Traditional countryside century old villa with garden and pool.
Villa Miranta is a four bedroom fully restored traditional Cretan two-level house situated in a quiet location at the outskirts of Prines, a picturesque little village on a green hill just 5 km from the center (old town) of Rethymnon.
The house is made out of stone and the 60 cm thick walls act as a natural air condition by keeping the house cool in summer and warm in winter. The ground level comprises of two double bed bedrooms (in one of which there is an option of two single beds instead) with en-suite bathroom (WC with shower), a spacious dining room with a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and utensils and the living room with the large original, stone-built fireplace. A wooden staircase leads to the upper floor where two bedrooms with en-suite WC/shower are located. One of the them has a double bed and has access to a veranda and the other one has two wide single beds and its own balcony.
The house is 'wrapped' around the traditional enclosed courtyard and surrounded by a green garden of 1.200 m², full of flowers and a great variety of trees (lemon, mulberry, peach, etc.). At the back of the kitchen there is a terrace with a pergola and a large wooden table towards the pool.
The swimming pool, of 55 m², is equipped with sun beds and sun umbrellas.
Depending the time of the day one has the option to appreciate sun or shade either at the front yard or the back terrace, the garden or the pool and appreciate the fresh Cretan air.
For the periods of time that heating is required, there are electric heaters in each bedroom and of course the big fireplace in the living room (wood provided).
The kitchen is fully equipped. There is cooker, dishwasher, coffee-maker etc as well as cooking and serving utensils (crockery, tablecloths etc). Finally equipment for outdoors barbeque is also provided.
Prines is a picturesque little village 5 km from Rethymon on a green hill not far from the coast at an altitude of 200m. Its origins date back to the 10th century. There are a number of old churches in the village, most important is the church of St. Nicholas from the 13th century.
At Prines one can find local shops such as: bakery, butcher, mini-market, coffee house and a tavern. On the way to Rethymno from Prines you will find 2 bigger super markets and of course the town of Rethymno is within easy reach only 10 min away by car.
There are many taverns where you can have some genuine cretan food. In the house you will find information of some of the highly recommended ones.
Beaches: One of the closest beaches is the Episkopi beach (10km away), a long sandy beach on the north side of the island. There are various beach bars and restaurants along the beach with parasols and sun beds at reasonable prices, or you can just choose a quite spot! It is not recommended if there is northerly wind, as waves can get dangerous. On a day like that you can go towards the south of the island where there are various beautiful beaches (both sandy and with pebbles) . Plakias, Ammoudi and Schinara (scuba diving available) are few of them.
The village is surrounded by olive trees and is ideal for relaxation and hiking. A very nice traditional village to visit by foot is Vederi which is situated 2km away from Prines.
A number of interesting places to visit by car are conveniently situated: Arkadi the historical monastery, Preveli monastery and gorge, Margarites village, well known for its traditional pottery, Lake Kournas, the natural springs of Argiroupolis.
Travel: Direct international flights from major cities or various domestic flights per day from Athens to the airports of Chania (60km) and Heraklion (80km). When travelling from Athens you can get a ferry from Pireus port to both Chania (Souda port - 55km) or Heraklion port (80km).
Car hire is recommended. Taxi transfer or bus service from Rethymnon available.
