Le logement

One of the house's original bedrooms, which interconnects with the rest of the house. A large bedroom with twin beds that can be joined to make a comfortable double. One door leads to an annexe room which can be used as a private living space or as an extra bedroom. The second door leads into the ensuite bathroom and a third door opens on to the inner courtyard. At the centre of the courtyard is an open pantry where breakfast is served and where you can help yourself to tea, coffee and snacks anytime. Lunch and dinner can be provided with prior notice.

Accès des voyageurs

Our guests have their own entrance to the house via the hitchka or swing room which is a great place to relax with the newspaper! There's a common lounge where books and local info are kept, and access to a computer and wifi.

Échanges avec les voyageurs

Family members stay at the house regularly and the house is fully staffed to cater to your needs.

Le quartier

Bhuj is a small town, busy by day, sleepy by night. Once a rural suburb of the walled city, our area is now typical of urban India: congested and noisy! We're located a walk or short tuk-tuk hop away from Bhuj's historical sites and shopping areas.

Tuk-tuks are available right outside the house, so getting around is easy. We can organise someone to stick with you for the whole morning or evening so you can weave around Bhuj's narrow lanes, navigating with a heritage map of the town, halting at some recommeded chai, juice and snack stops and great little shops!

Autres remarques

We can help organise your local excursions around Bhuj, the surrounding craft and textile villages, wildlife areas and historic sites of Kutch.

Règlement intérieur
L'heure d'arrivée est flexible

As this is our ancestral house, we would request guests to be sensitive to the building, it's artefacts and family members. We would like the house to be a peaceful retreat from the surrounding, bustling environment, so we request all our guests to be respectful of each other, while treating the house as a friendly, social space.

The Bhuj House is an absolute beauty! The first thing that strikes you when you enter is that it's a really authentic old Indian home that will instantly give you a sense of nostalgia. The sunlight streams beautifully through the network of branches that give cover to the courtyard and make it delightfully comfortable to sit in. The dining area allows for guests to dine together, so you get a nice community feel and get to meet a bunch of new people. The food itself is quite nice - simple, homely flavours and a filling spread. The rooms are lovely old world in design and yet afford all the modern conveniences that one would find hard to live without. Don't expect a TV here. It would ruin the ambience. Think about carrying a lovely book that you can read while sitting on the swing on a winter afternoon. Kishore or Santkumar will make the moment perfect with a lovely hot cuppa! Lastly, a word of appreciation for Kharshed, our host at the bhuj house. He is a really thoughtful, resourceful and helpful person. He is affable, willing to go an extra mile and a great conversationalist. He really made it a memorable stay for us and he became great friends with our 5 year old son! All in all, a great stay in a beautiful home with a really lovely host! Highly recommended!

We loved our time at the Bhuj House. Katie and Jehan made us very welcome and the house itself is beautiful. Katie organised a brilliant local guide for us, who ensured we made the most of our trip. Our week at the Bhuj House has definitely been the highlight of two months in India. We hope to return before too long.

Katie and Jehan Bhujwala's house was a heavenly peaceful place in the busy city of Bhuj. In fact that's Jehan's ancesters house, with a lot of charm, beautiful textiles and furnitures, giving home to a happy family and guests. There is an excellent cook, and possibility to get very tasty parsi specialities. If you ho to Bhuj, stay by Katie and Jehan - you will be more than happy. Very important: it was highly appreciated, that they were very kind not only with me, but even with my driver. Thank you Katie

Having stayed in numerous Airbnbs, on five continents, this is our #1 favorite ... worth a special trip! Kutch is a fantastic place to visit, for textiles, crafts, and desert ... but noisy, dusty, and hot, especially in June (47C on day we arrived). The Bhujwalla house is the perfect base for exploring: a lovingly restored Parsi family home, and a peaceful, pleasant refuge for even the most tired or jaded traveler. Hosts and staff are exceedingly helpful in providing chai, cool drinks, excellent food, travel advice ... and they went well beyond the call of duty in making us feel comfortable and accommodating our particular needs. Truly a home away from home ... highly recommended as a side trip for any visitor to India.

Kharshed is the caretaker of Bhuj House and of the guests and he excels at his job. The atmosphere at Bhuj House is serene and other-worldly. When you step in the old doors, you're taken to a place steeped in the last century but with all the modern amenities you'd need. You're asked to sit down and drink a hot cup of tea. Chances are, you will not want to get up. Bhuj House is a gem in the midst of the city in the desert. It's a place you can leave the world at the door when you come home each evening. Bliss.
