Description

The Poet's Cottage is a cosy wing in an 18th century Eden Valley farmhouse.

Central village location 5 miles east of Penrith and the Lakes, perfect for walking, cycling, and/or sitting with a book in the garden, the local pub or by the fire.

The Poet's Cottage is a cosy cottage over two floors which can sleep up to four people. It forms one part of an 18th century farmhouse right in the heart of the village, with its own entrance.

The old farm door leads into a small hallway and fully-equipped kitchen with views over the garden.

Get the fire lit in the old stone fireplace in the living room for the perfect aid to recovery after a long day of exploring the local area (don't worry, it's gas, so easy and quick to turn on!). You're very welcome to use books and games as well as the TV and DAB radio.

If there are more than two of you or you're two non-bed sharing friends, we have the options of a comfortable futon and/or a sofa bed in the living room. The futon is technically a double, but we think two adults is a bit of a squeeze, so we have the single sofa bed as added back up. You can let us know ahead of your arrival which combination of options you want.

The old stone steps lead up to the bedroom, with a comfy double bed, lamps and lots of wardrobe/shelf space. The bathroom's right next door and is newly fitted with a strong shower and all essentials.

We have an off road parking stand and a garage (locked), either one of which is available for car and/or bike storage. You're welcome to use the garden any time.

We live in the rest of the farmhouse and we're keen Airbnb-ers so we are very happy to say hello, give you advice, recommendations or help. We also know that our guests come to relax and we will respect your privacy if you'd prefer to be left alone.

The Eden Valley is a little-known gem just a few miles east of the Lake District (only 20 minutes from Keswick - the heart of the North Lakes). As well as the fabulous scenery, the local farm produce ensures that there are loads of great places for food and drink, and proximity to Scotland means there is no shortage of history, from ruined castles to Neolithic stone circles.

Easy access by car (M6 junction 40 for Penrith, A1/A66 from the east, or you can drive over Hartside and the Pennines for a real adventure!) or train (Leeds-Settle-Carlisle line or Virgin London-Scotland mainline).

Our village location means there is little public transport once you get here. We know a reliable local car and van hire company, taxis are abundant and we are happy to help out with logistics if we are available/by prior arrangement - please just ask!

You might get a visit from Elsie the cat (but we can keep her out of the Poet's Cottage if you'd prefer).

Had a great weekend stay at the poets cottage, Jill was very helpful upon a somewhat late arrival and even had the fire going for us on a frosty December evening. Lovely location to get in some good walks, be it in the lakes or the valley of Eden. Smashing food at the pub opposite. A recommended stay all in all!

Was living in Singapore until Jan 2014, was then on the road for a good while, Thailand, Laos, New Zealand, Alaska, Canada, and now back "home" in the UK.

Love the outdoors - hiking, biking, running, climbing, paddling etc and delighted to now be in a place that lends itself to all these pursuits. Also very fond of a good pub.

Me and Gareth are really pleased that we're now in a place that allows us to host, as we had some great times airbnbing on our travels.
