Spring is here. Enjoy the wisteria draped breakfast porch and peaceful parklike setting. Three minutes drive to Kerikeri's attractions: hike to nearby Rainbow Falls, kayak the estuaries, sail a Tall Ship on the bay, go to the Hole in the Rock, swim with dolphins, marvel at the biggest Maori Canoe in NZ, , cycle around town on our bikes or relax at a cafe and kick back to jazz music at the popular Saturday Market at the Old Pack House and the Sunday Farmer's Market....that's the short list!

Le logement

If two people traveling together wish to utilize both bedrooms then book in as "3" people. Otherwise we assume two people will be sharing the king-sized bedroom at the quoted price.

King-sized NZ bed in a bright, peaceful, garden surrounded room tastefully furnished with handcrafted native kauri and rimu furniture. WIFI connection, desk, chair and bedside table, reading light. Original photos and Pacific Island tapa cloth decorate the room. Very quiet in a beautiful, luxuriant semi-tropical garden.

A second bedroom furnished with handcrafted furniture has a double bed and looks out into the secluded patio garden. It also has a spacious wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a dressing table.

Both bedrooms can be privately accessed by the back door to the house. and have access to the large stylish bathroom with heated towel rail, bathtub and a separate glassed in shower. There is also a laundry with washing machine and dryer, cost $7.00 per load, soap included. The adjacent open plan kitchen-dining-living room spills out into the dining porch that overlooks landscaped gardens. Or relax on the intimate umbrella-shaded back patio among lush sub-tropical plants.

Guests are welcome to use the family lounge room, dining, porch and laundry and even the kitchen too, for simple meals. There is a second spacious living room and beyond that, the owner's suite and their study, so the two bedroom areas are at opposite ends of the house. Naturally there is WI-FI available.

Our style is casual, warm and friendly. Michael and I are gregarious people who enjoy interacting with our guests and happy to advise them of local activities, but are sensitive enough to give people plenty of space of their own. We usually have breakfast with our guests. As we are also well traveled we always enjoy meeting other travelers with a tale to tell.

A generous breakfast of fruit, cereal, toast, butter, jam, orange juice and tea or coffee will be served.

Space can be used in the refrigerator for luncheon cheeses or meat.

Like many Kerikeri properties converted from citrus orchards, our property and the surrounding acreage is hedged by tall Japanese cedar trees which shelter us from the wind. This makes us very private , with a lovely view across broad park-like lawns, a landscaped garden and specimen trees that sweep down to a bend in the nearby Wairoa River. Temperate and sub-tropical plants flourish on our volcanic soils and we maintain a large vegetable garden, along with an orchard of plums, apples, macadamia nuts, oranges, tamarillos, guava, figs and fijoas.

Its not recommended to come without a car. However, The "Northliner" bus comes directly to Kerikeri from central Auckland, and we are happy to pick up guests at their drop off point in Kerikeri if you let us know in advance. Sightseeing tours throughout Northland run from Paihia, which you can assess via early morning bus 7:30AM out of Kerikeri. Tour buses can take you to various locations including the kauri forests and Cape Reinga while boats also leave from Paihia to island destinations in the Bay of Islands. Cars may be rented locally. There are regular Air New Zealand feeder flights to our local airport from where a local shuttle taxi runs. Just ask if you want to know more.

We have two cats who mainly keep to themselves, but should someone be allergic to (URL HIDDEN) aware. Classical music choruses through the house in the mornings along with the singing of the birds in the trees outside. Kerikeri central is 15 minutes away walking, and 3 minutes by car. There is a quality cinema there with three theaters, and a good cafe open at dinner time. Kerikeri also boasts a Performing Arts Centre. Ask us for the latest listings of events or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) "The Centre", Kerikeri. There are a dozen restaurants (including Indian with $10 curry lunches) and as many coffee shops scattered about, as well as a very good second hand book store with comfy couches! The famous Kerikeri Stone Stone is a short hike away down at the Basin on the Kerikeri River. It is the oldest building in New Zealand. And from there you can continue your hike along the lovely river for almost an hour to the beautiful Rainbow Falls where you can cool down with a swim .

