Description

Lovingly cared for, updated 4 bdrm, 2 bath sunny 200 yr old farmhouse. 2500 sq ft, not luxury but charming on 370 acres by magnificent barn. Some family antiques, new baths, good mattresses, wood maple floors, wifi. This dedicated guesthouse is clean & uncluttered- the way Grandma (Jessie Baldwin Prindle) kept it. This 200 yr old home is updated yet a traditional New England farmhouse- so a mix of old and new. There's a walk-in pantry, big authentic farmhouse sink, and an ample, covered, back porch facing the fields and barns. We have newer appliances, bathroom fixtures and plumbing. A perfect home for a retreat or a family gathering, with varied library, the house is equipped for cooking and has a dishwasher. An extra twin bed or sleeper couches can be set-up for additional guests (extra fee each). The twin bedroom can be made up into a "king."
There are clear maple floors downstairs with area rugs, and carpet for the upstairs bedroom. This is a dedicated guest house, not someone's home, so you can enjoy the uncluttered, roomy feel. It's a surprisingly big house, with no wasted space or hallways.

You will need to drive to the home, take a cab, or be a marathon runner... The home is situated on a farm just off a dirt road with a circular driveway that is shared with a woodworking shop, and two barns. The location is bucolic with ample parking in the driveway and we allow for up to 4 cars per rental group. Keys will be left in the opened house for guests prior to arrival.

We live 1/4th of a mile up the road and are available to answer questions or assist if a problem arises. We are seasoned landlords and enjoy hosting guests on the farm. We are respectful and kind and just ask that you be respectful and kind in return.
There is a small auxiliary apartment over the Guest House kitchen/dining area, with a separate entrance on the back porch. The young resident couple keeps an eye on the property with us. They are friendly, quiet, and are a nurse and EMT & mechanic by profession. Thus, we ask guests to be reasonable concerning loud noises.

Baldwin Rd. is a beautiful dirt road; a highly sought- out rural area close to the city of Burlington and 15 minutes from Lake Champlain with rolling pastures and meadows, Lewis Creek (river), mountain views, and even a public-access wooded trail just a half mile from the rental property. Historic covered bridges are within a few miles. Most homes, including ours, have virtual privacy with no close neighbors. Hinesburg Village is 3 miles away and is full service with many places to eat and drink, as well as a large grocery store, banks, shops, library, doctors, pharmacy, etc. There is a lake with public beach access in the summer, and miles upon miles of free, public mountain biking, walking, and hiking trails. The airport is 20 minutes away, and downtown Burlington is 30 minutes away. Middlebury is 45 minutes away, and skiing at Bolton Valley is a 30 minute drive. Sugarbush, Mad River Glen,or the Middlebury Snowbowl are a 45 minute drive. Stowe Mountain Resort and Smuggler's Notch Resort are an hour's drive. There's lots of options for walks or hikes in our area.

It is easiest to have your own vehicle in this location, if you plan to come and go with any frequency. Taxi and Uber services are easily available. A taxi ride one-way to the BTV airport will cost about $40 and takes less than 30 minutes. Public bus transportation to Burlington and many other nearby towns and small cities is also available from Hinesburg Village, which is 3 miles from this home:

I am a : Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Christian, Farmer, Professional Musician, Composer, Piano Teacher, Retired Public School Teacher .

Our 370 acre farm was passed down to me, and we now grow soy, firewood, pasture beef cattle, and make maple syrup. One of the restored three, family houses is a guest house with materials and furnishings in keeping with the style of the original period. Although the kitchen, bathrooms, heating and electrical systems are updated, the farmhouse is beautifully imperfect. There are some sloping original hardwood floors, an original old kitchen sink, others details, but full of charm and natural light. I love to have guests who appreciate the rural beauty of Vermont and enjoy the quiet, peaceful setting on the farm. I also love meeting new people, am an informal person, and am interested in different cultures and ethnicity. I have traveled around Europe and Brazil, and as a young woman, lived in London, Paris, and Nice, as well as Tallahassee and LA. I appreciate music, local food, and a sense of community, so as a host, am friendly and accessible. As a guest in my late grandparents 200 yr old house, I ask that you treat it gently, with respect, keeping it reasonably clean, and caring for furnishings as they would their own belongings.
