has the smashed tv sitting in the bottom corner. No frills is one thing, no attention is another. This place is not for the faint at heart, the easy going, or a gang just trying to save a buck. Complications I won't get into on the public review, ensured our cleaning fee was refunded. The only reason the accommodations didn't "ruin" the trip was because we spent as little time as humanly possible outside of the apartment exploring lovely Austin. (Check out Barton springs pool, odduck, cheer up charlie, LA barbecue and Bouldin Creek cafe) Until the hosts pay even a modicum of attention to the property, please consider this as a hard pass.

This house was ok. First, we got it because it was a bargain price that is in a great location. Those things are probably worth it to a lot of people. The house had everything you needed - kitchen area, washing machine/dryer (plus in my book), a fine sitting area with a cool painting. The bed was great. The only big issue was the shower. The hot water valve fell off and it took some time to get fixed. We were in town for a wedding and not having a shower for the morning/afternoon of was kind of a harrowing experience. They took some time to come online but did find someone who could fix it that day, which we appreciated. That being said, even when it was fixed, there was still no cold water in the shower. I suppose a scalding hot shower is better than a freezing cold one, but having some ability to moderate temperature one way or the other would have been nice. The cold water valve just spun and didn't do anything. We did mention this to the owners, and it didn't get fixed. It was annoying, and the kind of thing that grates on you after a few days. Beyond that, the house is old (which they said) and has a musty smell to it. It isn't overwhelming, but I also didn't think it was only from being an old house - it could for sure use some renovations it seemed. Beyond that, the photos of the outside of the house didn't match the reality. The house looks dilapidated from the outside and is kind of an eye sore in the neighborhood which has many renovated our new looking homes. Like I said, this was a great bargain of a house and if you don't mind have a shower that doesn't have cold water or might break, and you don't mind an eye sore from the outside, this place is pretty great. I'm not sure we'd stay there again but it was way cheaper and in a cooler area than most hotels too.

Check to make sure that the shower is working! The shower had no running water at all for our entire stay. The owner offered to help by letting us shower at her place.
