The Suite was originally two separate guest rooms which have been joined together with a handcrafted wooden archway. Both the bedroom and the sitting room have lofts for additional sleeping space. The Suite has its own private bathroom.
Backcountry Lodge Hakuba is a true mountain retreat located at the base of the Japanese Alps. Hidden away in a forest between the Iwatake and Tsugaike ski resorts, we offer spacious, modern rooms in a beautiful natural setting from which our guests can comfortably explore all of the opportunities for outdoor adventure found in the Hakuba Valley, experience a Japanese-level of service and hospitality, and simply enjoy their holiday to the very fullest.

You`ll have a modern, spacious and comfortable private room with its own shower and toilet. In addition, you`ll be able to enjoy the lodge`s three common areas- the Dining Room, Fireplace Lounge and Open Lounge. These are great places to chill out, chat with friends or connect to the internet.

My Japanese wife Fumie, our Golden Retriever Lani and myself are full-time year round residents at the lodge. We are happy to assist you in any way to help you make the most of your stay in the Hakuba Valley. In addition to pick up and drop off at Hakuba Station or Happo Bus Terminal, we provide shuttle service to any of the ski resorts or hot springs in the area. You also have the option of having a traditional Japanese, home cooked dinner here at the lodge (additional fee) or eating out at one of Hakuba`s many delicious restaurants each evening.
We are not a party place. The Dining Room does serve as our in-house bar in the evenings. We serve premium Japanese and local craft beers, a variety of local and international wines, and made-to-order cocktails. However, we prefer not to deal with the drama or the messiness of excessive drinking. We ask our guests to enjoy their drinks in moderation with a balance of good conversation and good food. In general, the bar will close at 11:00 pm and we expect most of our guests to retire to their rooms by this time as well.
Quite simply, we ask you to be polite, respectful and mindful of the property and the other guests. We sincerely hope that you will arrive at the lodge as guests, stay as friends and leave as part of the Backcountry Family.
Finally, we do have an indoor dog. Backcountry Lodge Hakuba would not be a good accommodation option for someone who has an allergy, an aversion or a general dislike of dogs. Our Golden Retriever Lani is one of the most gentle and mellow dogs you will ever meet. Her name is Hawaiian for "heavenly" and quite honestly she is truly angelic. However, she loves to eat. We would prefer that you do not give her human food, even when she gives you the look. You`ll know it when you see it. We have dog treats on hand if you would like to give her something. Just ask. However, we do practice moderation in this area as well. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
