Description
Description

A comfortable little bedroom in a 3 bed semi house with a quiet garden, within the village of Sonning Common. We are well equipped for self catering visitors, walkers and cyclists, but with easy access to Henley, Reading, Oxford and M40, junction 6.

The house is in a quiet road, a few minutes walk from the village centre, bus stops and shops. It is shared with myself and another lodger. A relaxed atmosphere within which extends out into the S.E. facing garden where there is plenty of seating and a BBQ. Your room has a work space, reasonable wifi connection. Linen and towels are provided for you. The newly fitted kitchen/diner is well equipped for all visitors who want to self cater, but I can provide muesli, milk, fruit juice, teas and coffee if required.

You have access to all rooms downstairs: the kitchen/diner, is the hub of the house but the sitting room can also be used if you wish. You are very welcome to use the garden to eat or relax in. There is a secure carport for equipment/bike storage if needed, a drive for 2 cars but also road parking.

I am usually involved with a variety of activities but should be around to greet guests, but there is a key safe if I am not in. (I will need to give you the code). There are maps and guides to the area provided in your room and I am very happy to share local information with you.

The village is situated within the South Chilterns, a great area for walking, running and cycling through woods, fields and commons, and watching the Red Kites. The village has 2 food shops, pharmacist, garage, an excellent Indian restaurant, Fish and Chip shop and Chinese take away. Villages around have good pubs, notably The Crooked Billet in Stoke Row.

It is best to have your own transport in this village. The bus service into Reading is every half hour during the day (up to about 8pm depending on the season)

We are a non-smoking house and it is too small for pets. I am used to visitors making themselves at home in the kitchen and sitting room.

I expect guests to show respect for others, keeping communal areas clean and tidy, putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher and washing up any other pots and turning down the volume after 10.30pm. Access is through the side of the house, where outdoor shoes can be left. It is expected that outdoor shoes are not worn in carpeted areas of the house.

I am a retired Tutor of Dyslexics and Yoga Teacher and became a granny last year! I have many interests, my main pleasures being gardening, sewing, arts and crafts, exhibitions, concerts, dancing and visiting friends scattered through the UK.
I am very fond of this beautiful part of the Southern Chilterns, where I can more or less walk straight out into the beech woods and the Commons, and if my knees let me, run or cycle.
My 2 sons have now left home and are both involved in the world of sport, one as a researcher and the other as a long distance cyclist. It didn't take long before I replaced them with students from abroad who come for work experience or research at a local research station. I run a relaxed easy going home where lodgers come and go as they will and their friends are often here filling the kitchen with home cooked food and laughter. I love it, they keep me young!
