Description

Tucked away at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Tree House welcomes you to Healing Springs. Our Tree House is a small cabin tucked up in the trees along a babbling brook. The Healing Spring was discovered in 1884, come and drink the water!

Our Tree House is a small cabin perched upon tree poles in the woods. This charming couples retreat was built entirely with reclaimed lumber from an Ashe County homestead that was over 100 year old!

It has a small deck with seating and overlooks a babbling brook. This cozy tree house has a plush Queen size bed, a small sitting area and a private bathroom.

Open the windows and enjoy the sounds of a night in the woods with a ceiling fan to move the cool mountain air. You will love sleeping in this rustic cabin with a tin roof.

The bathroom has shower walls made from galvanized tin reclaimed from an old barn, it features a rain head shower.

The Tree House has a mini-fridge, and coffee pot, complete with coffee and sweeteners. The Tree House has both air conditioning and heat.

To access the Tree House, you have to walk up a path in the woods, and then up a flight of stairs. Parking is a short distance away, but you must be able to walk up a slight hill and then up a flight of stairs.

A 2 night minimum stay is required. We have other cabins that don't require a minimum stay, just ask us! All major holidays require a 3 night minimum stay.

Check in is between 4 pm and 8 pm. Arrangements can be made for later arrivals. Check out is by 11 am.

I live on the property and am available as much or as little as guests would like.

Ashe County and West Jefferson is located in what has been historically referred to as the "lost province" due to the geographical location. Our county is situated in the northwestern corner of the state of North Carolina and is the gateway to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Cabins at Healing Springs is conveniently located to everything that Ashe County has to offer. Start with visiting West Jefferson where one will find a growing art culture. There are many art galleries, and the town features murals painted on the downtown buildings. There are antiques, and other shops, history museum, boutiques & emporiums, dining, coffee shops, and old fashioned ice cream. Make a point to visit the Church of the Frescos with work by artist Benjamin Long and the Museum of Ashe County History.

Well worth a visit is the Ashe County Farmer’s Market, conveniently located in downtown West Jefferson. When shopping is finished for the day, you may choose to stop by the Ashe Cheese Company and sample homemade cheese or take some home to enjoy with friends. There is also a home town movie theater called the Parkway if you want to take in a current movie at only $3.00 on Sundays.

From scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway or along one of our High Country back roads to visiting some of our charming local towns such as West Jefferson, Lansing, Sparta or Todd. Be sure to stop by and explore Thistle Meadows Winery while on your drive. If the outdoors is calling you, a wealth of hiking can be found in our many parks.

Explore the New River State Park, Mount Jefferson State Park, Grayson Highlands State Park, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, Grandfather Mountain, Pond Mountain, Bluff Mountain Nature Preserve, Doughton Park, and nearby Stone Mountain State Park and Three Top Mountain.

Enjoy a bike ride along the Virginia Creeper Trail, or the Railroad Grade Road that runs between Todd and Fleetwood, or try the Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park, For the golf enthusiast, there is Mountain Aire Golf Course and Jefferson Landing, both located in West Jefferson, disc golf at High Country Disc Golf Club.

Ashe County offers a wealth of Fly Fishing opportunities! From streams to the New River, fly fishing is a popular activity for anglers of all types. March thru November is the high Fly Fishing season on the New River in North Carolina. You can hook a great deal of varieties including small mouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, mountain trout, muskellunges, carp, flat-head and channel catfish. There are numerous anglers throughout Ashe County that will direct you to the best spots along the New River.

The New River also offers canoeing, kayaking, and tubing and several local outfitters are ready to help you plan your next adventure. Choose from nearby New River Outfitters, Zaloo’s Canoes and Riverside Canoeing located right here in Crumpler.

Horseback riding is available at Burnt Hill Stables in Laurel Springs or Appalachians by Horseback in Boone.

Ashe County has a variety of festivals to interest everyone!

Healing Springs is a special place. Discovered in 1884 and originally called Thompson's Bromine and Arsenic Springs. The property was then known as Healing Springs Resort in later years, and is now simply called The Cabins at Healing Springs.

The natural spring is purported to have mystical healing abilities and rumored to have cured everything from poison ivy to rheumatism, indigestion to ulcers. Today, our cabins are all equipped with a water pitcher so you can enjoy the fresh spring water in your cabin any time during your stay.

We stayed at the Treehouse for our Anniversary and a much needed break from our hectic lifestyle. It is a very peaceful and rustic spot with all we needed to recharge. There is no TV or cell service which provided us with a wonderful break! The space is small and comfortable and gives you the feeling of camping in luxury. Anne is a warm and welcoming host and her soap smells and feels really great! Drink up on that spring water too, once you read all the minerals that are in it, it is easy to see why it is a "healing spring" and it tastes really good too.

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. We do have cabins that offer TV and WiFi if you decide that you want to be "plugged in" for your next visit. We look forward to hosting you both again one day soon!

Absolute hidden gem! I had such a relaxing, restful stay in the treehouse that I didn't want to leave. It's such a tranquil spot-- you can hear the stream nearby and not much else. It's bright and cheery and even has a porch to sit on. Anne is a wonderful host, available for questions then leaves you alone to experience this special place on your own. I can't wait to go back.

We arrived in the rain. Anne was gracious enough to give us a cabin instead of the treehouse. While the cabin was quaint it was a bit musty smelling. But hey, it's an old cabin by a creek. We checked in at 4:00 and were out the door at 7:00am due to wasp invading the cabin. My husband killed four and they kept coming. I told Anne and her reply was they set up house quickly. We would have loved to have stayed to relax and enjoy our morning. The wasp moved in so we moved out. Probably wouldn't stay here again.

I am so terribly sorry about the wasps. We rarely have issues and we work very hard not to have issues with them, but they can set up a nest in a matter of hours. Orkin was here to eradicate them less than 45 minutes after you told me about them. Again, I am terribly sorry about the wasps, but we dealt with them as soon as you told me. In regards to the cabin smelling musty, our cabins were built in 1904 and we work very hard to keep them clean and crisp for all of our guests. My housekeeping team and I were not able to identify the musty smell that you reported, but we have gone through the cabin with a fine tooth comb. We hope that you will come stay with us again in the future to enjoy our peaceful hideaway in the woods.

Welcome! I have a passion for reviving and restoring old homes. I believe in saving our history, one home at a time.

I moved to Wilson, NC from Anchorage, AK in 2010 on a whim, to experience "southern hospitality". After restoring several Victorian homes in Wilson, in 2013, I fell in love with a property in Ashe County, the furthest NW corner of North Carolina. Here, my partner and I purchased a property that is on the National Historic Register of places known as Healing Springs.

We have spent the past year restoring our 10 cabins and are thrilled to be able to offer them to guests. Our property is called The Cabins at Healing Springs.

We strive to provide cozy and comfortable accommodations with great beds! My style is to leave people to their own thing, but I am happy to chime in with recommendations and suggestions for our wonderful area.
