Description

This two bedroomed, two bathroomed home offers a large open-plan living and dining area, with a fully equipped kitchen. A private patio includes a built-in wood-fired braai (barbecue). Both bedrooms offer either sea or mountain views.

This contemporary home was built to take in views of the mountain, ocean and sky with lots of natural light. Construction on the house was completed in early 2015. The residence comprises three self catering units; the Main House, a Studio Apartment and a Single Room, each with their own private entrances.

This listing is for the "Relaxing Ocean & Mountain View Home", which is our main house. It is a great option for those looking for clean, spacious and comfortable accommodation with lots of natural light.

The front yard features a rock garden with indigenous plants that blend beautifully with the natural landscape, creating a sense-of-place and a unique identity.

Access to the main house entrance is just beyond the rock garden off the street. Those enjoying the comforts of this house have access to a private patio with outdoor dining table and chairs and wood-fired braai (barbecue). Views from the patio look out to the sea. Guests also have access to shared laundry facilities.

Brian and Leonie Croucher, my parents, live on site year round and are available to assist guests as needed. As long time expats and jet-setters they love meeting new people and are always eager to help or offer advice and make suggestions.

This property is perfect for travellers looking for safe and hassle-free accommodation. It is located in Onrus, a picturesque seaside village that is part of the greater Hermanus area in the Overberg District. The house is situated in the gated community of Berghof Estates, only 3 km to the sea, beautiful coastal walks and tidal pools.

The area has a lot to offer lovers of nature, wine and golf. In addition to the popular coastline with it's seasonal whale and shark watching, there is a world-class golf course in nearby Hermanus, the delicious Overberg wine routes and several nature reserves with hiking trails and animal viewing. Adventure sports enthusiasts will not be disappointed either as the area also offers horse riding, sea kayaking, deep sea angling, quad biking, surfing and kite surfing (that we know of).

Onrus is about 5 km from Hermanus, 120 km from Cape Town and 100 km from Cape Town International Airport. It is also a short distance from several must-see destinations along the coast including Pringle Bay, Betty's Bay, Kleinmond, Gaansbaai and Pearly Beach.

Having your own transportation in South Africa is almost a necessity. It is possible to get by without but for your own sanity, hire a car!

DSTV

Premium satellite TV can be arranged in the main house and apartment at a nominal fee of R30 per day. The reason this is an extra fee is because it is not something that we subscribe to all the time and must be requested at the time of booking. Thanks for understanding.

CLEANING FEE

As owners of a private home and not a commercial business we encounter higher maintenance fees and do not have full time staff. For short term stays a modest cleaning fee is required per stay. For longer stays we are able to offer regular cleaning services for an additional fee; the fee varies depending on frequency. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

LINEN AND TOWELS

We have provided clean bed linens and, towels or use in the bathroom only. Though we technically do not provide beach towels, we understand that some of our guests are travelling from far and wide and may not have room for bulky beach towels. Please contact us in advance to discuss your needs so that we have enough time to prepare. We apologise in advance for the inconvenience, but the cost of any damaged, stained or sandy towels and/or linens that have clearly been taken out of the accommodation will be charged for.

DAMAGES

We do not take a security deposit but require guests to be honest and reliable and inform us of any damage / breakages. Items such as crockery and glassware should be replaced. In the unlikely event of damage to the property, inform us and we will assist with repairs/replacement.

LAUNDRY

There are shared laundry facilities on the property. We require a nominal fee to assist us with water and electricity bills. We ask that all guests adhere to our laundry facility rules, which are posted in the laundry room. For the comfort of all our guests we have set hours during which these facilities are available for use. For the sake of conservation we ask that guests try to limit their wash loads if possible. Alternately there are laundromats in the vicinity.

PACK AND SHIP

We are seasoned travellers and know all too well that occasionally we make large purchases and need to get these items shipped safely to our homes. As an experienced globetrotter and former warehouse and shipping executive, Brian Croucher, one of the property's owners, can assist you with the packing and shipping of all of your purchases that are too large to take with you on board your flight or cruise back home.

SMOKING

The inside of our property is a smoke-free environment. We are willing to accommodate smokers as long as they smoke outside and properly extinguish their butts into the garbage or an ashtray that will be provided. Ashtrays cannot be left full of butts outside — the wind will blow them — we ask that smokers kindly dispose of their butts into a secure garbage can provided at the side of the house.

South Africa's natural habitat is prone to wildfires. We are currently experiencing a serious drought, making the dried brush more susceptible to catching fire. Combine a lit cigarette or butt with the occasional strong wind and you may cause a serious blaze. Cigarettes are a major contributor to wildfires in our area so we ask you to please be responsible when smoking.

EXTRA GUESTS

We apologise for the inconvenience but we do not allow extra guests beyond the amount of guests this listing can accommodate. We have other listings for the same property should you wish to book those for friends or family. Please check our other listings for availability.

NO PETS

We are sorry we are not able to allow any pets at this time.

NOISE

We would like to provide all our guests with a stress-free, tranquil environment. We appreciate keeping noise to reasonable limits; being mindful of electronic devices (radios, computers, games, etc.).

A little respect goes a long way. We are honest, open and friendly people. We've travelled the world and come to respect a lot of different cultures. We treat everyone fairly with the same amount of thoughtfulness and expect the same of our guests towards us, our property and our neighbours. Thanks in advance!

My family and I are originally from South Africa and have also lived in Taiwan, Thailand and United States.

While I currently live in Toronto with my Canadian husband, my parents, Brian and Leonie Croucher (see pictures 2 and 3 in profile), currently live in Onrus at the property I have listed with AirBnB.

My family and I have spent a lot of time travelling the world. We even spent a good portion of our lives living out of hotels (not recommended!). As long time expats and jet-setters we love meeting new people and are always eager to help or offer advice and make suggestions.

We don't know about you but nothing makes us feel more at home when we're travelling than a clean, comfortable room with an updated Western bathroom and hospitable hosts — much more than you get from some hotels these days. We believe that's what we have to offer at our home in Onrus and we'd love to share it with you.
