WELCOME TO OUR
SHERIDAN LAKE COTTAGE HOME

We would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your visiting members. We hope you find our Sheridan Lake Cottage home comfortable, exciting, relaxing but most of all enjoyable, during your stay.

You will find that there are many different adventures one can partake in during their stay here, whether it is for a short holiday or for a longer relaxing retreat. Sheridan Lake, located in the Interlakes district of Cariboo Chilcotin, is 1659-hectares (4098 acres) and spring fed, with miles of shoreline and shoals. It is well stocked, 300,000 annually, many reaching trophy size. Sheridan Lake has a store, cafe and gas station provide services and facilities for the large number of avid fishers and vacationers who come to this gorgeous lake. Although the largest certified rainbow weighed in at 17 pounds, fishermen's stories claim fish up to 25 pounds. The average is about 3 to 5 pounds. So while you are here, take the time to cast a line or two into the crystal clear water, and sit back to see if you can bring home a “Fisherman’s story”. Best of luck!

Don’t think that fishing is the only form of sport or relaxation available to you and your party during your visit. There are many more activities to participate in during your stay. The swimming itself is fantastic, especially having the lake spring fed. Then there is the abundant wildlife you can enjoy. Walks with nature are always welcoming, and can be most enjoyable. The two sundecks offer breathtaking views during your stay here. Try to catch a quiet moment and embrace one of the most beautiful sunsets you will most likely see.

Most of all enjoy your stay here at our Sheridan Lake Cottage home, and when you find a moment before you take your leave, please sign our guest book online (i.e. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), Airbnb, etc.) and let us know what you enjoyed about our Cottage.

Please have a safe return to your home, where ever that may be in this wonderful world, and we hope to be able to offer our Sheridan Lake Cottage Home to you again, so you may make yourself at home.

All the Best from The Bush’s at Sheridan Lake, B.C.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

PLEASE READ & FOLLOW THESE RULES & INFORMATION

Safety:
Properties like this cabin will involve safety risks which you may not encounter at your home. These risks are entirely your responsibility.

Garbage:
DO NOT LEAVE ANY GARBAGE OUTSIDE!!! There is wildlife in the area and this WILL attract bears and other predators to the property. Excess garbage can be taken to the local dump. This dump is located just past the interlakes complex off highway 24 west. You turn just past the log home building company (the Landfill SIGN is posted). Hours are shown on the attached sheet.

Satellite Dish:
Please ensure remote controls are kept in good condition. Please do not attempt to order pay per view movies, shows or events. DVDs can be rented at Interlakes or 100 Mile House. We have stocked many DVDs that are stored in the TV stand drawers.

Shoes:
Please do not wear shoes inside the house. Please leave them in the entrance way mud room.

Parking:
Never park vehicles or place other large objects on the septic drain field between the house and Mickelsen Road, as this will compact the soil and reduce its ability to treat wastewater. It also may damage the network of drain pipes within the field, causing them to need to be replaced. You may park just off the road near the boat trailer or on the driveway near the sheds or house entrance. Please ensure that your vehicle wheels are blocked in case your emergency brake fails to hold.

BBQ:
A Weber BBQ and propane is supplied for your use. You are using this at your own risk. Please ensure that the propane tank is turned off after each use.

PLEASE ENSURE YOU CLEAN THE BBQ AND GRILLS THOROUGHLY
BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

Heating:
If heat is required, please use the thermostat control on the wall facing west in the sunroom (next to the laundry sink). The thermostat facing the kitchen is for controlling the wood portion of the furnace and is not to be used.

The Waterford Woodstove located in the living room is for optional heat. You may use this stove but please restrict the fires to small ones i.e. 2 or 3 pieces of small wood at a time. Even small fires will be enough to heat the cabin. There are also fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector. Each rental receives a large wheel barrow load of firewood for each weeks stay. (Subject to fire restrictions/regulations.)

Please ensure the round white vent located on the wall to the right of the woodstove is kept open during use. NOTE: This stove gets quite hot on the outside of the unit. Please ensure that you or any children DO NOT touch it or the pipes as burns may occur.

ASHES, once they have cooled down, are to be removed using the ash drawer on the woodstove. These ashes are to be dumped in a metal garbage can with the lid tightly secured. Ensure there are no combustible items in the garbage can. The garbage can should be placed away from any combustible item.

