They can get you to the appropriate hospital or other services. You bring your GSM phone and rent or purchase a SIM card. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint cell phone service are available in Cuba if you have the right phone. Check with your carrier. We recommend you download HERE MAPS onto your android cell phone. Be sure to download the Cuba map onto your phone. The app will work in Cuba even though you don't have cell service. It is a great GPS and will keep you found throughout the country and it is free. has a similar app but it costs and it works on I Phones.
The easiest an most cost effective way to communicate back home is using Cuba Messenger. It is an app available at the app stores. The cost is minimal, it includes a credit when you download that would likely cover your costs in Cuba. You can send messages, voice messages and photos. The recipient mush have the app installed to receive the messages.
The apartment is a 2nd floor walk up. The building looks great with new paint, security gates and repaired stairs. It was built as a replacement of a building that fell down in 1992. It is structurally sound you need not be concerned about structural safety, a significant problem in Old Havana.
Cuba is a third world country with occasional power blackouts and water outages. The apartment has 4 private water cisterns on the roof and emergency lighting to get you through in case of any utility shortages.

Transports

Cuba has limited transportation. Transportation has been a problem for many decades here. You will see people walking everywhere. Local bus service is spotty and very crowded. There are numerous private taxis throughout the city. Most are in pre 1959 autos and often drive prescribed routes. You will find them helpful and courteous. However few will be able to speak English. Pesos are the local currency and are different from CUC's (Cuban Convertibles) which are convertible to and from dollars and needed for many of your purchases in stores and restaurants. The use of foreign currency is discouraged but not uncommon. Private cars are available for rent and often include a guide with the service. It is estimated that less than 10% of Cubans own cars. There are government taxis usually in newer autos clearly marked as Taxis. They are expensive in comparison to other transportation and thus used mostly by tourists. There is long distance train and bus service, both stations are within walking distance of the apartment. Again these services are crowded and irregular. There are intra island flights from the air port to various Cuban destinations.

Autres remarques

Cuba is a large and diverse island unequaled in size and diversity by any other in the Caribbean. In the past few years Cuba has committed to providing a vacation experience unlike any in the Caribbean. This is a recent decision and though they are working to build the infrastructure needed many things are lacking. Tour buses are available in Old Havana to take you to many of the historical sites and popular destinations. They tend to be government operated or monitored. For a more personal experience we recommend utilizing private cars and guides who will take you at similar costs. They provide many more choices of destinations and activities, particularly on out of town trips. Rental cars are also available and are the most cost effective way to get around particularly on out of town trips. The most cost effective way to get money changed into CUC's is to use Western Union. There is a $10 transaction fee and the conversion rate is 3% for US Dollars. The exchange rate from the government varies and is about 10% and the black market is better but not equal to the Western Union Rate. The black market deals only in Dollars. There are no credit cards or ATMs in Cuba for all practical purposes. If you are concerned about carrying large sums of cash you can utilize Western Union while you are there if you have someone outside the country to send it to you.

Règlement intérieur

No Smoking in the apartment. There is a shared balcony overlooking Calle Obispo where smoking is allowed. All the materials and furnishings in the apartment are the responsibility of the guests during their stay. Laundry service is available on request. Guests are expected to leave the apartment in reasonably clean condition. Bed Linens are changed every 3rd day and towels every 2 days. The kitchen is fully operational will all the typical utensils. Please be considerate to your neighbors by minimizing noise and other disruptions.

Yamil's spot was an excellent choice to be around the center of town. Walking distance to many restaurants and bars nearby. We only stayed a night but it was very accommodating and easy to get to.

Highly, highly recommend staying here. Yamil, Julio, and the team were amazing hosts. They picked us up from the airport, helped us with a dinner reservation, helped setup tours, and were very easy to communicate with and very responsive. The apartment was also located in a very central area so we were able to walk everywhere, which was perfect for our first time in Havana. Definitely consider this place if you want to experience Havana.

This place is fantastic! This place is right off the main tourist street/walkway - called Obispo. There are tourists, and locals mingling very close by at the restaurants, cafes, and shops. You will often hear live music playing right as you walk out. The rooms are comfortable and the pictures show exactly the apartment as it is. The hosts, Yamil and his brothers are fantastic hosts. They're very friendly and hospitable. The local phone they provide was very useful to schedule taxi rides. They're great guides, I'm glad we had them pick us up from the airport and give us a tour of Havanna.
