HARVEST BIRREGURRA Bed & Breakfast is a newly renovated Californian bungalow with Art Deco features. The house is set amongst a large garden filled with fruit trees and native plants. We are also 5 minutes walk from Birregurra's heritage Main Street with Birregurra Farm Foods Provedore and Cafe featuring a huge range of local food and wine products sourced from around the region. Wander a little further and you'll find boutiques, cafes, a gallery, gift shops and a good old country pub. Across the road is a great 9 hole golf course with sweeping views across the Otways and the Barwon River.
You can get here easily in 1 hr 45 mins by car from Melbourne or by V-line train from Southern Cross station - 3 trains daily direct to Birregurra.
We have two beautiful rooms, newly renovated and appointed with a small but smart bathroom ensuite. The beds are queen size and are fitted with high quality cotton linen and oversized doonas. Price is for one room with queen bed for 2 people only.
At winter we fit electric blankets - perfect for those cold nights. Each room has a flat screen LED TV, a desk and hanging space for your clothes. They also both have a wonderful skylight that lights up the room during the day and showcases stars at night. Panel heaters are in the room to keep you warm in winter and for summer there is a fan. We don't have airconditioning - you won't need it. That's the benefit of having a well insulated energy efficient home.
The B&B also has a guest lounge and breakfast room with a kitchenette where you can help youselves to tea and coffee and store some food if you are staying a while. There is a microwave, a bbq and access to basics such as salt, pepper and oil.
Outside, you can sit and enjoy your meal under the pergola out the back or on the front porch. There are many other areas in the garden to sit, relax and while away a few hours with a good book.
Our ethos is sustainability and relaxation. We produce and harvest our own fresh fruit and veges, we generate much of our electricity and we have retrofitted our house to be as energy efficient as possible.
To relax, you can lounge on the front porch with a glass of wine or a coffee and watch the world go by. We have a set of golf clubs you can borrow to play a round of 9 holes across the road at Birregurra Golf Club (A$15 per day). Also, if you're a budding or frustrated artist, you can buy a canvas and some paint from me, grab an easel and some brushes from my studio and head out into the garden or over to the golf course and paint your own masterpiece.
Our garden in a work in progress and in 2 years has gone from a paddock to a lush ramble of pathways, orchard, vege patch, native hideaway and cottage garden.
THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN THE AREA
We are 30 minutes drive from Lorne, the start of the Great Ocean Road. The trip takes you to the coast through The Otways. From there you can travel along the great ocean road taking in the sights and dropping in to coastal towns along the way.
One great day trip is down to Lorne for coffee and a brisk walk along the beach, head along the coast and stop for lunch at Wye River General Store (the best pastries), travel another 20 mins along the coast and stop in Apollo Bay for a swim and a glass of beer at the pub, and at the end of the day, head back inland to Birregurra via Forrest and go for walk to Lake Elizabeth before making one final stop at Forrest Brewery to have a boutique brew and stock up on some bottles of locally made beer to enjoy on our front porch.

We're a friendly, easy to get on with couple in our late 30s who run a newly renovated boutique B&B in Birregurra with a sustainable ethos — keen to showcase our region's fantastic food and wine. We're loving life in the country having moved from Melbourne in 2010 and spend most of our free time either in the garden or down at Lorne beach, on the spectacular Great Ocean Road, walking our 2 cheeky pooches.
We have travelled a fair bit in the past including 4WD around most of Australia as well as backpacking through Europe and parts of South East Asia. We have now traded in our backpacks for suitcases with wheels and occasionally get the chance to revisit and further explore our favourite countries including Italy, Turkey, France, Thailand and visiting family in England.
We are very easy to get on with as hosts, travellers and guests.
As travellers, we enjoy visiting remote seaside and countryside but don't mind hanging out in the hustle and bustle of a city - especially when there is great food and art.
As guests, we are quiet, clean and enjoy shopping at the local market to cook some great food. We appreciate the local knowledge from our hosts and we always try to leave our accommodation as we found it - clean, tidy and ready for the next lucky people.
As hosts, we enjoy welcoming guests into our home and making their stay a memorable one - both with great home cooked food as well as plenty of advice on things to do around the Great Ocean Road and Otways region. Birregurra is a great place and a fantastic base for exploring.
