We are at the east end of Loch Tay, Highland Perthshire, in a converted Victorian schoolhouse in the peaceful village of Acharn, less than 2 miles from Kenmore. The building can be cold in winter but is fine in summer. Some of the best walking and hills in the country are on our door step. Acharn is on National Cycle Route 7 and the Rob Roy Way and we are an excellent overnight stay or base to explore from for cycle tourists and walkers. Fishing and boating are also available in the area.

Le logement
The room is on the first floor of the house; it is simple and comfortable with a double bed, chest of drawers, full book shelves and view out over the wooded burn by the house.

Accès des voyageurs
There are two bathrooms available to the guests; one on the first floor of the house, with a bath, sink and toilet, and a shower room on the ground floor.

Guests are welcome to use the the family kitchen and sitting room, both on the ground floor. Also welcome to use the washing machine; we do not have a dryer but a pulley in the laundry and outside washing line would be available. The garden is quiet and a little wild, guests would be very welcome to sit/doze/pull weeds as weather allows.

A simple breakfast is provided - cereal, bread (often home made) and tea/coffee.

There is WiFi during the day within the house ( but not in the bedrooms), but our internet connection is fairly limited; it is good enough for email, checking in to airports, searching the internet, but is not strong enough for streaming videos, etc.

Autres remarques
The house is old and can be cold in winter (and the occasional Scottish summer); we do have central heating and a woodburning stove in the main living room, and in the evenings the shared rooms in the house are cosy. But we are hardy folk so often don't use the central heating during the summer. The rest of the house can be cold - so its a good idea to bring lots of jumpers in winter.

We ask that guests remove outdoor shoes before going up stairs in the house to the bedrooms; the ground floor is all wooden floors, and the upstairs carpeted. Slippers are a good idea if you can bring them.

The village is small and has no shop, post office or pub. The nearest shop/post office is in Kenmore, about 1.5 miles away; more services - supermarket, garage, sports centre, doctor and beautiful cinema - are available in Aberfeldy, 8.5 miles away.

There are restaurants and cafes in Kenmore, open all year around.

We are on the edge of a small picturesque village, Acharn, that sits on the south shore of Loch Tay. This is a stunningly beautiful area, at any time of year - but particularly in late spring and autumn. There is a famous scenic walk in the village, to a very dramatic waterfall, with a Hermits cave viewing platform, but the area is full of history and stunning landscapes. One mile along the road there is the Scottish Crannog Centre, open April to October, a 5 star visitor attraction based around a reconstruction of an early Iron Age loch dwelling; nearby Kenmore is a picturesque village, and nearest town Aberfeldy has much to visit - Castle Menzies, Dewars World of Whisky, the Birks of Aberfeldy walk and the beautiful Birks Cinema.

There are many archeological sites - stone circles, cup marked stones, ancient forts if that interests; wildlife; lovely woodlands; open moor. boat hire is available in Kenmore if guests would like to explore Loch Tay.

Pendant votre séjour
We have lived here for over fifteen years, so know the area fairly well. We would be happy to advise on places to eat and shop, on walks and cycle routes, as well as local visitor attractions. We are keen cyclists and fairly well equipped with cycle tools, so if any repairs needed, we might be able to help.

We both work from home so there is usually someone around, so arrival at any time is possible.
