Le logement

Hibiscus is a lovely private guest house, located on a hillside overlooking the Antigua Yacht Club Marina and Falmouth Harbour. It is in a trendy neighborhood that is safe and within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars, grocery shops, bank, Nelson's Dockyard, and of course our favorite....Pigeon Point Beach.

Meandering paths connect seven private guest cottages to the Main House, known collectively as The Pineapple House. Guests are welcome to join an informal cocktail hour with other guests and friends, or you are welcome to remain in your own house with living room, bedroom and kitchen.

Restaurants in the area offer everything from local to French, English, and Italian fare.... All are within walking distance of the Pineapple House.

Most of all, the view is stunning from the cottage with luxury yachts anchored on the docks below. At different times of the year, the view changes, as Super Yachts are swapped out for racing yachts, depending upon what functions are going on ashore. The Antigua Yacht Club hosts regattas throughout the year and is located literally 3 minutes from our front gate!

The king size bed has a mosquito net and a fan. We catch our rain water from gutters, so please use water sparingly. The houses are open to the air and offer a tropical, Caribbean style, where yellow and black birds, Banana Twits, fly through the house and visit while you are having breakfast....They may hop impatiently while you finish your fruit. We put sugar out to succor them in further...

There is complimentary internet (in the main house only) and a code to our front gate. We have a friendly and local staff on site, who make up your bed daily and clean your room. We are like family, small and quaint.

Hibiscus is less expensive than Bird House and Cleopatras, because it shares a house with Cleopatras, but it is more expensive than Frangipani and Rum Jungle, because the view is better. It does not have as many steps as Bird House, and while it has a great view, the view is not as good as at Cleopatras, which is located above it with hot water shower. Hibiscus has a private kitchen and cold-water shower.

Pineapple House is a great place to catch up on reading and writing. People who stay here meet people, both within the compound of Pineapple itself and at pubs ashore. Pineapple House caters to the crew off the yachts, who take time off between charters, and we also receive a lot of business from AirBNB guests. People dress up at night and dance the night away at music clubs, where bands are known for their guitarists and singers. Pigeon Point beach is a five minute walk, where there is more than one beach bar. English Harbour offers a safe, trendy neighborhood, where excellent Italian and French restaurants are within walking distance. During regattas, sailors off the racing yachts prefer to stay at Pineapple House. Antigua is known for its beautiful, white sandy beaches, stunning scenery, and friendly people.

Pineapple House and Hibiscus suffered no damage whatsoever from Hurricane Irma, which swept past Antigua on September 5th, 2017. Hibiscus will be ready to go for her full season of bookings, starting October 21st, 2017....

Please feel free to walk around the gardens and join us in the main house for sundowners at sunset.... There’s a lounge in the main house, where you can surf the web (if not in your private cottage), and the little gazebo next to the main house gets good internet reception as well, although the light has to be on for the electric outlet to work. Though we prefer not to do guest laundry, due to water scarcity, we do have laundry facilities on property for a small fee. The garden is for everybody to enjoy with guava trees, mango trees, banana trees, and lots of tropical flowers.

Autres remarques

There is no TV or air conditioning at Pineapple House; guests are invited for sundowners at the main house each evening. All the cottages are open to the wind, and mosquitos do make their way in. Each bed has a mosquito net and a fan, and there is a Mosquito Magnet in the yard, which we rebait every three weeks. With the exception of Bird House and Cleopatras, there is no hot water at Pineapple House; guests are asked to use water sparingly, as water is scarce on the island. Pineapple House has wonderful ocean views, but there are lots of stairs. Because each cottage has just one double bed, Pineapple House caters primarily to couples; dormitory-style beds are available in the main house for crew off the yachts. Internet is available in the main house and gazebo only; we welcome guests to use internet service in the main house. We are open from October to May.

Libby's Pineapple House was a wonderful experience. The location is great, right behind the Antigua Yacht Club within walking distances to lots of bars and restaurant as well as some wonderful beaches. The cottage itself is very basic and rustic. The mosquito net worked extremely well and we had no issues with any mosquito bites. It was a pleasure to wake up to stunning views of the Harbour each day.

