This is an absolutely wonderful country retreat. It is away from the town of Talca, but close enough for shopping. It was quiet, beautiful, calm, charming. We loved our week there. We used it as a base of operations for exploring local wineries as well as towns, markets, and bird watching. Sitting on the porch and watching the local hummingbirds is incomparable. The apartment is well-equiped and comfortable. Barbara is the perfect hostess. When you needed help or attention, she was right there, when you wanted privacy, she was nowhere to be seen. She also provided us with a good bottle of wine, two melons (watermelon and honeydew), grapes, pears and nectarines. The water is provided from her own well and is directly drinkable. We had one challenge in not having a coffee filter for making our coffee in the morning and she immediately provided us with the filter our of her coffee maker. We felt guilty, but also really really needed our morning coffee. We would stay again in a flash.

A truly peaceful enclave in a world of untamed beauty. My wife and I stayed here in August of 2013. We were looking for a place where we could set up shop and search the surrounding area for an urban farm to purchase. The accommodations were ideal for our purpose. Our hostess Barbara was an absolute delight. My wife is Belgian and the two of them had many things to share and the conversations were always lively. One afternoon I was greeted with a couple of books on my favorite topic, Cooking. One was cooking Chilean, and the other Classic Belgian Cuisine. They were both great. I am a Chef du Cuisine and avid Barbecue Pit Master and cooking is my passion. I found the small, well equipped kitchen to be sufficient for my needs and I even competed in an online Culinary Challenge during our brief stay there. During our quest to explore the natural wonders and countryside of Chile we stayed in numerous Hotels, B&B's and rental properties. The Kingsize bed here was actually "Kingsize" it was by far the most comfortable bed during our stay. Upon arrival we were greeted by Barbara and were please to find a bottle delicious Chilean wine awaiting us in the kitchen. Although we found that Chile was not a viable option for us to retire and live year round, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our time spent in Talca and we owe it all to our gracious hostess who gave us great tips on dinning, shopping and site seeing venues throughout the region. We highly recommend you consider staying here, if the opportunity arises. Gerald Thompson & Thalia too!

Stayed here for close to a month while working and checking out the 7th Region of Chile, which is not a normal tourist destination, but which has many interesting and varied attractions nonetheless. The accommodation is quite peaceful, a wonderfully restored casa patronal on a hillside overlooking a vineyard and the lights of Talca. The guest quarters consist of a nice one bedroom apartment with office/living room and a small kitchen. There is also a small cabin on the property which is available from time-to-time. Lounging on the covered porch with a glass of an excellent local wine was entirely pleasant, and was a special treat whenever a bright giant moon rose over the Andes and lit up the vineyard. You can get to this place and around town without a car, walking or using the local collectivos, but I’d recommend getting a car as it is located a ways out of town. If you’ve got a car, this would be a less costly and far more pleasant alternative to the Casino or other hotels in Talca. Parking under cover is provided, which is very nice with the hot summer sun in these parts. Staying here, you’ll feel almost like a local. One of the neighbors can fix you up with fresh raw milk from her cows, if you’re so inclined, and each Sunday at noon Sra. Julia down the road has fresh empanadas from her horno (wood fired clay oven) that are quite wonderful. Proprietress Sra. Barbara herself is well travelled, quite personable and exceedingly helpful about all things Talca. I think you’ll find her as enjoyable to talk with as I did. My only complaint about this place was that my USB internet stick did not work as well as I would have liked because of the thick walls of the casa, but Barbara is working on getting high speed internet installed so this should not be a problem in the future. TIP: Car rentals outside of Santiago are less costly, so think about taking one of the (very nice) buses, or the train, out of the city and renting locally. Booking my rental with Europcar online and taking the train to and from Talca saved me more than $200 for the month.