Rowboat:
The rowboat is locked up at the dock or shore area. A waiver must be signed by all parties of legal age and returned. The key for this lock is located on the key storage hooks located in the kitchen near the sunroom. The key has a floatation ring in case it’s dropped in the water. After use please lock up the rowboat and return the key. Use of the rowboat is at your own risk. Lifejackets are to be worn. It is recommended that you bring your own life jackets. There are life jackets at the cabin but it is your responsibility to ensure they fit correctly. Children are to be supervised. Please return the lifejackets to the entrance way when finished. Although lifejackets are available this does not guarantee their fit and appropriateness. You are responsible to ensure that any person is wearing the correct lifejacket for their body weight and age. If a lifejacket is not appropriate it is strongly recommended that you acquire one of your own before using the water or the rowboat.

DO NOT put the boat on rocks, etc. Please use care not to damage the hull or any other part of this boat. Note - The rowboat, at times, can get rain water inside due to the weather. This water should be baled out before use.

Larger boat with motor:
Please do not attempt to use this boat. Please do not enter this boat or climb on it. When swimming, do not go near the engine and prop area, etc.

Ants:
There may be anthills on the property that are currently being treated with child resistant ant bait. Please ensure that no children play in these areas. Ants are a very common problem in these areas and there may be other ants within the house and surrounding property. They are currently being treated but you may still find some ants roaming around.

Septic System:
DO NOT park on the east yard between the house and the road. This is the septic field and it would be damaged. Also, please only use small amounts of toilet paper in the toilet. Please DO NOT flush any other man-made articles such as paper towels, etc. down the toilet. DO NOT flush any chemicals or cleaners down the toilet or pour any down the sink.
PLEASE Watch What Goes Down the Drain
Controlling what goes into the water that enters the system is just as important as reducing the amount of water that flows into the system.
•Never dispose of toxic or hazardous chemicals by dumping them down the drain as they have the potential to contaminate groundwater and can damage the septic system.
•Refrain from putting any plastic, cloth, or unnecessary paper products into the sewage system. No paper towels, kotex, tampax, disposable diapers, etc. please – Use only small quantities of toilet paper.
•Especially avoid putting any grease or oil in the disposal or drain. These can clog pipes and drain field soil and damage the system.
Telephone:
A telephone is provided for your convenience at this property. When making long distance calls, you are requested to call collect or to use your calling card. The cabin’s local telephone number is (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).

Cleaning:
You are responsible for leaving the property clean and tidy and in the same condition in which you found it. The furniture must be left in the same position as it was in on your arrival. There is a vacuum located in the closet that can be used. All garbage is to be removed and taken to the local landfill.

Swimming:
Swim at your own risk. It is recommended to swim off the end of the dock. Any non-swimmers and children should be supervised at all times. There are western brook lampreys in the lake. We have been advised that these are non-parasitic. Again, they are non-parasitic and are vegetarians according to information online concerning Sheridan Lake. Most fresh water lakes with trout contain these or similar lampreys. It is a rare occurrence to have them stick to a person but we have been told it can happen. Entering the water from shore increases the chance of encounters with these lampreys as some are attached to rocks, etc. If you happen to encounter these we have been advised that table salt can be used to remove them. There is also information online about the safe removal of them. We have never encountered these during our swimming, etc.

Fire pit:
One large load of firewood is supplied in the wheel barrow for your use in the fire pit. (Subject to fire restrictions). You may use the axe supplied to chop it into smaller pieces if required. Please use caution when using this equipment. Again, this is at your own risk. Please supervise any fire in the pit at all times and douse the fire with water when you are finished with it. Ensure the fire is totally put out before retiring to the house. Further rules about the size of fires currently allowed, subject to any fire bans, are attached in a separate sheet to follow.
If more firewood is required, it can be purchased at the Info. Centre at the Sheridan Lake Store.
Water:
We are on a private well. The water is quite hard due to the high mineral content. The well cap is located in the yard near the fire pit. Please do not remove the well cap.
Breaker panel/Electrical:
The electrical breaker box is located in the middle bedroom with the single bed. Please do not turn any other breakers on. The workshop and sheds are on a separate breaker and this remains in the off position.

Wildlife:
There are many squirrels and deer in the area. There is always a possibility of larger animals such as cougars and bears, etc. Please DO NOT feed these animals and follow appropriate protocols as outlined in websites such as (URL HIDDEN) .

Alarms and other equipment:
There are fire extinguishers provided. One in the kitchen right of the sink on the wall and the other near the front door . There are smoke detectors in each bedroom and the hallway and a carbon monoxide detector in the hallway. If these alarms sound please deal with the matter appropriately and in accordance with the instructions shown for these devices (located in the main binder). Please read these emergency procedures in advance so you are prepared.
