Located on a plateau in the "Valley of Vermont," this vacation villa - originally constructed in the late 1700's and renovated in French country style in the 1940's, provides a beautiful 6 bedroom, 3 bath house on 120 acres of hay fields, wild meadows and forest. The massive kitchen/dining room is perfect for feasting with friends and family and the outdoor dining looks out over the fields at the lush Green Mountain National Forest - for which this State was named. All linens and towels are provided, including beach towels for swimming.

Though Amtrak reaches Rutland, Vermont 20 minutes away, you must have or rent a car in order to enjoy this property. Nearby attractions include stream and lake fishing (Vermont requires fishing licenses); cycling, hiking and camping; lake swimming and boat rental; golf & tennis; outlet shopping; antique shopping; farmer's markets; horseback riding; summer theaters and concert series; Vermont State Fair (Labor Day Weekend only) and historical sites.

NEW in 2013 and 2014 - this house will be available during the heating season, so for Fall colors and for skiing, this is a very good option. For skiers, Bromley is roughly 30 minutes; Stratton roughly 45 minutes; Killington roughly 60 minutes. For cross-country skiers, other options are available - please inquire. Modern heating is provided.

Four bedrooms have full or queen sized beds. Two bedrooms have double beds. No smoking or open flames on the premises.

Appliances: Washer; dryer; stove/oven (electric); coffee maker; coffee grinder; microwave; refrigerator/freezer; hand mixer; food processor; electric griddle; outdoor charcoal grill; toaster.

Guests will have access to the house, including the basement where the washer & dryer are. The barn is not locked, but use due caution if you or kids go in there. Guests will have access to the entire spread of the property.

We live in New York City and are available by phone, email and text to answer questions. But the guests will not see us during their stay. There is a caretaker just a few houses away in case of emergency.

We are situated on a glacial plateau overlooking the "Valley of Vermont." We are at the foot of Mt. Dorset, which is the very end of the Taconic Mountain Range and we look at the Green Mountain National Forest across the valley. The way the property is situated gives you a constant view of natural splendor.

You need a car to enjoy this property unless you are a really fit cyclist, in which case the cycling distances aren't too bad - you could take Amtrak to Rutland and then cycle to our house. There is a public bus running between Rutland and Manchester, which stops at the "Danby Cash Market" on Route 7. But it runs infrequently. I have never managed to catch it. There are taxis in Rutland and Manchester but they are very expensive.

The main dining/Kitchen area is ideal for entertaining. There is an outdoor cooking area just off the kitchen for which we usually use wood but you can also use charcoal. Grills are hanging on the wall of the woodshed, which is an open structure attached to the grey barn. You can't miss it.