Pineapple Cottage is a beautifully unique place which an architect with magical powers and an artist with a feeling for relaxation have put together. The various living spots dot a "hill" and they look out upon a harbor with some rather big boats. The view is lovely, but so is the view of the rooms. Hibiscus is particularly charming. I had to debate with myself whether I preferred to stay in the room or go out to the beach- the "rooms" were that sybaritic and indulgent. But, "rooms" aren't really the right word, because the view to the harbor is essentially wall-less. There is a picket fence and some lattice work that protects you from the great beyond, but otherwise, you are sleeping outside, except that your bed has mosquito netting hanging around it, which is reminiscent of another time and place. But, generally, bugs were not a problem-at all. There is a free flow feeling here and clocks are not very apparent. Libby is immensely likable and helpful and friendly, and there is always a fair amount of relaxed camaraderie in the evening. But, I was tired and needed to sleep, and that was fine too. It would be a good idea to bring earplugs, but please don't see this as a detraction. Hibiscus + earplugs + relaxed attitude=perfection. I'd like to add that Omar, who Libby calls on for taxi driving, is very interesting and can give you some good insights into the culture and concerns of the people of Antigua. Antigua is much more than a place to get tan. I felt that I was visiting a real place with a real culture, rather than a sanitized, Americanized version of something else.

Cheeers from Antigua!!!

Pineapple Cottage was designed by a magical sprite who flitted up and down the hill and dotted it with ethereal little enclaves of calm and beauty, then allowed the breezes to blow through, wafting the white tissue of mosquito netting, and clearing out all the mental cobwebs. When you are in your little- or not so little- perch, you have to decide whether to enjoy the beauty of your room or the beauty of the scenery, which overlooks English Harbor, full of some rather big boats. And, when I use the word "room" I am not quite serious. One wall, the wall that looks out, is perhaps a picket fence, or a bit of lattice. All very safe for the tots, but still allowing one to feel the breezes on your cheek, but not the bites of mosquitos elsewhere. To sleep outside, almost, but protected from bugs and rain, is heavenly…The people are lovely too. Libby is a walking magnet of kindness, and so the people assembled around her are kind too. Omar, her special cab driver, is especially kind, and thoughtful. I hope you will take the time to talk to him and hear about his thoughts on the island and the history. Antigua, at Pineapple Cottage, and all around (except possibly some resorts, but I don't know about them), is a beautiful place, a real place, with a culture, and nature, minus sanitation, minus commercialization, minus Americanization. We loved exploring with our rental car, seeing the towns, seeing the beaches, talking to the people. When you come to Antigua, you are traveling, not just getting a tan (but that happens too, depending on the sunblock use.) Thank you, very much, Libby, and Neal, and Omar, and the nice people who tidied our room.

Libby's place has the true island getaway feel. After many rock steps to the room, Hibiscus, we opened the door to true paradise. The room is bright, airy, no windows, with the most gorgeous view of Falmouth Harbor, which at night is lit up by the large yachts docked at the yard. This view is also encased by trees and flowers, your neighbors are birds that sing you to wake every morning. The furniture is perfect for the Bohemian-themed room, white wooden swings, king-size canopy bed, the kitchenette is equipped with basic necessities. What I loved most about the place is the intricate details and decor. Each corner, every wall of the room has a bohemian flare, pineapple decor, or random yet perfectly placed art pieces. The mix-matched out-of-a-magazine-style can only be pulled off by Libby! The bathroom is separate from the room which I liked and is also open to air without windows. The lighting isn't great but it keeps the bugs and flies out. The shower is large, decent water pressure, and there is no hot water which we found refreshing after long days out on the beach. The toilet works and that's really our only requirement when traveling. Of note, my fiance and I stayed at the Ritz Carlton prior to our stay at Libby's and the Hibiscus Room wins in character, charm, and making the basic necessities feel like luxury. When it comes to our experience outside of the room, the main house is always filled with friendly guests staying from all over the world. Everyone with great advice on which beaches to go, restaurants to try, and most importantly how to get to and from the secluded parts of the island. The location is ideal as it is next to the yacht club which gave us a sense of safety. Libby's place is a walk away from probably the best restaurants and nightlife on the island. My fiance and I rented a car and did lots of touring and still don't believe there is a better place than Libby's. As avid travelers who also enjoy some luxury now and then, Libby's place is authentic with constant hospitality that outweighs any resort/hotel or airbnb we have stayed at. Keep up the rum punchin and Pineapple House parties, Libby!!!

We stayed in Hibiscus, one of the apartments at Pineapple House, for four nights and really enjoyed our time there. Libby arranged for us to be picked up from the airport and had a rum punch waiting for us when we arrived. Hibiscus has no solid walls or windows so is very cool. A mosquito net is provided. The kitchen is equipped enough to cook a meal and the apartment is well located if you want to eat out; it also has amazing views over English Harbour. The only down side to Hibiscus is the lack of hot water. The thing we really liked was the mix of people staying at Pineapple House. There was a good balance of older and younger and everyone mixed well. Libby arranged for all the older crew to have dinner the night we arrived so we had a good introduction which we really appreciated. This was our first visit to Antigua and it was an excellent start.
