Some information about Torvajanica and its surroundings:
Torvajanica, a Pomezia’s hamlet at about 25 km from Rome, is a seaside resort located on the Lazio coast between Ostia and Anzio; it would have landed right where the legendary Aeneas stopped before founding the Caput Mundi and extends along the coast road on a spit of land long approximately 15 km with only half kilometer depth.
It owes its name to the Tower of Vajanico, built in 1580 for the sighting and defense against pirate raids thanks to Gregory XIII and the noble Cesarini family, under the direction of Giacomo della Porta; it was damaged during the Second World War and later demolished during the building speculation of the '60s.
In the epic Eneide, Virgilio tells that Aeneas father of Rome and founder of the gens Julia, fleeing from the defeat of Troy, landed'on these shores Lavinie, fulfilling the destiny assigned to him by the fate to return to the ancient mother Lazio, home of Dardanus, his ancestor and founder of Troy. ...And on the river Numicio (now Rio di Pratica di Mare) Aeneas disappeared during a battle to be taken among the gods. Lavinium the city founded by Aeneas and where he was buried (the ruins of which can be seen in the archaeological site of Pratica di Mare), was always regarded as an sacred altar from the Imperial Rome.
Despite the rather ancient origins, the nowdays village is the work of the Pontine drainage desired by Mussolini in the ‘40s to accommodate a population related to the earth's resources and the fishing tradition. The Torvajanica’s tourism explosion dates back to the '50s / '60s when it became the centre of many film personalities due to the proximity of the De Laurentis film studios, of the capital Rome and as a point of great naturalistic interest for the beauty of Mediterranean sea.
Today it offers:
- many facilities and a wide range of initiatives enlivened by a temperate climate;
-long and wide sandy beaches free and equipped
-Towards Ostia, the beautiful beach of Capocotta: a proteced naturalistic area of the Mediterranean , situated in front of the homonymous estate that belongs to the President of the Republic.

-Cinecittà World a cinema theme Park near the Castel Romano outlet;
- The Tor Paterno, an island completely submerged by the sea in front of the coast of Torvajanica a paradise for divers vd Island link under the sea
corners and beautiful places:
- the Faun’s Antro, according to legend a sacred oracle site, consulted by the Italic peoples;
-Castle and Village of Pratica di Mare built between the twelfth and fourteenth century by the Bendettini; rather than a castle it looks like a baronial mansion surrounded by a group of farmers terraced houses built around a main square overlooked by a small church. Belonged to the noble families of Massimo and Borghese.
-Torremaggiore-situated between the Via Ardeatina and the Via Laurentina, in S. Palomba, the highest (34 mt.) and the most beautiful of all the Roman countryside. It was a look-out tower of great importance ensured the control of access roads to Rome from the south.
-Lavinium-Old City-founded, according to legend by Aeneas, surrounded by a wall of 3,300 meters, for an extension of the thirty hectares. The Acropolis correspond to the Village of Pratica di Mare while the Forum was identified in the plateau called "Vigna Nuova."