Accès des voyageurs

Guests are welcome to use the family room with a wood burning fireplace for cool nights, the dining area, the kitchen (for light meals), the broad front veranda where we dine alfresco for breakfast summer and autumn, and where a hammock often swings. Guests may also want to visit the gardens and surrounding orchard. In the sheltered courtyard, smokers may linger if they like. There is a laundry room and dryer. The large bathroom is shared between the two guest bedrooms.

I am available to help with advice and recommendations during your stay. We have maps and brochures available and can give you other tips to make the most of your precious time. There are waterfalls, walks and swimming holes you might like to try along with a host of other adventures or you can just relax around the house and in the surrounding gardens.

Autres remarques

You will most likely need your own transport. If you come by car, great. If you come by bus we can pick you up but be aware of the distances to the things you might want to see. We are a three minute drive away. We have two bicycles that you might like to borrow if you have no other transport so as to see more of the area than you might on foot. Cars may be locally rented.

We urge guests who smoke to just pop outside to the sheltered courtyard as we are non smokers. There is no smoking in the house or in the bedrooms. Noise in the courtyard after dark could disturb our friend in the flat nearby, so we would ask guests to be considerate.
Partying and drinking to excess is not appreciated.
We welcome pleasant, well-mannered guests who enjoy the finer things in life and will respect our home and personal furnishings.

Tere and Michael were perfect hosts - my plans changed unexpectedly and they accommodated me without batting an eyelid- both so welcoming and happy to share life their life experiences, which are totally mind blowing. The comfy bed with feather pillow was a perfect end to a wonderful Northland day.

Tere and Michael have a beautiful home and garden and they were very welcoming and keen to share a wealth of stories from their fascinating past, travelling the world. Highly recommended if you enjoy socialising with your hosts and enjoy relaxing in a beautiful garden. We stayed 2 nights and used the house as a base to explore Northland. Tere and Michael recommended the Israeli restaurant in Kerikeri for dinner and it was indeed excellent.

Tere and Michael were wonderful hosts who elevated our stay in Kerikeri. Their home is beautiful in a stunning location and close to town. We had private access to our rooms and bathroom which were immaculate. They made us feel so very welcome in their home. Apart from giving us a lot of local information they gave us amazing conversation. They have a beautiful garden with an abundance of fruits and vegetables which was so generously offered to us. We really enjoyed our breakfast, their huge selection of teas and homemade jam. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms have lovely views. This is the place to stay. We were very lucky to have found them.

I have been a life-long traveler, a sailor, a photographer and an author of books and magazines. I have run our businesses along with my husband, Michael, who among other things, builds handcrafted furniture from native timbers. I have been a teacher (in Japan) of English, and have been involved with self-help groups. Collectively Michael and I have been in the boat charter and hotel business in the Caribbean, and in land development in the British Virgin Islands. We immigrated to NZ in 1972 along with our two young children who grew up here. I could run on about our adventuresome life but to make it brief, for 18 years, until we returned to NZ six years ago we lived aboard our 47-foot steel ketch "Sea Quest" on which we sailed to a multitude of remote Pacific and S.E. Asian islands over a period of 18 years. Meeting and getting to know extraordinary people always been a high point of our adventures. We hope to extend the experience through hosting AirBnB guests. Our house is a treasure trove of mementos and photographs from those times. Now, in Kerikeri I am a quiet gardener, reveling in the delights and bounty of the land, a part of the local community and settled at last. Michael and I both take a serious pleasure in inspiring others to squeeze the most out of their stay with us in Kerikeri.

Although we are new to hosting at AIRBNB we have had many international visitors over the years in this house. Our B&B guests will free to come and go as they like or use the veranda and the living room as their own. We are more than willing to engage in conversation and fill in about about local activities, the restaurants and anything else. We hope we can help you beyond your expectations!

Michael and I still travel to Hawaii and L.A., where our children and grandchildren live. We do prefer sailing to flying however, but our boat used to do in one month the miles that a 747 would do in one hour! So I guess you could say we kind of like the slow lane!
