Le logement

The Barn at Cotmore Farm is a recently renovated, reverse-level conversion situated in a small farm courtyard at the end of a private tree-lined drive in a sheltered south-facing valley tucked away between Salcombe and Dartmouth. Luxuriously appointed throughout, with heated slate floors downstairs and solid oak boards upstairs, original contemporary art on the walls, comfortable leather sofas and a flatscreen HD TV, The Barn provides all the comforts of home in an idyllic country setting.

The front door opens to an elegant hallway. On the left, a large bookcase filled with paperback and hardback fiction, reference books and local history, and an excellent selection of children's picture books, will tempt you to browse and borrow. To the right, the master bedroom with en-suite is furnished with a kingsize bed. Next door a private laundry room has washing, drying and ironing facilities. The spacious second bedroom can be configured as one superking or up to three single beds. A cot is available if required at no extra charge.

A glass balustraded staircase leads to the first floor, a lovely, light-filled space, with high ceilings, exposed beams and roof lights, offering expansive, open-plan living. At one end of this 40-foot room is a fully equipped kitchen and dining area, with views to the garden and farm courtyard. At the other, two comfortable leather sofas, a widescreen satellite TV, and a high-end Scandinavian woodburner offer a congenial space to relax of an evening. Double French doors give onto a sunny private terraced garden, with outdoor dining facilities and barbecue. From the terrace, a path leads to a sheltered apple orchard and a grassy area perfect for a game of football or cricket. A giant trampoline offers hours of safe fun and amusement for children with excess energy to burn.

Horses, lambs, chickens, ducks, and rare breed piglets provide feeding opportunities for animal-loving children (and adults!), while birdwatchers will delight in the abundance of visitors to our many tables and feeders. And since we're barely a mile from the South West Coast Path, walkers (and their dogs) will not want for new routes to explore.

Accès des voyageurs

Guests have a private garden and free access to the orchard with its giant trampoline. They are welcome to explore the farm and visit the animals in their homes: we keep horses, Shetland sheep, chickens, ducks and rare breed pigs, with very cute piglets!

Le quartier

The South Hams, Devon's own riviera, boasts some of the most unspoilt coastline on the English coast: its sweeping bays and secluded coves, including the promontories of Start Point and Bolt Head, along with the lower Avon and Dart valleys, form the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Many miles of safe, award-winning beaches offer swimming, rockpooling, and sunbathing opportunities, while watersports - particularly surfing, windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and parasailing - are popular and widely available. There are facilities for golf, sailing, horseriding, tennis, and river- and sea fishing all within 30 minutes' drive of the property. Walkers and their dogs will appreciate the attractions of miles of quiet lanes, footpaths, bridleways, and the renowned South Devon Coast Path, while stargazers will glory in the complete absence of artificial light, which makes the Milky Way regularly visible with the naked eye. The area is hugely popular with birdwatchers: Start Point is on a major migration route, Slapton Ley is an overwintering spot for overseas visitors, and the rare Cirl Bunting can be spotted on the farm. South Devon is at the cutting edge of the Good Food revolution in the UK and there are superb eateries to be found in every town and village. Fish and seafood are a speciality in the many fishing villages along the coast, and there are a number of establishments where you can pick your choice from the slab or tank and have it prepared, cooked and served to your table while you wait.

My family and I had a fantastic few days at Piers and Sue's lovely farm. Sue was there to greet us when we arrived and show us around the barn and the property. There was also a wonderful welcome basket waiting for us which contained some delicious local treats. They also provided us with milk and butter and their own eggs which was so thoughtful. We also bought some delicious sausages from Piers. My children really loved exploring the farm and meeting the animals. They also love bouncing on the trampoline. The area surrounding the farm was so beautiful and we had a wonderful time exploring the local beaches and villages. The home itself was extremely clean and well laid out. Only wish we had longer to enjoy it!

The Barn at Cotmore Farm is a delightful and tranquil spot, the accommodation is well equipped and comfortable and Piers and Sue were very welcoming and gracious hosts. The welcoming basket of goodies was a particularly nice touch. Our children (8 & 5) loved feeding the pigs, chickens, sheep and horses. This was our first time staying on this side of the estuary and we preferred it, still very close to the hustle and bustle of Salcombe and a stones throw from lots of beautiful empty beaches. Our stay was brief but on one day we parked in the NT car park in East Portlemouth and caught the ferry across to Salcombe for ice cream and a spot of people watching followed by an hour or two on the beach at Mill Bay and on our other day we parked at Gara Rock and walked through the woods down to East Portlemouth and back along the coastal path to Gara Rock for the ubiquitous ice cream. Children and dogs were suitably exhausted but happy. The Crab Shell in Kingsbridge provided a family friendly spot for moules & frites and a bottle of wine later on. In all The Barn provides the perfect base for a family orientated get away to the South Hams.

Thank you for letting us share your little piece of tranquility for the weekend. The lay out of the prperty was perfect for us. Having the enclosed garden made it relaxing with the dogs. The eggs were a treat.

Piers is a great host and has provided a great place to stay, surrounded by great green scenery, close to the coast with the main town only a stones throw away.

We spent only 3 nights at Cotmore and had the benefit of feeling like we had a relaxed week away. It was such a lovely place to relax and spend quality time outdoors. Piers was the perfect host and the house was spotless, with lots of extra's that made it feel special. We will be back!

We really enjoyed our stay in Cotmore. The Barn is absolutely fantastic! Very spacious, comfortable, and well equipped (including great book and DVD collections!). The kids enjoyed visiting the chickens in the morning, and if it wasn't for the weather, they would definitely make a better use of the lovely garden and the trampoline! The location of the farm is quite remote (which is actually brilliant!), but within short driving distance from the beach, pubs, restaurants and good local farm shop! Great place, indeed, and we hope to be back in the summer. Highly recommend it.

Cotmore is a 17th century house surrounded by 13 acres of land that was already a farm more than a thousand years ago. It is a welcoming place that is home to Piers, Sue, their teenage children, some cats, and a small, friendly, bouncy dog called Jack. We moved here from south-east England in 2011, with the aim of establishing an environment where others could enjoy the kind of holiday we remember from our own childhoods in Ireland and Cornwall, and began the painstaking process of converting three derelict stone barns and outbuildings into stylish, comfortable self-catering accommodation at the heart of the farm. We keep horses, Large Black and Berkshire pigs, Shetland sheep, and free-range chickens and ducks, from which we have a plentiful supply of eggs, sausages, bacon, and hams. And living just a mile from the spectacular south Devon coast, we take full advantage of our fabulous seaside location to walk, swim, surf and kayak.
